An Anticipated Outpouring Joel 2:28-29 28 And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. 29 And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. (NKJV) Acts 1:4-5 4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, which, He said, you have heard from Me; 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now. (NKJV) Acts 1:13-15. 13 When they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas the son of James. 14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers. 15 And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples (altogether the number of names was about a hundred and twenty)... (NKJV) Acts 2:1-4 1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. (NKJV) Mark 16:17-18 17 These signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover. (NKJV) John 14:12 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. (NKJV) 3. An Anticipated Holiness 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 9 Don t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, 10 or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people - none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. 11 Some of you were once like that. 1. (NKJV) God promised He would pour out the Holy Spirit on His people and everyone would be impacted. 3
Acts 1:4-5 4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, which, He said, you have heard from Me; 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now. (NKJV) Luke writes as a reminder of what Jesus had told His followers concerning the Holy Spirit and how they would be forever changed by His presence in their lives. Acts 1:13-15 13 When they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas the son of James. 14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers. (cont d) 4
15 And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples (altogether the number of names was about a hundred and twenty)... (NKJV) There were about 120 disciples, including Mary the mother of Jesus, who anticipated the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:1-4 1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. (NKJV) 5
The Holy Spirit was poured out on everyone, they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and they all spoke with other tongues - including Mary the mother of Jesus! 2. An Anticipated Power 6
Luke 24:49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high. (NKJV) Jesus said His Father promised to send the Holy Ghost and that He would give His people power that came from another world! Acts 1:8 You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. (NKJV) God is more interested in who you be than in what you do because if who you be ain t right then what you do ain t gonna be right! 7
Mark 16:17-18 17 These signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover. (NKJV) The power of the Holy Ghost is sufficient for any situation that you face or any problem that arises! John 14:12 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. (NKJV) The Holy Ghost gives you the power to do what Jesus did and more! 8
3. (cont d) 9
11 Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. (NLT) This church is filled with and such were some of you folks who have been changed by the Holy Ghost! Galatians 5:16-21 16 Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, (cont d) 10
21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. (NKJV) Sinfulness comes naturally but holiness comes supernaturally by the power of the Holy Ghost! Hebrews 12:14...work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. (NLT) Holiness is something we focus on knowing that one day it will be worth it all as we stand before our Savior! 11
