THE PROPHETS AND WRITINGS BLESSING AND BETRAYAL Lesson 1: Crossing the Jordan Treasure Story: Joshua 1:1-3:17 Treasure Point: God provided for Israel through the leadership of Joshua and the faith of Rahab. God provides us with Jesus to save us from our sin. Lesson 2: Jericho s Walls Come Down Treasure Story: Joshua 6:1-27 Treasure Point: God shows His faithfulness to the Israelites by giving them the city of Jericho. God shows His faithfulness to us by giving us His Son Jesus. Lesson 3: The Sin of Achan Treasure Story: Joshua 7:1-8:35 Treasure Point: Achan chose to follow his own way instead of God s way and was met with destruction. However, God remained faithful to Israel, as He remains faithful to all who trust in His Son. Lesson 4: The Land Conquered and Divided Treasure Story: Joshua 9:1-27; 23:1-24:33 Treasure Point: The Israelites failed to consult God and were deceived by the Gibeonites. We should serve God and seek His wisdom so that we will not be deceived and disobey the Lord. Lesson 5: The Judges of Israel Treasure Story: Joshua 1:1-36, 6:1-8:35 Treasure Point: The Israelites continue to fall into sin as they fail to obey God, but God sends them judges to rescue them. Through Christ, we can obey God and live our lives for Him. Lesson 6: Life Without God as King Treasure Story: Judges 16:1-18:31 Treasure Point: When Israel rejects God s authority, chaos reigns. It is only by the power of Christ in us that we are able to live our lives for Him. Lesson 7: Hannah and Her Son Samuel Treasure Story: 1 Samuel 1:1-3:21 Treasure Point: God answered Hannah s prayer with a son named Samuel. God raised him up to lead Israel. God fulfilled His promise to us when He raised up Jesus to be our Savior. Lesson 8: Give Us a King Treasure Story: 1 Samuel 8:1-10:27 Treasure Point: The Israelites rejected God as their king because they wanted to be like other nations. God wants us to worship Him alone so that all nations can see that He is the one true king. Lesson 9: The Disobedient King Treasure Story: 1 Samuel 13:1-23, 15:1-35 Treasure Point: Saul rejected God s Word, and God rejected him as king. We also have a choice of accepting Jesus as the one true king or rejecting Him and facing eternal separation from God. Lesson 10: The Rise of David Treasure Story: 1 Samuel 16:1-17:58 Treasure Point: David was chosen by God to be the next king of Israel. David trusted God to defeat a giant named Goliath. We need to repent and trust Jesus to overcome our greatest enemy, which is sin.

Lesson 11: God s Covenant with David Treasure Story: 2 Samuel 7:1-29 Treasure Point: David sought to build a house of worship for the Lord. Instead, God promised to build the house of David s family and establish his throne forever through the person of Jesus Christ. Lesson 12: The Fall of David Treasure Story: 2 Samuel 11:1-12:31 Treasure Point: David could not hide his sin from God. God forgave David, but his sin had consequences. Lesson 13: From Joshua to David Treasure Story: 2 Samuel 22:47-51 Treasure Point: God showed Himself faithful to the Israelites as He led them into the Promised Land and provided them with rulers. God also shows Himself faithful to us. KINGS AND PROPHETS Lesson 1: A Wise King Treasure Story: 1 Kings 3:1-15 Treasure Point: God is the source and the giver of true wisdom. Lesson 2: Solomon Builds the Temple Treasure Story: 1 Kings 6:11-13, 8:12-9:9 Treasure Point: Though Solomon built a temple for the Lord, only Jesus the promised Offspring can provide a permanent dwelling place for us with God. Lesson 3: The Divided Kingdom Treasure Story: 1 Kings 12:1-33 Treasure Point: Though Solomon had wisdom, wealth, fame, good deeds, and power, he did not follow after God completely. Wealth and wisdom are meaningless apart from the saving and heartchanging love of Jesus. Lesson 4: A Vision, a Vocation, and a Virgin Birth Treasure Story: Isaiah 6:1-13; 7:10-14 Treasure Point: Our sin may cause us to despair, but we have hope because God has provided us forgiveness through His Son Jesus. Lesson 5: The Suffering Servant Treasure Story: Isaiah 52:13-53:12 Treasure Point: Isaiah looked ahead to the day when Jesus would come to provide a way for His people to be set free from slavery to sin. Lesson 6: Broken Cisterns Treasure Story: Jeremiah 10:1-16 Treasure Point: God alone deserves our devotion and worship. Lesson 7: A New Heart and a New Spirit Treasure Story: Ezekiel 36:16-32 Treasure Point: Ezekiel prophesied of a day when God would replace His people s sinful hearts with hearts that have been purified by the blood of Jesus. Lesson 8: Pouring Out of the Spirit Treasure Story: Hosea 1:1-3:5 Treasure Point: God used the prophet Hosea to show His people that, even though we are unfaithful to Him, He remains faithful to us. 2

