Wright YL Eastern Shore Staff Mark and Terri Wilson Andy Miller Young Life Eastern Shore is part of a world-class organization for adolescents. Our staff and volunteers enter the world of kids, focusing on what matters to them: fun, adventure, friendship, and a sense of significance. In doing so, we earn the privilege of talking to them about something that we think matters most of all: the truth about God and His love for us.

About Young Life Out There In the World of Kids Young Life doesn t start with a program. It starts with adults concerned enough about kids to go to them, on their turf and in their culture, building bridges of authentic friendship. These relationships don t happen overnight they take time, patience, trust and consistency. So Young Life leaders log many hours with kids around the world where they are, as they are. Leaders faithfully attend football practices in the Minneapolis suburbs, mingle with teenagers at a mall in Stockholm and play pick-up soccer with former child-soldiers in Liberia. We listen to their stories and learn what s important to them because we genuinely care about their joys, triumphs, heartaches and setbacks. We believe in the power of presence. Kids lives are dramatically impacted when caring adults come alongside them, sharing God s love with them. Because their leader believes in them, they begin to see that their lives have great worth, meaning and purpose. This is the first step of a lifelong journey; the choices they make today, based upon God s love for them, will impact future decisions careers chosen, marriages formed and families raised. All ripples from the time when a Young Life leader reached out and entered their world. Who is Young Life for? Everyone is welcome in Young Life! Our programs are custom made for kids throughout their adolescent years. Young Life is the name of our organization and is also the term we use for our program with high school students. We call our middle school program WyldLife. The initiative for college and university students is called Young Life College. Young Life s multicultural ministry, focused on kids in diverse cultural communities and those in economically-depressed areas, is arguably the largest of its kind in the United States. We refer to our ministry to kids with disabilities as Capernaum and to our work with teen moms as YoungLives. In a partnership with Military Community Youth Ministries, Young Life reaches military teens through a program called Club Beyond. The Small Towns initiative brings Young Life to communities of fewer than 25,000 people.

A Time-Tested Approach Young Life began with a few simple ideas about sharing the truth of God s love with adolescents. Those simple ideas have become timetested methods for reaching out to middle school, high school and college students in friendship and hope. Caring for Kids Contact Work Because kids don t care how much you know till they know how much you care, Young Life leaders show they care by going where kids are, meeting them as they are, believing in who they can be. Within Young Life we call the persistent going out into the world of kids contact work. But kids just call it friendship. A Party with a Purpose Club What is it about Young Life club that makes it the best night of the week for thousands of kids every week? We like to think of it as a party with a purpose. It s controlled chaos that s almost impossible to describe, but kids know it when they see it. And before the party ends, we share a simple message about God s love for them. After all, that s what the celebration is all about. The Best Week of Their Life Camp Kids consistently tell us that Young Life camp is the best week of their life. That s a rousing (and unsolicited) endorsement! But how else would you describe a week where deep relationships are forged in the midst of mind-boggling fun and where you experience and listen to what we believe is the greatest love story ever told? A Time to Question, Learn and Grow Campaigners Campaigners is a weekly gathering for kids who wish to learn more or grow in their faith through study, service and leadership. We invite kids to actively follow Jesus Christ and we re with them for the long haul to help them take those steps of faith with unconditional love. Along the way, we encourage kids to celebrate their faith through participation in a local congregation. Adults Who Care Committee Young Life is making a difference in the lives of kids around the world because we are supported by adults who care about kids in their community. For every talented Young Life staff person there is a

