October 29-30, 2016 Elisha and Naaman. 2 Kings 5 God can heal us. First 10 minutes of the service hour: Engage kids in cooperative play activities to help them connect to other kids Next 5 minutes: Connect Time Next 25 minutes: Large Group Next weekend is the last lesson of the Real Encounters with God series, and the week after that (Nov 12-13) kids will get something really special to help them and their friends explore God s story with their families at home! Make sure to tell kids to invite their friends that weekend so they can be a part of it! Last 25 minutes: Snack and Small Group As kids leave, ask them how their Naaman puppet is feeling, and what he had to do to feel better! Today, we re hearing the story of how God used Elisha to heal Naaman. But God didn t just physically heal Naaman, he changed his heart too!
GOAL: Connect time is all about engaging kids in a short, interactive game to prepare them for Large Group. Clean up! (10 minutes after the service start time, when you get the 5-minute warning from the presenter) Line up. Tell kids that today we re going to talk about how God helped a sick man feel better! Tell kids to touch a certain body part (ex: knees) and then act like it s hurting them. Then, do the action in parentheses to make it feel better. Ow, our knees hurt! (Rub to make them feel better.) Ow, our heads hurt! (Pat to make it feel better.) Ooh, our feet hurt! (Rub to make them feel better.) Ahh, our belly buttons hurt! (Poke to make it feel better.) Ow, our elbow hurts! (Kiss it to make it feel better.) Ooooh, our shoulders hurt! (Rub to make it feel better.) Ow, our neck hurts! (Rub to make it feel better.) Ow, our nose hurts! (Pat with one finger to feel better.) As you walk into Large Group, encourage kids to put on their listening ears! Remind them that HOPS will be showing us how we should act in Large Group, so we have to listen!
Goal: Kids will (1) understand that God healed Naaman s sickness AND his heart, and (2) God can heal us too! Why? Healing is an important part of God s rescue plan. When Jesus came to the world to save us from sickness, sadness and death, he healed us of those things! Tip: Remember to tell kids that it wasn t the river that made Naaman better, it was GOD! REVIEW THE STORY 1. What was wrong with Naaman? (He was sick and was mean to everyone.) 2. Who knew how to help Naaman get better? (The little girl that he was mean to.) 3. What did she tell Naaman to do? (Go find Elisha.) 4. When Naaman found Elisha, what did Elisha tell him to do? (Wash in the dirty river seven times. Have kids count to 7 with you.) 5. What happened when Naaman washed in the dirty river? (He was healed! He felt better, and he stopped being mean.) 6. Who REALLY healed Naaman and made him feel better? (God!) MAKE IT PERSONAL Give each kid a Popsicle stick and 1 double-sided Naaman image. Set out markers and have the kids color each Naaman (One side has spots and shows him as sick. One side is normal and shows him as healthy.) Set out glue sticks and help kids glue Naaman onto the Popsicle stick. Then act it out! Give each kid a turn to dip Naaman into the dirty river 7 times (Bin filled with brown and green paper.) Have them act like it s gross, etc. Now that Naaman is all better, have them turn him to the side with no spots! Act like he s happy and healthy! Extra time? Have kids do a coloring sheet. After that, play Simon Says! Make some of the actions related to the story, like Simon Says...pretend to wash in a river! or Simon Says...act like you re sick!
Use big, dramatic gestures, as well as soft, quiet gestures to make the story come alive for kids. Act gruff in the beginning to show how Naaman used to be; act joyful in the end to show how he was healed! WELCOME AND INTRO Main Goal: Review the beginning of God s story and rescue plan. Notes: We have a brand new video today called KC Moves: Naaman. Watch it here: https://vimeo.com/181840836 *Click to play intro music. Say: Hi Friends! Welcome to Kids Club. I'm and I'm really glad you're here today. Before we get started, I want you to meet my friend HOPS. Video: HOPS Have fun! (fall theme) Say: (Holding up the Bible.) This is God s story. Out of all the stories in the world, this is the most important. Do you know what it s called? (Let kids respond the Bible. ) That s right, the Bible! It s God s Rescue plan. It shows us how He rescued us from all the wrong things in the world. Say: In the beginning, God made the whole world and everything in it. He created the sun and the moon, the water and the land, the plants and the animals, and people like you and me! Everything was good. Give me a big thumbs up! (Let kids respond. Then change your tone.) Say: But THEN, something bad happened. Adam and Eve disobeyed God, and all the wrong things came into the world. Things like sadness and death. Show me your sad face. (Let kids respond.) Say: Even though Adam and Eve disobeyed God, God loved them anyway! He planned a great rescue so that Adam and Eve, and you and me, could be close to God again! Do you know who the Rescuer is? (Let kids say: Jesus!)
