Fear of Not Mattering Fearless Discussion 2 Randy Broberg February 6, 2012

MUSICAL WORSHIP 7 pm to 7:10 pm

INTRODUCTORY COMMENTS 7:15 pm

Review Psalm 56:3 When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You. Fear + Faith = Courage Faith is Knowing, believing and relying (trusting). Therefore courage comes with Knowing who God is and what he has promised Believing it is true and He is faithful Living in such a way as to rely on it.

Let s Watch Max Lucado Now 7:10 pm

Luke 12:4-7 6 Are not five sparrows sold for two cents? Yet not one of them is forgotten before God. 7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows. Who sets the price of a sparrow the sparrow or the buyer and seller? Who numbers our hairs? Why are we more valuable than a sparrow?

Psalm 139:13-14 13 For You formed my inward parts You wove me in my mother s womb. 14 I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, God didn t just create Adam, he created each of us specifically Nature vs. Nurture but God Gets 100% of credit

1 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, 2 in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. 3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. Ephesians 2:1-3 Without Christ we are: Dead Worldly Disobedient Lustful Flesh indulgers Children of wrath

Ephesians 2:4-7 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead» in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. We Matter Because We are One with Christ

Ephesians 2:8-10 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that» not of yourselves,» it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that» no one may boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,» which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. Saved by Grace through Faith, not works Even your faith is a gift of God Even your good works come from God

TABLE DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 7:30 to 8:00 PM

QUESTIONS TABLE 1 Why are sparrows valuable and why are we more valuable than sparrows? What is it about our union with Christ that should comfort us in times of fear? TABLE 2 What price did God pay for us? Did he pay the price because we were valuable or are we valuable because he was willing to pay the price? What role does understanding of our value play in times of fear?

QUESTIONS TABLE 3 What is Grace? What room is there for our merit? Apart from Grace, what would be our end? What role does understanding Grace play in times of fear? TABLE 4 Did God have a plan and a purpose for us when he made us? How can we know what that purpose and plan are? Did God create mankind or each of us individually? Why is this important in times of fear?

TABLE SPOKESPERSONS 8:00 to 8:15 PM

CLOSING COMMENTS 8:15 TO 8:30 PM SO THEN, WHY BE AFRAID?

Don t Fear Because He Paid the Ultimate Price for Us Romans 8:32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?

Don t Fear Because He Has a Plan Isaiah 44:8 Do not tremble and do not be afraid; Have I not long since announced it to you and declared it? And you are My witnesses. Is there any God besides Me, Or is there any other Rock? I know of none.

Don t Fear Because You Have a God-given Destiny Luke 12:32 Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom.

What shall we fear? Romans 8:35, 36-39 35 Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