team of dedicated leaders who works directly with kids. In each community, the local committee, comprised of parents, Young Life alumni and civic leaders, provides a foundation of financial, administrative and moral support for the local Young Life team. Making An Impact Our Vision Every adolescent on the Eastern Shore will have the opportunity to meet Jesus Christ and follow Him. Our Mission Introducing adolescents to Jesus Christ and helping them grow in their faith. We accomplish our mission by Praying for young people. Going where kids are. Building personal relationships with them. Winning the right to be heard. Providing experiences that are fun, adventurous and life-changing. Sharing our lives and the Good News of Jesus Christ with adolescents. Inviting them to personally respond to this Good News. Loving them regardless of their response. Nurturing kids so they might grow in their love for Christ and the knowledge of God s Word and become people who can share their faith with others. Helping young people develop the skills, assets and attitudes to reach their full God-given potential. Encouraging kids to live connected to the Body of Christ by being an active member of a local congregation. Working with a team of like-minded individuals volunteer leaders, committee members, donors and staff. Our Values Living according to and communicating the whole Gospel of Jesus Christ. Carrying out our mission under the authority of Scripture and relying on the Holy Spirit to empower our ministry. Encouraging the welfare and spiritual health of those who do this ministry, that they may minister out of a consistent and growing relationship with Christ and His followers. Researching and developing innovative approaches to reaching uncommitted, disinterested kids around the world. Reaching adolescents of all social, cultural, economic and ethnic backgrounds throughout the world. Working with followers of Christ from a variety of traditions and local churches around the world. Welcoming all those whom God calls to our mission men and women of all races, staff and volunteers who are linked to a common purpose of introducing adolescents to Jesus Christ. Observing the highest standards of stewardship of all the resources placed in our trust.

Parents and Community Even though Young Life is especially for kids, parents and other adults in the community are important to Young Life. Adults can support Young Life in a variety of ways by becoming a volunteer leader or committee member, by attending a Young Life fund-raising event, by hosting Young Life or by simply telling others in the community about Young Life and its commitment to kids. Keeping Kids Safe An important part of our commitment to kids is how we keep kids safe. Our staff and volunteer leaders know they are responsible for modeling lives of hope and integrity. Young Life's Human Resources department has developed mission wide policies and procedures to ensure that kids are protected when they are with Young Life staff and/or leaders as well as when kids are part of Young Life sponsored activities. Young Life is active locally Our ministry is currently reaching students at: Bayside Academy Daphne Middle School Daphne High School Fairhope Middle School Fairhope High School Bayside Spanish Fort High School Christ the King Our Young Life weekly meeting is called Club. Club meets on Monday nights in the homes of our kids involved. We have club for kids from Daphne/Spanish Fort, and a club for kids from Bayside/Fairhope. Our WyldLife club meets on every other Tuesday night, in different homes as well. There is one WyldLife club for the whole Eastern Shore. Campaigners, is the Young Life version of a Bible study. It is simply a place for kids and their leaders to open up the Scriptures and discuss life together. Campaigners is for kids who want to go deeper than the sometimes chaos of Monday nights. Our staff and leaders are out in the community building relationships with kids. We call this contact work. We believe that we need to earn the right to share the Gospel with kids, and so we do this by building lifelong friendships with kids, and these friendships remain regardless of their response to the Gospel.

We take kids from the Eastern Shore to camp each summer. Young Life camp is not your typical summer camp. It is more like a week at a high adventure resort. The action is high and so is the energy. There is enormous adventure and challenge. And it would not be Young Life if there were not laughter and fun. Most importantly, kids are given a clear presentation of the person of Jesus Christ and an invitation to come to know him personally. Lives are changed at Young Life camp each summer, and our leaders go to camp with our kids and come home with them to walk through life together. WHERE ARE WE GOING? We are going deeper! We are grateful for the incredible growth that Young Life has experienced in this community and we have a strong desire and passion to continue that growth and deepen relationships in our local community. We long to have a dynamic presence on every middle school and high school on the Eastern Shore, and for every kid in all of our school to have the opportunity to come to know Jesus in a personal way. Please join us in praying for more and more Young Life leaders to be available to pursue kids with God s love! CONTACT: Young Life Eastern Shore P.O. Eastern Shore At Windy Gap I feel like I made many new and long lasting friendships with people I already knew and many others I would like to visit with again. I feel so much closer to God. I really enjoyed cabin time, I feel like it changed my perspective on how I looked at everyone in my cabin. I also enjoyed the hikes we took, I got to see and experience the creations of God and all the beautiful things in nature we take for granted. I loved singing and having a great time with all my new and old friends. Windy Gap is a time I will never forget and if given the opportunity I would go back without thinking twice.
