Agree or Disagree An ESL Lesson

To disagree, one doesn t have to be disagreeable. When people are divided the only solution is agreement. Let s agree to disagree I disagree with everything I used to say. Too much agreement kills the chat. It s important to learnt to talk to people you disagree with We can disagree on things without being disagreeable

Can you think of some situations when you might agree or disagree with someone?

What language can you use to agree or disagree with someone?

The column on the left (Stuart) is in the correct order. Please put the responses on the left (Tom) into the correct order. Hi Tom. Nothing much. I m just watching a debate on TV. It s about banning smoking in public buildings. Well, I don t think people should be allowed to smoke in public places, so I support the ban. Really? I m surprised. I m a smoker, so I should have the right to smoke whenever I want. So why can t you just go outside if it bothers you? Sure. You don t have to smoke if you don t want to. What s the problem? But don t you think that non-smokers have rights, too? Well, I m a smoker, and my health is good. Well, I think that I should have the right not to breathe smoke. I could ask you the same question. Why can t smokers just go outside if they want to smoke? I hope so. Hi Stuart. What s happening? I can breathe better if I don t have to breathe smoke. Smoking is bad for your health. Doctors say that even breathing second-hand smoke can cause cancer. Yes, but will it be good in fifteen years? I hope so, too. Listen, I think we ll just have to agree to disagree about this subject. Do you want to watch the debate with me? Sure. Oh, yeah. I heard that that was going to be on. So, what do you think about it? Well, smoking is part of my lifestyle. I can think better if I have a cigarette.
