Prv 31:10-13, 19-20, 30-31; Ps 128:1-5; 1 Thes 5:1-6; Mt 25:14-30 November 19th, 2017 New Liturgical Year Begins on the First Sunday of Advent, December 3rd... AND THUS, a new Gospel for the year Gospel of Mark by Fr. P.Bosque SYMBOLS of the GOSPELS As is true for ALL Christian/Catholic art, there is nothing official as a source. If there were, it would limit the theological, spiritual, ecclesiastical, emotional, meaning and significance of the art, symbol, or depiction. For example, while the cross and crucifix (a cross with Christ's Body depicted as He was crucified) are emblematic of the Church's belief in the sacrificial offering of Himself for the salvation of all, there is no official prescription about how the body should be crucified, the placement of the Lord's head, the direction of His gaze, posture of hands, etc., etc. Art inspires and teaches a MYSTERY, which has always meant, means, and shall mean, the teaching/meaning of the art cannot be limited by an authoritative definition of that artistic symbol... Historically, and Traditionally (capitalization indicates a defined truth of God for His Church), while many gospels have been written, four Gospels are inspired, and are believed by the Catholic Church (and all Faiths that identify as Christian) to be God's Revealed Word about Jesus Christ: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. This order in the Bible was originally determined by an assumption in the 5 th century that this order of books was the order when they were composed, which we now know to be wrong Mark was the first Gospel written. From the earliest period of Church history (the first 500 years), also called the Patristic Period, these Gospels have been associated with four symbols. While different Gospels have been associated with different symbols, there has been unanimity (agreement) on only four symbols, and these earliest sources are also almost in complete agreement so to which Gospel they are associated. These symbols are based in the Old Testament, primarily Ezekiel: 1:1-14, wherein there is a description of a vision of four heavenly creatures, Book of the Kells, circa 850 a.d. arranged according to the compass thus alluding to a universal vision, looking everywhere with four faces and four wings, depicting a man, lion, ox, eagle; Ezekiel 10:14, with a royal vision of the angelic hosts of heaven with four faces each: an ox, a man, a lion, and an eagle; and a nearly identical listing found in Revelations 4: 6-7).... more to follow...

Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." - Ma hew 19:14 Do you love children? Are you hungry for a way to serve in our parish? Have you been searching for a way to give back to others, to lighten someone's load, to make another woman s life just a li le bit easier? Walking With Purpose is a women's Catholic Bible Study offered in our parish on Thursdays at 9am. We are seeking to build our Child Care Ministry to make our program more accessible to mothers at home with young children. We are praying for a few women to serve once a week in our nursery. The Child Care Ministry helps with setup and cleanup, Bible story me, snacks, and indoor play. This beau ful opportunity will allow the mothers of our parish the me to receive the love and care they so very much need given to them through the wri en Word of Christ and the fellowship of other women in our parish. Your YES to this role will be the answer to a mother's prayer! All that is needed is an outpouring of love for children and a desire to build up God s Kingdom by serving the ones that heaven belongs to! Perfect for older moms who miss holding their babies, homeschooled teens and college-aged young adults looking for service hours, or the seasoned mother who can recall those "in the trenches" years and would love to reach out and help! Saint Therese Academy 2017 Adopt A Student St. Therese Academy works to build a Catholic Christian foundation through which each child can realize his or her potential. The school supports each student in becoming a faith-filled Catholic, a lifelong learner, an effective communicator and a responsible individual. Through the Adopt A Student program, we aim to make this Christ-centered education possible for all, regardless of financial circumstance. Last year, your generous contributions provided financial assistance for 40 students! These students would not have been able to attend STA without your support. Please consider making a year-end gift to the Adopt A Student program. Donation cards are available in the pews during mass on November 18 19. Checks can be made payable to STA and mailed or delivered to the parish office at 6016 Camino Rico, San Diego, CA 92120. All donations are tax-deductible and your gift will be personally acknowledged.
