God s for Creating Families

God s Purpose for Creating Families August 19, 2018 10:45 a.m. This summer we are introducing two new ways for families to be more involved during worship: The pray ground and worship boxes. Jesus said, Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me Mark 9:37 Gathering Music Call to Worship Pastor: Pastor: Pastor: Pastor: Rich Harney Lord, for this day We give you thanks. Lord, for the moments when we encountered grace and beauty We give you thanks. Lord, for conversations that have made an impact on our lives We give you thanks. Lord, for the times when we have seen you at work We give you thanks. *Opening Hymn vss 1-3 pg 9 in bulletin Earth and All Stars! *Time of Honesty Pastor: Leader: Leader: Leader: In the silence we hold before God the hurts of the past day Lord, we remember the times when we have not shown love through our thoughts, words and actions We seek forgiveness. Lord, we remember the times when we have been hurt by the words and actions of others Help us to forgive. Lord, we remember the times when we have been distracted from seeking after you Lord, make yourself known to us, help us to see you in the midst of the noise and clamor of this world. 2

Pastor: In the silence we hold before God today and tomorrow and the opportunities it bears remembering the power of your promise of love, forgiveness, and new beginnings. Amen. *Song of New Life in Christ Change My Heart O God *Prayer of the Day Welcome/Life in Community/Commissioning of Joel Timmons and Thank you to Leah Jarvis (Please sign and pass the attendance book at this time.) Song of Response vss 1-2 pg 10 in bulletin Children of the Heavenly Father Backpack Blessing Change my heart, O God; make it ever true. Change my heart, O God; may I be like you. You are the potter; I am the clay. Mold me and make me; this is what I pray. Text: Eddie Espinosa, b. 1953 Text 1982 Mercy/Vineyard Publishing, admin. Song of Response vss 3-4 pg 10 in bulletin Children of the Heavenly Father Scripture Reading I Corinthians 13:4-13 (NRSV) Change my heart, O God; make it ever true. Change my heart, O God; may I be like you. Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. *Please stand as you are able. 3

Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love. Leader: The Word of the Lord Thanks be to God. Holy Gospel...John 14:8-14 Philip said to him, Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied. Jesus said to him, Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, Show us the Father? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if you do not, then believe me because of the works themselves. Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it. Pastor: The Gospel of the Lord Thanks be to God. Message Pr. Candice Combs 4

*Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. *Prayers of the Community *Sharing of the Peace Thank Offering/Offertory Rich Harney Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. (Matthew 25:40) * These two video montages are a thank offering from our students and their families in gratitude for the support of our church family. *Offertory Song of Response Give thanks with a grateful heart Give thanks to the holy one Give thanks because he's given Jesus Christ, his son(x2) Give Thanks And now let the weak say I am strong Let the poor say I am rich Because of what the Lord has done, for us (x2) Give Thanks *Offering Prayer *Please stand as you are able. 6

*Words of Institution *Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. Holy Communion Invitation and Distribution As we celebrate this sacrament, all are invited to the Lord s Table. God is really present - in bread and wine - forgiving sins and promising new life. We celebrate with communion by intinction. Please come forward, receive a bread wafer, dip it into the wine or grape juice and consume both at the same time. There is also a communion station with gluten-free rice wafers and grape juice. Communion Music Rich Harney Communion Blessing *Benediction *Song of Sending vss 4-5 pg 9 in bulletin Earth and All Stars! *Sending Leader: As members of God s family, the body of Christ, let us go into our homes, schools, work places to love and serve the Lord. Thanks be to God and we will! *Postlude Rich Harney 7