Lesson 9: God s Heart for the Nations Treasure Story: Jonah 1:1-4:11 Treasure Point: God used the prophet Jonah to show us His compassion. The Lord desires for all people to repent and come to Him through His Son, Jesus. Jesus is the best proof of God s faithfulness to us. Lesson 11: The Just Shall Live by Faith Treasure Story: Habakkuk 2:2-20 Treasure Point: God is in complete control of all things. He is always at work for the good of His people and for the glory of His name. Lesson 13: Kings and Prophets Treasure Story: Psalm 78:1-72 Treasure Point: When we remember what God has done in the past, we are better able to trust Him with our present and our future. Lesson 7: The Gift of Family Treasure Story: Ruth 3:1-18 Treasure Point: Jesus Christ, our Redeemer, provides us with a way to become part of God s family. 3

Lesson 8: Preserving the Royal Line Treasure Story: Ruth 4:1-22 Treasure Point: Throughout the book of Ruth, God was at work preparing the way for our salvation, which would come through Jesus Christ our Redeemer. Lesson 9: The Rejected Stone Treasure Story: Psalm 118:1-29 Treasure Point: Jesus, the cornerstone of the believer s life, is worthy of all our praise and thanksgiving. Lesson 10: The Meaning of Life Treasure Story: Ecclesiastes 2:1-26 Treasure Point: God has created each of us with an empty space in our hearts that only He can fill. God gives our life meaning and purpose once we stop trying to fill that space with created things and allow Him to fill it with Himself. Lesson 11: The Essence of Wisdom is to Fear the Lord Treasure Story: Ecclesiastes 11:7-12:14 Treasure Point: The purpose and meaning of our lives is found only in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Lesson 2: The Beautiful Bride Treasure Story: Esther 2:1-18 Treasure Point: God is sovereign over all things. He used Esther to save His people from destruction, and He uses His church to lead people to the saving power of His Son, Jesus. Lesson 3: God Turns the Schemes of the Wicked Treasure Story: Esther 8:1-17 Treasure Point: Only God can bring good from evil and salvation from death. Lesson 4: Standing Firm Treasure Story: Daniel 1:1-21 Treasure Point: When God calls us to stand apart from the culture in obedience to Him, we can trust that He will be with us. Nothing could stop Him from keeping His promise to return the Jews to their Promised Land and nothing can stop Him from fulfilling His promises to us. Lesson 12: The Coming Kingdom Treasure Story: 2 Chronicles 8:1-18 Treasure Point: As wonderful as Solomon s kingdom was, it could never begin to compare with God s kingdom. In God s kingdom, all who have trusted Jesus as their Savior and Rescuer from sin will live with Him forever. Lesson 13: Hope Amid Sorrow Treasure Story: 2 Chronicles 36:1-21 Treasure Point: Jesus took God s wrath upon Himself so that we would have a chance to be saved from the hopelessness of sin. The entire Old Testament points us to Jesus and the wonderful hope He brings. 5
