A Message from our Pastor Dear People of St. Patrick Parish, Today we hear, in the Gospel of Mark, the words, This is my beloved Son. Listen to him. Here at Mass, we hear the readings from the New Testament of the Bible, let us listen, reflect and commit to follow what Jesus asks us to do in our daily lives. In the First Reading, Abraham had to trust God and say yes to God even though it hurt him to think he might have to sacrifice his beloved son. As we prepare for Good Friday, we might reflect upon how God, the Father had to sacrifice his son Jesus upon the cross to save all people who would accept the great commandment to love God and our neighbor. In the Second Reading from Romans today, we are reminded that it is Christ Jesus who died, or rather, was raised, who also is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us. This is our Catholic faith, this is what we believe and what we strive to follow in our daily lives. During this time of Lent, let us take to heart all these scriptural passages and grow in our love for God and all our brothers and sisters around the world. Reminders to help us: Go to Mass, go to confession, go to Stations of the Cross, give up meat on Friday, use the Rice Bowls, fast if of the age to fast, be nicer, pray more and try to forgive when we need to forgive. We are also saying one Our Father at 12:30pm each day of Lent, no matter where we are. God Bless, Larry Young Pastor

News ~ Information ~ events 60 Seconds a day, That s all it takes! One Minute Lenten Challenge Lent is a time of prayer, fasting, almsgiving, and penance. This year, St. Patrick Church invites all parishioners, young and old, to participate in a Lenten Challenge that will only take one minute. Parishioners will STOP each day at 12:30pm during the days of Lent and pray the Our Father. It is a simple challenge to help us spend ONE minute with our Lord. Lenten Practices Fasting weakens our tendency to violence; it disarms us and becomes an important opportunity for growth it allows us to experience what the destitute and the starving have to endure. On the other hand, it expresses our spiritual hunger and thirst for life in God (Pope Francis, Message for Lent, 2018) The following regulations regarding fasting and abstinence are observed in the United States: Catholics, ages 14 and over are to abstain from meat on all Fridays of Lent and Good Friday. Individuals between 18 and 59 are also obliged to fast, eat one full meal on and Good Friday. Eating two smaller meals is permitted if necessary to maintain strength, but eating between meals should be avoided. These obligations, however, do not apply to those whose health or ability to work would be seriously affected. Easter Altar Flower Envelopes are now available in the entry of the church for Easter Flowers. Donations may be made in remembrance of any occasion such as a memorial, birthday, anniversary, new baby, etc. You can also donate just to assist with the cost of the flowers. THE OBEDIENCE OF ABRAHAM AND JESUS God tested Abraham by asking not for an ordinar sacrifice, which would have been a par ial bur ing with the meat divided bet een God and the people and eaten by those who sacrificed, but for a holocaust, a total bur ing of the sacrificial animal. This t e of sacrifice consecrated the entire offering to God alone. This is what God was asking of Abraham in offering his only son, Isaac. When Abraham demonst ated his obedience, that was enough. This stor om today s script res foretells the completion of the blood sacrifices of the old covenant in the new covenant: the blood of God s own Son, offered to us on the cross and in the Eucharist. Abraham s obedience foreshadows the obedience of Jesus to God s promise of salvation. The obedience of Abraham is rewarded in the bir h to him, through Isaac, of many nations. The obedience of Jesus is rewarded in the salvation of all people for all time. Copy ight J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
