Lead Like Jesus Session Seven Debbie Ormonde, D.D
Spiritual Reasons for Leading Like Jesus Servant Leaders Seek FIRST the Kingdom Leadership is primarily about two things RESULTS and RELATIOSHIPS Jesus calls those who would follow Him not to worry about producing the results of most of their labors by telling them, Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33
Servant Leadership Honors God and His commandments When Jesus was asked what was the greatest commandment was, what did he reply?
If being a Christian was a crime, would there be enough evidence in your life to convict you?
Servant leadership is a concrete expression of a daily commitment to live out the Word of God and the will of God and thereby advance the Kingdom of God.
Servant Leadership Puts Love Into Action When Jesus restored Peter to the leadership role he was to play among His followers, Jesus had only one qualifying question: do you truly love me? The theme of Jesus instruction was Feed my sheep. To lead like Jesus is always to seek to do the loving thing in the use of our influence on the thinking, behavior, and development of others.
What makes a loving Leader? Jesus healed with a touch. He confronted with a word. He fed the hungry, He counseled the mistaken and the downhearted, He mourned with the grieving, He calmed the terrified, He confronted falsehood and spoke the truth, He listened with compassion and discernment. He took time with the week and powerless. He went to the cross for each of us.
Servant Leadership Models Jesus to Others Be shepherds of God s flock that is under your care, watching over them not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. 1Peter 5:2-3
Servant Leadership Provides Better Service Organizations lead by servant leaders are more likely to take better care of their relationships with customers and colleagues. The competition can t duplicate the relationship that your people have with your customers. Under servant leadership, these relationship can really grow, because the people closest to the customer are given the power to soar like eagles rather than quack like ducks.
Servant Leadership Provides Better Leadership Organizations led by servant leaders are less likely to experience poor leadership. Servant leaders have solid self-esteem. They are willing to admit when they have weakness or need assistance. Reaching out to your people for help creates an environment where new ideas and new solutions emerge.
Servant Leadership Closes the Gap Between Success and Significance People and Organizations led by servant leaders are more likely to function well in values-based environments where success and significance are available at all levels. Led to serve one another well as a common vision, people in these environments tend to work honestly and ethically. When leaders focus on significance first, their emphasis is on their people. Through that emphasis, success and results will follow.

Leading Like Jesus is not a course; it is a lifestyle. It is: 1. Development of people 2. Following the example of Jesus 3. Pouring your life into others 4. Leaving a leadership legacy of service
The greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like one who serves Luke 22:26
The first challenge for the Lead Like Jesus leader is to recognize:
Your leadership is not about your position or your title or about the money you make; it is about following the servant leadership example of Jesus.
What God wants is really what matters.
Live Your Life with God-Grounded Confidence Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God... John 13:3
Jesus clearly knew who He belonged to! Jesus knew where He had came from and therefore could wash the feet of the disciples. If you are going to confidently serve the people you are leading, to have to know, WHOSE you are and WHO you are.
Live a Life Full of Integrity...so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him. John 13:4-5
Live a Life Full of Integrity Integrity means not only talking about being a Lead Like Jesus leader, but actually living it! Jesus did not just talk about serving, he actually did it! He got down on His hands and knees and washed the dirty feet of the disciples.
Live a Life Full of Integrity Some of the problems for today leaders are; 1. They don t practice what they preach 2. They stumble people by their actions People need to not only hear you talking about the message of Christ, but they need to see you living the message in the way we lead and serve others.
When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. Do you understand what I have done for you? he asked them. You call me Teacher and Lord, and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. John 13:12-17
Do you understand what Jesus has done for you? Are you ready to submit to His way of leading? Some spiritual leaders try to be committed. What they need is to be more submitted. Henry Blackaby
Have you submitted your ENTIRE life to God? This is the first decision you must make if you are going to LEAD LIKE JESUS.
The next question is: Have you let Him have full control of your life?
