John 20:24-31 30 A.D. at Garden Tomb One Week Later Sunday 24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. 26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. 27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. 28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. 29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. 30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: 31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. 10 3

Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. 1. Thomas was probably not with the other disciples because he did not believe that Jesus would rise from the dead. 2. It is important for us to be with other believers so we can learn and grow together. 3. When Thomas saw Jesus he said my Lord and my God. 4. We need to believe the record that God has written about Jesus and His death and His resurrection. 8 The infallible proof of Christ's resurrection was his showing himself alive. In these verses, we have an account of his first appearance to the college of the disciples, on the day on which he rose. He had sent them the tidings of his resurrection by trusty and credible messengers; but to show his love to them, and confirm their faith in him, he came himself, and gave them all the assurances they could desire of the truth of it, that they might not have it by hearsay only, and at second hand, but might themselves be eye-witnesses of his being alive, because they must attest it to the world, and build the church upon that testimony. Matthew Henry s Commentary We too must share these truths! 5
Doubting Thomas Everyone had seen Jesus die on that cross. So imagine their great joy when Jesus came to the disciples after he had risen from the dead. Now Thomas, one of the disciples was not with them when Jesus had come. So, excitedly, the others told him "We have seen the Lord!". But Thomas couldn't quite believe it. He said that unless he saw the nail marks in his hands and could put his fingers where they were or put his hand into Jesus' side, he just wasn't going to believe it. Well, about a week later all the disciples were in the house, this time Thomas being with him. And even though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them. Jesus told Thomas to feel his hands and feel his side. He told Thomas to stop doubting and to believe! Of course then, Thomas believed it was him! Then Jesus said this: "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." Are you a 'Doubting Thomas'? Do you always have to see something before you believe it? Do you know what Jesus is talking about here? He is talking about FAITH. Is there something that you have been praying about for awhile now? Don't give up! Just because you don't see anything--- Don't Doubt! God is working in His own way, in His own timing. Have faith and don't doubt because He loves you and is doing what is best for you. Don't doubt His love for you. Don't doubt because you can't see changes right now---god is working. Have faith and Don't Doubt! 6 7
