When we read the scriptures, then, we are literally having a personal encounter with Jesus. That's why spending time with the Word of God is such a wonderful way to pray. Today's Gospel, the Passion of Christ according to St. Matthew, encourages us to spend time with our Lord in his most difficult moments. As we read and pray, we can imagine Jesus sitting beside us. We can speak to him as our wise and treasured friend. Jesus is fascinated by our lives and loves to hear us joining our own experiences to his. GOOD FRIDAY is a day of fast and abstinence.
