Gabelman Associate pastortj@fumcbrenham.org Dear Friends, What a wonderful Easter celebration we had! Great music at all of our worship services, lots of people raising their voices in praise of God s amazing love, Easter eggs, holy communion, and time with family. Someone asked me recently what it means to be an Easter person, derived, I m sure, from the phrase, Easter People. The meaning is simple, actually. To live as Easter People is to live in the faith that Jesus Christ rose from the dead and holds the keys of hell and death. Easter People live in a continual state of joy and hope in the promise that one day Jesus will return and the world will be reconciled to God once and for all. So live as Easter People!! One of the things I ve wanted to do for years is the Painted Church Tour and finally it s going to happen. But I don t want to go on the tour all by myself so I ve made it into a church outing. On Thursday, April 26 th, please join me in seeing some of the most beautiful churches in Texas. The Painted Churches are located in the communities of Dubina, High Hill, Praha, and Ammannsville. They appear unassuming as you approach them, but as you enter the front doors prepare to have your breath taken away by the incredible beauty found inside. We ll leave the back church parking lot at 8:30 a.m., travel to Schulenburg in the large church van, pick up our tour guide at and begin our tour. We ll stop for lunch at Oakridge Smokehouse, and return to the church by 4:30 p.m. We have reservations for 14 persons and the cost of the trip (including lunch buffet) will be $25.00. Call the church office to reserve your place. The church leadership has been diligently looking for ways to help our congregation come together for fellowship. Time and time again I hear that people who worship in one service don t know anyone from either of the other two services, etc. One of the benefits of the Christmas Extravaganza was that the praise team from Celebration and the chancel choir from the traditional services and several of the instrumentalists from all the services came together for practices. After spending time together they know each other, recognize each other at the store, and feel a nice connection to each other. We want that kind of opportunity for all of us. You ll have the opportunity to meet, eat, play, and spend time with everyone from the church at our Church Picnic on Saturday, May 19 th, at Fireman s Park. You may not know it but we have a cook team made up of dads from the Celebration service and they re going to cook brisket for us! Everyone is invited to bring a covered dish (Last Name A-L bring a side dish; M-Z bring a dessert), and a lawn chair. All the eating utensils, paper goods, iced tea/lemonade, and condiments will be provided by the church. There will be a bounce house for the kiddos, as well as lawn games, the playgrounds and the merry-go-round ($1 and you ride all day.) We can sit and visit, plus we ve invited live musicians to entertain us with music everyone will enjoy! We ll meet at the big pavilion, 10:30 a.m. whenever. Let s get together for Christian fellowship and invite a neighbor or friends because you don t have to be a church member to enjoy the church picnic. Grace & Peace, Pastor Bobbie