INTRO: NAAMAN Main Goal: Show how Naaman was sick, and needed to be healed. NAAMAN IS SICK Main Goal: Show what happened when Naaman was sick and the little girl tried to help him! NAAMAN DOESN T LISTEN Main Goal: See how Naaman tries to get better in his OWN way. Say: Today, we re going to see a story of how God rescued a man from a sickness, and from being a mean person! Say: His name was Naaman. Can you guys say, Naaman? (Let kids say it.) Good job! Naaman was very, very important. But he was also very, very sick. Can you show me a sad face? (Act really sad along with kids.) He had a disease on his skin. Let s all rub our arms. (Let kids respond.) Say: Naaman was also very mean! Can you show me a mean face? (Act mean and say, Grrrr! along with kids.) Say: We re going to watch a video and see if Naaman stays sick, or if he gets better. As you watch, pay attention to what makes his sickness go away! Video: KC Moves: Naaman (Image: River) Ask: So what did Naaman have to do to make his sickness go away? (Let kids respond.) That s right; he had to get in a stinky, dirty river! That might seem kind of silly, but we re going to talk more about why God wanted him to do that! Say: While Naaman was still sick and really mean to everybody, he made the little girl go to work. He was not very nice to her, but she was nice to him! She showed love to him. Let s give ourselves a big hug. (Let kids respond.) Say: The little girl told Naaman to go see a man named Elisha. Say, Elisha. (Let kids respond.) Good job! Elisha was part of God s family and he could help Naaman feel all better! But did Naaman go to see Elisha like the little girl said? (Let kids respond.) Nope, he went to see the king first. Say: Say, Let s go find the king! (Let kids respond.) (Image: Crown/King) Naaman finally found the king. But when Naaman asked him for help, the king just said, Go find Elisha! Let s all say, Go find Elisha! (Let kids respond.) Say: Guess what? Right then, Elisha sent a message to Naaman. He invited Naaman to his house! Naaman hurried as fast as he could. Let s all stand and pretend to run to Elisha s house! (Respond along with kids.)
GOD HEALS NAAMAN Main Goal: See how Naaman is healed once he listens and obeys God! WRAP UP AND WORSHIP Main Goal: Help kids interact through prayer and worship! Ask: Did Elisha give Naaman some medicine to make him feel better? (Let kids respond.) Nope. Did Elisha take Naaman to the doctor s office? (Let kids respond.) Nope! Instead, he took Naaman to a slimy, smelly old river. Loop: River (Let video play while you continue to talk.) Say: Elisha told Naaman to wash himself in the dirty river SEVEN times! Let s pretend to go in the river 7 times just like Naaman (Lead kids in standing and bending 7 times, like in the KC Moves video.) Say: Great job! And guess what happened after he washed in the river 7 times, Naaman was all better! Yay! (Act really happy!) Say: Guess what? It wasn t just the river that made Naaman feel better. It was GOD! He rescued Naaman from his horrible sickness, and he also rescued Naaman from all the meanness in his heart. Put your hands on your heart right now. (Let kids respond.) Say: God also rescued all of US from all the wrong things in the world all our sickness and sadness and meanness. Let s pray, and thank God for rescuing us! Pray (Breaking it into small, repeatable phrases): God, thank you for rescuing us. Thank you for making us all better! We love you. Aaa-men! Set up worship: Now it s time to to show God how much we love him. Let s sing and dance and worship him! Music Video: Jesus Loves Me Music Video: Come With Song: King of the Jungle
