The Albanac A MONTHLY PUBLICATION OF ST. ALBAN S EPISCOPAL CHURCH 5430 Warriors Trail, Bovina, Mississippi www.stalbansbovina.org January 2013 Christmas Luncheon and Ornament Exchange The month of December was a busy one as church members and clergy ushered in the seasons of Advent and Christmas. The first joyous celebration was held December 8 as the ECW gathered at Main Street Café for the annual Christmas Luncheon and Ornament Exchange. A wonderful time was had by all. Pictured back row left to right: Ann Jones, Margie Scott, Becky Drake, Sherry Horan, Mickey Barlow, Ann Tompkins, Susan Price, Sharon Hanks, Betsy Selby, Josie Williams, Mary Ann Wright and Cassandra Price. Second row seated: Mary Carleton, Billie Abraham, Ruth Green, Betty Biedenharn, Judy Morrissey and Eleanor Price. Front row: Beth Guynes, Kerri Williams, Colby Hopkins and Lisa Langford.

The Albanac 2 The Christmas Party and Living Nativity On Saturday, December 15, church members gathered in the Parish Hall to revive the traditional Christmas Party, a highly anticipated event in past years. Cookies were baked as the children enjoyed various activities. Rodney Ham, posing as Santa Claus, presented Reverend Billie Abraham and Reverend Deacon Josie Williams with Christmas presents. Following the party, those who were participating in the Living Nativity assumed their positions on the grounds and watched as approximately 40 cars drove by to view the manger scene.

The Albanac 4 Billie s Corner As we approach a new year together as a church family, I am reflecting on the past year. I am reviewing my 2012 date book that is overflowing with appointments, activities and events that involve the community of St. Alban s and the community of St. Mary s. Your names fill in spaces provided for appointments. The margins around each page are scribbled with your names and reminders of things to-do. We did a lot last year and we did it together. The church buildings that house our communities are beautiful structures. St. Alban s Church looks like a tiny gothic church in an English village and St. Mary s Church has been described as an ornament to the diocese. The churches provide us with a place to worship God and a place to call our home. BUT, we are the church! The church is the living body of Christ. Our worship is one aspect of our life together. Our outreach and inreach ministries are who we are our care and concern for each other and for those we encounter are who we are. We are our hospitality and our evangelism. We are the flesh and bones of our faith in God we are disciples of Jesus Christ in the world today. I am reminded of a song that the Jubilee Singers have performed at St. Alban s and St. Mary s. I wish I could make the words in this letter come alive with the power of the voices of the Jubilee Singers, the best I can do is share the words. I get tears in my eyes and goose-bumps up and down my body every time I hear them sing out:

The Albanac 5 I need you and you need me. We are all a part of God s body. Stand with me, be with me. We are all a part of God s body. It is his will, that every need be supplied. You are important to me, I need you to survive. I pray for you, you pray for me. I love you, I need you to survive. We need each other to survive. God created us to live in relationship with God and with each other. May the coming year be the continuation of growth in love and respect for God and for each other. May our life together make the lyrics of the song come to life. In peace Billie+ A Christmas Baptism William Douglas Upchurch, son of Keith and Jill Upchurch was baptized by the Very Reverend Billie Abraham on December 23.

The Albanac 6 New Stained Glass Window Dodie Pritchard (left) and Barbara Ramsay stand before the new stained glass window donated by Barbara in memory of her husband, Dr. Charles H. Ramsay and daughter, Bebe Ramsay. The dedication of the window will take place on Mother s Day, May 12, 2013.

The Albanac 7 Josie s Journal From A Diaconal Lens Starting the first week of Advent and ending week four of Advent, parishioners were showered with cards. One hundred and sixty-five cards were mailed to fifteen recipients. I am speechless (a first), by your eagerness to participate in this card ministry. I offer many thanks to my St. Alban s family for your participation. Gift card donations were made to families at the Warren County Youth Court. Thank you cards received from recipients are posted on the bulletin board. Peace Josie+
