Vičnaja Pamjat ETERNAL MEMORY: We extend our deepest condolences to the members of the Petrik family, in memory of Michael Petrik who fell asleep in the Lord on Sunday, January 22 nd. TODAY: ALTAR SOCIETY MEETING CHILDREN S SERMON HIGH SCHOOL STUDIES CLASS The Sunday of Zacchaeus is the start of our count down to the Lenten Season, which happens to be approaching very quickly! St. Zacchaeus was in many ways an outcast in Jesus s time. As a tax collecter, he had swindled a great many of his own neighbors and in those times, it was very typical behavior of a collector like Zacchaeus. In a desperate moment and in great sorrow for his poor behavior and mistreatment of others, he climbed a tree and called out to Christ. But Christ saw him first (He sees ALL of us first) and invites himself to Zacchaeus s home. This goes against all the proud Pharisees but as Christ Himself said: I came not to call the righteous, but the sinners to repentance. (Mk 2:17) O Holy Zacchaeus, Pray to God for us!

The Super Bowl Pick-n-Play has started! See Helenka Tymus or Debbie Derevjanik if you want to join in the fun! Details are on the Volunteer Board in the Main Hall. WILL YOU HELP US TACKLE HUNGER AGAIN THIS YEAR? The children of St. Nicholas Church will be participating in the Souper Bowl of Caring, a national youth movement working to fight hunger and poverty in local communities. You can participate two ways: 1) Please bring in nonperishable foods and place in the food collection box in Hall #2 or 2) add a monetary donation to our Soup Pot collection in Hall #2 we will go buy the food. Please bring your food in by Feb. 5 th, Super Bowl Sunday the day of the Annual Parish Meeting. Last year, we collected more than the equivalent weight of a NFL football player. Maybe this year, we can collect for two (500 lbs). Your help would be greatly appreciated! Following Last Sunday s Gospel & Sermon, a total of $708 was raised from among the faithful to assist the family, in light of Nik s recently suffered injuries sustained overseas. At last week s Parish Board Meeting, board members and officers voted to match and increase on the parish collection, bringing the total raised to $1,500. We pray this will go some way in helping the family satisfy their costs. Thank you to everyone for your amazing contributions! - We can also announce that, by God s grace, Nik healed enough to return home to his family!

It was a joyful celebration of wonderful food, dancing, and fellowship. Music was provided by Vox Ethnika, who played well into the night. The event was planned by Doreen Clemente, Helena Gajdos and Magda Matlak. Chef George Chobor and his assistant Justina prepared an outstanding cocktail buffet, followed by a delicious meal. Our deepest appreciation and thanks to everyone who helped get this event underway, especially Doreen, Helena, Magda, George and Justina, as well as Jan Gajdos, Kathy Matlak and Cristian for all of the hard work you put in to create this year s celebration. May God bless us with many more joyful years! We bade farewell to Consulate General Jana.Trnovcova of the Slovak Republic, who has been our honored guest for a number of years and must now regrettably return to Slovakia. We wish her well in her travels and ask God to bless her with many blessed and joy-filled years!

THEOPHANY 2017 Faithful joined together on the evening of January 18 th for the Vigil of the Baptism of our Lord, as well as the Great Blessing of Water - As the Holy Spirit descended upon the waters of the Jordan, may He also descend upon our hearts and our minds and fill us with good things!

OUTREACH EFFORTS SENIORS IN SLOVAKIA : A NEW APPEAL As we glide into 2017, we are jump starting our Go Fund Me page again, as over the autumn, the senior center hired local men to put in a walk-in shower and new toilet facility for the clients. There were major safety and health issues with the original set up. Many of the clients depend on walkers and/or crutches and could not access the bathroom. The brand new toileting and shower space is luxurious and safe, but of course, did not come without cost. The senior center needs to pay back $7,000 to cover the supplies and labor used in this project. Kindly think about including this project in your New Year s list of donations. These seniors are our ancestral pillars; many of them are your grandparents, aunts, uncles or extended family. They are humble and discreet and don t ask outwardly for anything, as you all know. But we must tend to them and make them comfortable and safe.
