WISE MAN 2: Once upon a long, long time ago; begins the story of a baby that most of the world does know. His father was Joseph and Mary was his mom. This babe was very special. He was God s only Son. WISE MAN 3: [LOOKING UP] Hark! The sign in the sky is here! [POINTS TO STAR] The Son has come, there is nothing to fear! [SONG] WHAT CHILD IS THIS? What child is this, who, laid to rest, On Mary s lap is sleeping? Whom angels greet with anthems sweet, While shepherds watch are keeping? WISE MAN 1: Mary rode a camel and Joseph walked along while angels watched from afar celebrating in song. [MARY LOOKS WEARY] JOSEPH: Are you alright? MARY: Joseph, I don t think I can travel much longer. The baby JOSEPH: We ll find a place to stay for the night. Don t worry, God is watching over us. WISE MAN 2: When they arrived in Bethlehem, the couple was turned away by keepers of the inn telling them there was no room to stay. WISE MAN 3: Now Joseph he insisted that his wife has someplace to stay. The keeper told him of a stable with animals and hay. JOSEPH: It ll be alright. The Lord has promised. [MARY NODS, ENTERS STABLE] WISE MAN 1: Mary and Joseph s journey ended in a stable filled with hay. It was there that Mary gave birth to our King on this blessed day. [SONG] AWAY IN A MANGER Away in a manger, no crib for a bed The little Lord Jesus lay down His sweet head. The stars in the sky, looked down where he lay, The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay. MARCIE: No, was that my job? [HUDSON SNICKERS] Shhh! [ANGELS WALK OUT, ONE HOLDS THEIR STOMACH. THE TWO BEGIN WALKING TOWARD THE WISE MEN AND MARY, THEN THE ONE DOUBLES OVER AND RUNS OUT.] MARCIE: Problem! Was that? MARCIE: Yup. And now? MARCIE: Yup. [LOOK AT HUDSON] Well, then. MARCIE: Yup.
HUDSON: [GRABS HUDSON S SHOULDERS AND BEGINS STEERING HIM TOWARD THE STAGE] Alright Hudson, you re up. The Angel Gabriel is indisposed, so now you re our angel. [HANDS SCRIPT, PUTS HALO ON HEAD] You can just read it all. Break a leg! [PROTESTS AS HE GETS CLOSER TO STAGE] But I.. No, I m really more a a behind the scenes guy! You don t [REACHES STAGE, SILENCE, ALL LOOKING AT HIM, STARTS SHAKING] WISE MAN 2: Some angels came from heaven and they began to sing to the shepherds in the fields below, Glad tidings do we bring! HUDSON: Uh WISE MAN 2: [PROMPTING] Glad tidings do we bring! HUDSON: Uh WISE MAN 2: [SHOUTING] Glad tidings DO WE BRING! HUDSON: [ADDRESSING CHILDREN AS SHEPHERDS, SAYS VERY FAST] Do not be afraid. [HUDSON HALF-BOWS, THEN RUNS BACK TO THE BOX] MARCIE: I think you ve missed your calling, Hudson. [FAKES WIPING HER EYES, HUDSON GOES BACKSTAGE] [SONG] HARK THE HERALD ANGELS SING Hark! The herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn King! Peace on Earth and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled! Joyful, all ye nations rise Join the triumph of the skies With the angelic host proclaim: Christ is born in Bethlehem Hark! The herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn King! WISE MAN 3: Word of the King s arrival soon spread very fast. The Angels told shepherds that a Savior was born at last. [MARCIE RUNS UP WITH STAR AGAIN.] WISE MAN 1: A bright star lit the heavens to light the magi s way, who travelled many miles to see the baby who had been born on Christmas day. MARCIE: MARCIE: MARCIE: We have a problem. You think? No, um, well, you see [LOOKS AROUND] Where s Jesus? That s what I was trying to, er, tell, and You forgot Baby Jesus didn t you.
[MARCIE NODS] MARCIE: We could always do the ol blanket trick? Or borrow a doll from HUDSON: [WALKS ON, HOLDING BABY] Alright, I ve got a baby! [MARY TAKES BABY, WALKS TO MANGER NATIVITY WITH JOSEPH] H, M, D: [HUSHED] No, no, no! [NATIVITY ONSTAGE FINALIZES, WITH MARY, JOSEPH, WISE MEN, ANIMALS, ETC.] I ve ruined Christmas. That s it. [MOVES OUT OF BOX] It s over, I tried, I can t, I can t. There s no star, there s no camels, we lost an angel, we stole a baby; everything has gone wrong! [GOES IN FRONT OF STAGE] It s all ruined, and now I ve ruined everyone s Christmas [FINALLY LOOKS UP, FREEZES] WISE MAN 2: All who gathered around Him rejoiced and praised His birth. For the babe, the King, named Jesus is our Savior here on earth! [SONG] THE FIRST NOEL The first Noel, the Angels did say Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay; In fields where they lay keeping their sheep On a cold winter s night that was so deep. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel Born is the King of Israel [DIRECTOR WATCHES THE TABLEAU, SEES EVERYONE SINGING ALONG] That s what I ve been missing That s what this is about, isn t it? MARCIE: [NODS] The true meaning of Christmas isn t found in a play, or in a perfect present, or even in well-loved traditions. The true spirit of Christmas is in each of us, every time we smile to another person, every time we take an extra step to do something good for another. HUDSON: Today isn t even about the spectacle or anything like that. It s about celebrating Jesus. It s all because God loved us first and sent his son so that we might live. MARCIE: That s the real reason. To be happy and grateful and celebrate. I m sorry, you guys. This really is great after all. [DIRECTOR, MARCIE, and HUDSON HUG] WISE MAN 3: So as we celebrate Christmas with candy, presents, and more, remember we have a Savior, giving us life forevermore!
ALL: [TO HUDSON AND MARCIE] Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas, Grace Fellowship Church! [SONG] JOY TO THE WORLD Joy to the World, The Lord has come, Let Earth receive her King Let every heart prepare Him room And Heaven and Nature sing, And Heaven and Nature sing, And Heaven, Heaven and Nature sing. [ PEANUTS SONG, STUDENTS DANCE FOR A MOMENT, LEADS BOW, AND THEN ALL DANCE OFF STAGE] THE END
