2012/13 ISC Programme The ISC offers a varied programme of events, courses and retreats grounded in the Ignatian spiritual tradition. A full programme is offered in the Centre and, subject to availability, the ecumenical team is also available to tailor events, courses and retreats for delivery in a local setting. A welcoming space in the heart of the city In addition to the event programme, the team offers one-to-one spiritual accompaniment for those seeking to explore the spiritual life and those wanting to go deeper in their spiritual journey. Day & Evening Events Include themed inputs, prayer workshops, space for creative reflection and gentle sharing and listening. Some events are offered as a series, others are standalone or drop-in events and some may serve as an introduction to the longer courses and programmes we offer. We can consider offering/adapting some items from our events programme to deliver in a local setting. Some of our events are offered on a drop-in basis (see events section for details). For other events and courses, places need to be booked in advance. Booking forms are available on-line or by contacting our administrative secretary. Courses The ISC offers a foundational course aimed at deepening personal experience of prayer, relationship with God and living out that relationship in everyday life and the world. We also offer short courses. This year, a retreat style course based on the wisdom of saints Benedict and Ignatius. Also a follow-up course for those wanting to reflect on their experience of making the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises (see course section for details). Retreats Although the ISC itself is non-residential, the ISC team offer a variety of retreats in residential settings in Scotland. Themed weekend taster retreats are offered for those wanting to dip their toes into a first retreat experience. For those who are familiar with retreats, a number residential and non-residential silent individually guided retreats are offered with accompaniment by members of the ISC team. Retreats in Daily Life These retreats offer a time of being accompanied one-to-one over a number of days or weeks a chance to try out new ways of praying and explore where God is drawing us towards life. Offered in the Centre or can be arranged locally. In between an opening and closing group meeting, each participant meets regularly with a prayer companion. Exploring Life & Prayer Groups A series of meetings exploring ways of praying and reflecting on life based on our in-centre courses. These can be offered on request locally to small or large groups with themes to suit such as praying with Scripture, God in our daily life, discernment, desires and decision making.

Praying with the Art and Inspiration of Sieger Koder...a day with Magdalen Lawler snd, opening up the art of Sieger Koder as an inspiration for prayer and reflection Saturday 22nd June 2013 10:30pm-4:30pm Just Call Me Lopez...based on her a recently published book of the same title Margaret Silf will lead us on a journey of discovery into the real heart of the man we know as St. Ignatius Loyola Suggested donation 30 ( 25). Includes buffet lunch Spiritual Direction/Accompaniment One to one spiritual accompaniment is available for anyone who wishes to have a companion or 'soul friend' come alongside on their spiritual journey for a time. The team and trained Associates of the Centre offer one-to-one Spiritual Accompaniment. If you would like to arrange a meeting or find out more about it please contact us. Suggested donation: 25 Ignatian Spiritual Exercises in Daily Life The full Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius Loyola are a creative and flexible programme of prayer and reflection centred on the life of Christ. The person who receives the Exercises is encouraged to open themselves generously to God and move into a deeper affective and active relationship with God and the world. This programme can be made residentially over 30 days or in daily life lasting between 7 & 12 months with weekly meetings with a spiritual director. The ISC offers the possibility of making the Exercises in daily life. Please contact us for details (or for information on where you can make a 30 day retreat). ISC Day & Evening Events Unless otherwise indicated, full day events run from 10:30am to 4:30pm and evening events run from 7:00pm to 9:00pm Regular drop-in... No specific donation is requested for drop-in events, just what is affordable. Film nights are free with a donation towards coffee/tea welcome. For other events, see donations section on back page. Taizé Evenings A spacious hour to pray with Taizé chants interspersed with periods of silence. 3rd Monday of the month (7:30-8:30pm) commencing September 19th. First Friday Retreat Space Peaceful mornings for reflection with some gentle input, quiet space and use of the Centre facilities including chapel, quiet rooms and art materials. 1st Friday of the month (10am-1pm) commencing Friday 5th October Eat, Pray, Breathe A quiet spacious half hour each Tuesday lunchtime to pause, reflect and pray supported by gentle meditative music and some inspirational words of poetry/scripture. Coffee and tea is available before and after for those who wish to bring their lunch. Every Tuesday 1:00-1:30 from 2nd October (except July/August) Carers Renewal Afternoons A gentle afternoon for carers to receive refreshment: space to rest, reflect and be renewed. Last of Tuesday the month 1:30pm-4pm from October 30th (except July/August) FREE Taster Day! Saturday 6th October This day will offer opportunity to see where we are and to taste some of the different things we offer in the centre themed and creative workshops, experiential reflective space and opportunity for informal conversation. OCTOBER 2012 Film Night An evening to watch a stimulating, inspiring film in the company of others with optional space afterwards for reflection and conversation. Friday 12th October 7pm-9:30pm Encountering God in Music & Poetry Opportunity to become more attuned to God s presence both in ourselves and the world around us. Let poetry and music nourish your spirit and open a doorway to prayer. Saturday 27th October (full day). NOVEMBER 2012 Sustaining the Spirit in the Workplace An afternoon with a some topical input, room for discussion, opportunity for personal quiet/reflection and conversation with others seeking to live with integrity in the workplace. Additional afternoons may be offered if further interest is shown. Saturday 10th November (afternoon 2pm- DECEMBER 2012 ADVENT 1: Advent Mystery in Painting & Poetry with guest Magdalen Lawler snd A day to become present to the mystery of Advent through paintings and poetry with space for reflection and gentle sharing. Saturday 1st December (full day) ADVENT2: BBC s Nativity A chance to watch the BBC s acclaimed 2011 adaptation of the story of the birth of Jesus with opportunity for informal conversation afterwards for those who wish. Sunday 9th December 2:30pm 5pm

