Please mark your calendars and we will have more details about where to bring your favorite dessert! There will be sign-up sheets at the entrances. Contact Al or Dorcella Sunday for more information at 997-7937. Little Lamb News The school continues to run well this summer. We have had three children leave since their families are moving from Fredericksburg and two children move from the infant room to the toddler room. In addition our Family Service Worker resigned due to her long commute from Llano, and a teacher resigned who has been on sick leave since April. All of these moves involve a lot of staff shuffling and paper work as we search and interview for new employees. We had an unannounced health inspection during the month and received a 100 score! We are all very proud of our cook Sandra. We also received a $500 special gift to our school from a community resident in recognition of a Little Lambs Advisory Board member! Council Highlights In addition to the August 14 BBQ, Council also... 1) Agreed to support the Gillespie County First Responders Barbeque (see article on left hand side of this page). 2) Decided to further pursue a Child Protection Policy for all children and youth and for those who work with them. 3) Reviewed Capital Improvement needs and Vacation Bible School (Bible Day Camp). Special The Good Samaritan Center A Healing Place The Good Samaritan Center (GSC), is a charitable clinic meeting critical health needs for Gillespie County and some of our surrounding area through community partnerships. Their mission is to provide quality, coordinated, and affordable health care, as well as health and wellness education and information to their patients in a Christ-centered, safe environment. A healthy population is a vital element in a dynamic community like ours. Their services help keep employees at work and students in school. Improving the quality of life for their patients through disease prevention and health promotion is why they are here. Pastoral Act Jessie Mitchell passed away on June 27, 2016 at the age of 97. Her funeral service was held in Zion Lutheran Church on July 2, 2016 with Pastor Ensrude officiating. Internment was held at Greenwood Cemetery. Page 3
Join the Women of Zion for an The Joy of Poetry, released in April by T.S. Poetry Press, is Megan Willome s story of losing her mom to cancer and finding poetry. It is a memoir with a hearty sprinkling of poems and a story about a daughter s maturing relationship with her mother. Megan s book was listed on Christianity Today s website as one of the 10 books you should read this summer! While she was growing up in Austin, Megan often came to Fredericksburg with her mother to poke around Main Street and have lunch at the Peach Tree. In 2005, Megan and her husband, John, moved to Fredericksburg and traded their romantic getaway destination for a whole new life in the Texas Hill Country. Megan has an uncanny ability to entice even the biggest poetry doubter (or poetry hater) to take a few minutes with a few words. "Why poetry? Megan writes. "You might as well ask, why chocolate?" Join us in Fellowship Hall August 4 at 6:30pm for dessert (some of which will be chocolate) and a chance to hear Megan s story. If you don't already know her, we promise you will enjoy getting to know her. She will sign books and bring some along. RSVP appreciated but not necessary to 997-2195. Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15 Page 4
Thank You Notes Page 5 We had a GREAT Bible Day Camp, and thanks to all who chose to help. We could not have done it without you! We had 25 registered campers, and 3 youth helpers along with the four counselors. Special thanks to the Fellowship Committee for supplying the lunches, and to all who brought snacks. And thanks to all who helped with the Thursday night dinner. It was all a great success! Thanks to all who helped with the parade (see picture). All the campers had fun in the parade as well as great fun and learning the rest of the week. Thank you so much for allowing us the opportunity to share Gods word with your children.
