Saint Ann s Parish Passion Sunday March 29, 2015 This week, of course, is Holy Week. It is our most solemn time of the year, and concludes with the Holy Triduum of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter. We recall during this week everything Our Lord did to redeem us from sin, which we also perpetuate at every Mass. The Church instructs that all scheduled confessions should conclude before the Holy Triduum begins; thus, the last confessions will be on Wednesday at 7:30 PM. On Monday, we will join with the other parishes of the Archdiocese of New York, the Diocese of Brooklyn, and the Diocese of Rockville Center in celebrating Reconciliation Monday. A priest will be available for Confession from 4:00 PM-8:00 PM. By ancient tradition, there are no morning Masses on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. We will celebrate Tenebrae, an ancient morning prayer service that marks these holy days. They include the chanting of the haunting Lamentations of the Prophet Jeremiah, which are very moving. I strongly encourage everyone to participate in all the events of Holy Week, including the Mass of the Lord s Supper on Thursday night, which concludes with the transfer of the Holy Eucharist to the Repository in Fr. Anthony Hall, where silent adoration will continue until Midnight. Spending time in adoration is a beautiful way to remember Our Lord s agony in the garden and His command, Stay here with me; watch and pray. On Good Friday, as we mourn the Lord s death, we venerate His cross and remember His tremendous love for us. We also may gather in the evening to walk the Way of the Cross with Him as we pray the Stations of the Cross. Remember that Good Friday is a day of fast and abstinence. On Saturday we rest, preparing ourselves for the Queen of all Feasts Easter! Join us for prayer this week. I m sure you ll be glad you did! A Note from Father Mastrolia at St. Anthony s Dear Friends: I would like to personally invite you, your relatives, and friends to join me on a special trip in the Fall of 2015 (September 8-18) to cities and special places dear to the heart of St. John Paul II. I am planning a pilgrimage to begin in Poland to visit significant sites such as the birthplace of Karol Jozef Wojtyla, his churches in Krakow, and the Shrine of the Black Madonna at Czestochowa, which attracts pilgrims throughout the year and was frequently visited by the Saint. We will then travel to Rome to visit the sacred sites of our Catholic faith, including the Sistine Chapel, the Basilicas of Christian Rome and the Catacombs. We will, of course, take in the historic venues of ancient Rome like the Roman Forum and the Colosseum. We will celebrate the Liturgies, as well as have the opportunity to attend a general audience with Pope Francis on the week before he leaves for his visit to New York! We will visit and pray at the same locations where Saint John Paul II, St. Francis and St. Clare came closer to God. Visits to the medieval cities of Assisi and Florence promise to be a most enriching experience! As we prepare for our departure on the Birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary, I hope you will imitate his deep Marian devotion and say yes to this invitation! Sincerely in Christ, Fr.
