It is a local campaign to help fund all our seminarians. Each parish is tabulated on how much we give to this needed Campaign. I look forward to sharing with you our results. Hopefully you received in your mail at home some materials like I did, if not let us know. If you are able to give, that would be fantastic. A worthy and good gift. We have so many good candidates studying for Holy Orders right now in the Diocese of Green Bay. Anything you can do to help them would be greatly appreciated. Here again are some comments from the Diocesan Vocation Director: Right now at this very moment there is so much Good News coming forth from the Catholic Church that needs to be proclaimed. Something powerful is happening in the Diocese of Green Bay and in the greater church. It must be told that we are witnessing a "renewal" and a "revival" in all areas of the faith. In our own country, 48,000 high school students met the Holy Spirit at Steubenville prayer conferences. In our own diocese, hundreds of young people attended Camp Tekakwitha, or a Totus Tuus summer camp, or Catholic Youth Expeditions (CYE), or went on mission trips. The parishes themselves are growing in holiness, becoming fully engaged, and are more fully alive in Christ Jesus. The greatest need in the Church today for the sake of this renewal is committed discipleship. Our seminarians are striving to live a life of committed discipleship in a radical way; one that is unpopular. With more committed disciples, we will witness a rise in vocations to the priesthood. We need priests to help rebuild the soul of the church according to the Holy Spirit rather than the Spirit of the World. Our seminarians want to help rebuild God's church by forming parishes that are schools of prayer rather than schools of ten thousand activities. Pope Francis spoke beautifully of the call for disciples to beware of the Spirit of the World: "But there are those who think following Jesus is a career.... Following Jesus is... going with him out of love, behind him: on the same journey, the same path. And the Spirit of the world will not tolerate this and what will make us suffer, but suffering is as Jesus did." Each seminarian has encountered Jesus Christ and is responding to their call of discipleship. Now they want to go make more disciples and sanctify the world through the sacramental life of the Church. This is the mission of the priest. Each year, we need more than $1 million to assist our future priests with: Tuition, Room Continued
August 4 & 5, 2018 PAGE 3 and Board, Health Care and other expenses. Your gift to the Seminarian Collection helps offset those costs. Your generous gift of $25, $50, $100, $500 or more to the Seminarian Collection will make a huge difference now -- and for the future of our Church. To learn more about the Seminarian Collection or vocations to the priesthood, contact Fr. Daniel Schuster in Vocations at (920) 272-8289 or 1-877-500-3580, ext. 8289, or e-mail vocations@gbdioc.org. You can give online or download a pledge card. Visit the diocesan website or the Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of Green Bay online. Coming S. B T F Alpha is a 10 week series that explores the Christian faith. Each talk looks at a different question about faith and is designed to create conversation. Fr. Mark Vander Steeg The 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time Each day the people are to go out and gather their daily portion: thus will I test them, to see whether they follow my instructions or not. (EXODUS 16:4) When the Israelites gathered more than their daily portion of manna, the surplus became wormy and rotten. In the same way today, self-reliance, pride and ego leads to hoarding and excessive surplus of goods and money. Living a stewardship lifestyle helps us discern our wants from our needs. Living a generous lifestyle reminds us that God will provide all that we need and that we have plenty to share. Scrip Program Coordinator St. Bernard is looking for a new Scrip program coordinator. It is a compensated, part-time position. Based on diocesan audit recommendations, the redefined Scrip coordinator s position will be responsible for marketing Scrip to the parish and school families, recruiting and coordinating Scrip volunteers, and working with the Scrip Oversight Committee to implement the audit changes.
