PAGE TWO YÜÉÅ à{x ctáàéüëá Wxá~ Our parish Lenten program changes location and focus this week. On Monday, February 29 th we will meet at St. Maria Goretti Parish at 7:00pm for a Taizé prayer service. Taize is an ecumenical monastic community located in Taize, France and was founded by Brother Roger Schu tz. A traditional aspect of Taize prayer is the repetitive, chanting music that is used to facilitate meditation (one of the most well-known Taize chants is Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom ). Personally, I believe it is a very beautiful and calming style of prayer and with the busy lives we lead, who would not want to have some time to calm down and rest in God s presence? So, please make plans to join us for this service on Monday. We will then return to St. Beatrice the following Monday (March 7 th ) and begin a different DVD by Bishop Barron: Seven Deadly Sins / Seven Lively Virtues. During this Lenten season let us also remember our 8 th grade Religious Ed. students who are preparing for the sacrament of Con irmation. This coming Saturday, March 5 th they will participate in a Con irmation retreat, and will then be presented to the parish at the 5pm Mass. Please pray for them, their sponsors, and their families as they prepare for this important sacrament. And speaking of prayers, it s good to remember that the best prayer we can offer for any person is the holy sacri ice of the Mass, which is why Mass intentions have long been a part of Catholic tradition. The Mass can be offered for any person, Catholic or non-catholic, living or dead (it is a common misconception that Mass can only be offered for a deceased person). Our 2016 parish Mass book is open, and you are welcome to request Mass intentions for weekends, weekdays, holy days and holidays (the traditional donation for a Mass is $10). Please call or stop by the rectory to offer the great sacri ice of the Mass for your loved ones. I also want to pass on some good news from Fr. Paul Raj. If you remember, Fr. Paul helped here at St. Beatrice on the weekends for some time, and he returned to his home country of India in January, 2015. Before he left, we as a parish took up a collection for his village to build a new church. He recently sent me a photo of the church s construction, and I ve pasted it below. He asked me to express his gratitude to the people of St. Beatrice for you generosity in helping make this church building possible. Finally, in this Leap Year I want to wish a Happy Birthday, Anniversary, etc. to anyone who has a special celebration on Feb. 29 th you get to really celebrate it this year! St. Beatrice, pray for us. May God bless you. Fr. Rob

PAGE THREE. Are you interested in inquiring about becoming a deacon for the Archdiocese of Chicago? Please join the Institute for Diaconal Studies on Sunday, March 6, at St. Philip Apostle in Northfield to celebrate the Eucharist at the 11:45 a.m. Mass, followed by Exploring the Diaconate session from 1-2 p.m. Directors of the Institute will welcome you and discuss all aspects of the archdiocese s deacon formation program, include application requirements and all elements of the formation journey. Wives of potential applicants are welcome and urged to attend as well. For more information contact Deacon Bob Puhala, bpuhala@usml.edu or 847-837-4564. Rest in Peace It is a holy and wholesome thought that we pray for the dead. Please remember Anna Grelitsch in your prayers. Liturgy Notes Throughout Lent, please join in singing: Sanctus, Sanctus (Holy Holy) #178 On page 201. Lord s Prayer, #27 page #32 Agnus Dei ( Lamb of God), #183, page #203 February 28: Third Sunday of Lent In today s Gospel Jesus is quite clear in his message: bear fruit or be cut down. This Lent we are called to cultivate and fertilize our spiritual lives through prayer, fasting and almsgiving. They came through a leader, Moses, who was once plucked from the Nile River and was now herding his father-in-law s sheep in the land of Goshen. The bush that burned but was not consumed shows us that God is inexhaustible mystery. Moses awe and deference are mixed with a touching conversational tone as he seeks to learn God s name. And God sweetly responds. The somewhat abstract I AM distinguishes the God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob from the minor gods in the territory who are not. They are helpless, powerless, and useless. Moses is to step out into an amazing future, and God will be there with outstretched arm. Just go and see, God seems to say. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.

This year we had approximately 400 people at the south side party which was held at St. Thomas More Church and 601 people at the north side party which was held at Our Lady of Victory Church. Due to your generosity, each child received a gift of clothing and a toy. For many of these families, this was their only Christmas celebration. The Women s Center could not provide these parties without people like you who are living examples of Christ s love for the poor. May God bless you greatly for caring so much for His littlest ones! What We re Learning 1st Grade We learned that Lent is a six week period in which we prepare ourselves to celebrate Jesus resurrection at Easter. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Thursday evening. On Ash Wednesday the priest will trace the sign of the cross on our foreheads with ashes to remind us that we are on earth a short time and that our true home is in heaven, so the ashes remind us not to be worried about material things, but to be worried about our souls which will live forever. 2 nd Grade We completed our study of the Sacrament of Reconciliation learning about Absolution, Contrition, and the Seal of Confession. We learned how Mary, the Mother of Jesus shows us how to live our lives in a way pleasing to God by loving, praising, and following him, in the example that she gave us.
