THE DECEASED Richard Thompson, Marcella Ibarra, James Alexander Mitchell (son of Joyce Mitchell), Adele Linsao and Patrick Leach.

From the Pastor & Liturgy FROM THE PASTOR EASTER THANKS I want to take a moment to thank all of those who assisted in preparing for and praying during our Holy Week liturgies. Hours of rehearsal and preparation went into making our liturgies so meaningful and rich. Several people both parishioners and visitors shared with me how much they enjoyed the Holy Week liturgies at Sacred Heart. Our Worship Commission and Liturgical Ministers especially did great work in helping our liturgies to go so well. I also want to thank all of those who extended Easter greetings (in a variety of forms: meals, cards, gifts, etc.) to me; God reward your kindness. EVANGELIZING DURING THE EASTER SEA- SON Pope Francis reminds us that we evangelize others because we are swept up in the joy of knowing the Risen Lord. I invite you during these Easter days to reflect on how you could bring joy into the lives of others through service or added attention. Find a way in your classroom, your home, or your workplace where you could make thing a little brighter. TIME FOR DISCERNMENT As we move into Spring, it is time for us to move into discernment for new members for our parish councils and commissions. Our Pastoral and Finance Councils and Stewardship, Worship, and School Commissions are all looking for new members as we continue the rotation process for our parish leaders. This Spring we will also initiate a new Social Concerns Commission with 6 parishioners needed to serve in this important service. Please take some time to pray for our parishioners to step forward to share their time and talent as a member of one of our councils or commissions; perhaps consider whether you are being called to serve yourself. There will be more details soon about this year s discernment process. Let us continue to work together to build up the Kingdom of God here at Sacred Heart. CATHOLIC MEN S CONFERENCE The 4th annual Catholic Men s Conference will take place on Saturday, April 23, 8 AM to 4:30 PM, at Mary, Queen of Peace Parish in Sammamish. This year s theme is: Manhood in the Year of Mercy. Men of all ages and ethnic backgrounds are invited to participate in order to build up their families through prayer and sacrificial action. Presenters include: Archbishop Sartain, Father Kevin Duggan, Father Bill Watson, SJ, and Tom Curran. Go to seattlemensconference.org for more information and for registration. SOLEMNITY OF THE ANNUNCIATION OF THE LORD Because March 25 fell on Good Friday, the solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord is transferred to April 4 (the first available date after the Easter Octave. Through the angel Gabriel, the Spirit of God comes to Mary in the most unfeasible way, asking the impossible. As a young woman engaged to be married, being found pregnant would have meant her death in the culture of her time. She risks hurting Joseph, bringing shame on their families, and setting herself up for execution, because she is sure of one thing: God calls her to be mother to the Son of God. Mary is special because her faith is stronger than her fear. She does not see the road ahead but knows that God wills for her to journey it nonetheless. Trusting in God above all, she consents her will, becoming the first and most important vessel of bringing Christ s present into the world. (2016 Sourcebook for Sundays, Seasons, and Weekdays, 171) We will celebrate the Annunciation at the 9 AM Mass on Monday morning. MASS ON FRIDAY Our parish school students and staff will participate in the 8:45 AM Mass on Friday. Some of the students will assist as liturgical ministers for the Mass. INITIATION SACRAMENTS DURING THE EASTER SEASON As we continue the Fifty Days of Easter, we will celebrate initiation sacraments with several parishioners. This weekend at the Saturday Vigil Mass, we celebrate baptism for several infants. At the weekend Masses on April 16-17 and 23-24, we will celebrate First Communion with over 50 young parishioners; there will be a few additional young parishioners receiving First Communion at additional Masses this spring. On Monday, April 25, Archbishop Sartain will be at Sacred Heart to celebrate confirmation with almost 30 parish teenagers and one young adult. The Easter season is a wonderful time for us to be grateful for our parishioners who are beginning or continuing their path to full initiation in the Church. Please pray for all of these candidates for initiation sacraments and plan on celebrating one or more of these Masses. SACRAMENT OF PENANCE AND RECONCILIATION Individual confessions are available at Sacred Heart on Wednesday morning, 8:00-8:45, and on Saturday afternoon, 3-4:30. Confessions take place in the Reconciliation Chapel in the narthex (near the Liturgical Ministers Room). You can also contact Father Steve for an appointment outside of the regularly scheduled times.
