November 1, 2015 All Saints Day Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:3) Poor in spirit is confusing for many of us. It simply means to place your trust in God, putting His will first and being strong in faith. As we celebrate the lives of the saints on All Saints Day, remember, we, too are called to be saints. Dialing down our own pride and ego and turning up the humility will help us on our path to sainthood. Jesus began his sermon with words that seem to contradict each other. But, remember, God s way of living usually contradicts the worlds. If you truly want to live for God, you must be ready to say and do what seems strange to the world. You must be willing to give when others take, to love when others hate, to help when others abuse. By giving up your own rights in order to serve others, you will one day receive everything God has in store for you. WE LONG TO SEE GOD S FACE Lord, this is the people that longs to see your face. This antiphon for today s responsorial psalm offers the focus for today s readings. As we on earth celebrate the triumph of all the saints the ones officially canonized by the Church, and the countless others who have also reached heaven we add nothing to their glory. But we give ourselves reason to hope. We too long to see the face of God and believe that we can one day be counted among those whose robes, as John tells us in the book of Revelation, are washed white in the blood of the Lamb. The passage from John s First Letter offers further assurance: we are God s children who will one day see God. But today s Gospel pulls us past longing and reassurance into action. Jesus clearly tells us what we must do to be counted among the saints. We must be poor in spirit, hungry for holiness, merciful, singlehearted, and peacemakers! Then we too will see the face of God. Save The Date 25 th Anniversary Party Mass was celebrated in the original St. Boniface church in December 1990. To commemorate the occasion there will be a party after mass on Saturday, December 5, 2015 All of our past pastors and sisters have been invited to join us. Please watch for sign-up sheets. CATHOLIC FOCUS As Catholic Christians we are called by our Lord to continue our understanding and knowledge of our Catholic faith, the Sacred Scriptures, and our need to share our faith with others. These areas are covered in our Catholic Focus class every Sunday morning at 9:45 AM in the Catholic Focus room in the Faith Formation building. We receive our lessons for the week (on a monthly basis) via email--to download and prepare for the lesson on the following Sunday. The lessons are based on the Mass Scriptures for that particular week. We have a catechist that leads the class as we ponder and discuss how the Scriptures encourage us to actually "LIVE AND APPLY THEIR UNDERSTANDING TO THE MANNER IN WHICH WE LIVE OUR LIVES". Adults of all ages are welcome. We look forward to meeting and greeting you as we grow in our knowledge of God's Calling in our lives-to become the Disciples and Stewards we are "called" to be. Please stop by and see for yourselves. RCIA This week s RCIA topic will be Catholics and the Church. Want to learn more, come and join us. Everyone is welcome! Judging Others "Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven."
