A Word from the Publisher: Dear reader, young and old alike, Brevis a natura nobis vita data est; at memoria bene redditae vitae sempiterna. It is a brief period of life that is granted us by nature, but the memory of a well-spent life never dies. Marcus Tullius Cicero, Philippic 14.12 So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12, NKJV History is an interesting blend of facts, legends, assumptions and speculations. Historical research uncovers events from the past how, when and where an incident happened. It cannot, however, fully explain motivations why someone did what they did or how an event can be interpreted so differently by two or more eye-witnesses. History is the story of people from the past people who lived and died based on their convictions and perceptions about the world they lived in. What Really Happened in Ancient Times is a compilation of stories based upon actual historical happenings as found in scripture and other historical writings. We, the authors, have been careful not to add to nor subtract from the actual events of history, especially the scriptural accounts. We have, however, added small fictional elements, or daily life details, as to contribute to the flow of the biographies and the ease of reading. In the same way, some unsavory details have been left out or glossed over for the benefit of our younger readers and listeners. We hope that you will enjoy these historical tales of real live people and learn something new about the time period we call the Ancient Times.