ADVENT 3: Resting as One in the Womb of the World We will connect to the wonder of the great web of life and our place within it through input, film and image. Space for creative reflection will be offered to help us touch into and draw inspiration from God s creation and its capacity to birth new possibilities and potential. Saturday 15th December (full day) MARCH 2013 Lent 2: Journeying to Jesus in Lent with guest Magdalen Lawler snd He became as we are and was humbler yet - a day to journey to the heart of Jesus by means of paintings, scripture and poetry. Saturday 2nd March (full day) LENT 3: My Kingdom is not of this World with guest Zen Brayley Experience the humility and self-emptying love of Jesus as he journeys to hi s Passion. The day will include input on praying with icons, music, prayer and space for personal refection. Saturday 9th March (full day) JANUARY 2013 Film Night An evening to watch a stimulating, inspiring film in the company of others with optional space afterwards for reflection and conversation. Friday 11th January 7pm-9:30pm FEBRUARY 2013 Lent Retreat in Daily Life This retreat runs over seven Monday evenings (Feb 11th March 25th) at the centre during Lent. After an initial group meeting, each person will meet with their prayer companion once a week. These meetings will be mostly evenings but some afternoon slots are available. Suggested donation: 70 Lenten Parish Retreat Evenings We are offering five facilitated retreat evenings at the centre through Lent specifically for parish groups. Please get in touch if your parish might be interested in sending a group for one of the evenings. Thursday evenings: 14th Feb/21st Feb/March 7th/March 14th/March 21st Donations can be negotiated LENT 1: Is Lent for Senior Years? A prayerful afternoon for The Lenten Season. We bring our wisdom and share our experience in a quiet reflective manner as we look at the seasons of our own life journey. All age groups welcome. Sunday 17th February 2:30pm 4:30pm APRIL 2013 Encountering God through the Feminine A day to explore creative ways of encountering God in and through the feminine for the greater wholeness of ourselves, humanity and the earth. Saturday 20th April (full day) MAY 2013 God, Creation & Human Becoming A spacious day to engage with the emerging stories of the Universe and humankind and reflect on how the Spirit of God is at work at this juncture in history named by some, the Great Turning. Saturday 11th May (full day) JUNE 2013 Being Human, Being Dancer with guests Melitta Bosworth & Katie Low "There is an eternal landscape, a geography of the soul; we search for its outlines all our lives." - Josephine Hart A day to explore the inner landscapes of the soul - using art/image making and contemplation to open up this changing terrain. No artistic expertise is required. Materials are provided. Saturday 1st June (full day) Film Night An evening to watch a stimulating, inspiring film in the company of others with optional space afterwards for reflection and conversation. ISC Courses Deepen your own faith experience or be resourced to share with others... Growth in Prayer & Reflective Living This course looks at different ways of praying and becoming aware of everyday life as full of resources to strengthen ourselves and others in our relationship with God. The course includes experience of different methods of prayer e.g., with Scripture (imaginative contemplation, Lectio Divina), daily life, pictures, icons, nature, the universe, personal life story, mantras etc. Different traditions of Christian prayer/spirituality e.g. Celtic, Ignatian, Benedictine. Exploration of aids to expressing prayer and fostering spiritual growth e.g. through art and writing. A beginning look at discernment and decision-making. And helping others in their spiritual journey. The course is open to all no expertise in prayer or reflection is required just a desire to know yourself and God more. It can also be an ideal experience for those who are growing in leadership roles in parish communities. Parishes or other groups may offer some subsidy for one or two parish members to participate. Tuesday evenings, 6:45pm to 9:15pm, 9th October 2012 21st May + 3 Saturdays (8th December / 23rd March / 25th May) Suggested donation: 340 ( 290) Food for Life s Journey: The Wisdom of Saints Benedict & Ignatius Loyola This is a retreat-style course with an emphasis on individual prayer. It invites participants to explore the wisdom of two great saints, Benedict (6th Century) and Ignatius of Loyola (15th Century). Through prayer and some guided reading, participants will have an opportunity to be nourished by their wisdom for life today. The course can be made in full or individual parts. Part 1: St. Benedict Part 2: St. Ignatius 8th October 2012 4th February 2013 (15 sessions) 18th February 2013 10th June 2013 (15 sessions) Weekly Monday evenings 7pm-9pm from 8th October 2012 to 10th June 2013. Suggested donation: 150 ( 130) per part or 280 ( 240) for both parts Becoming Love in Action This course comprises a series of nine sessions over the year for those who have made the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises. It offers opportunity to reflect on the experience of making the Exercises, be resourced to live out the fruit of that experience and be sustained through ongoing participation in a faith community. Evenings 1-3 offer space to reflect and share with others about the experience of making the Spiritual Exercises. Evenings 4-6 focus on practically living out the personal call of the Exercises. Evenings 7-9 explore how and where we find ongoing support from others to live out our call. 8 Thursday evening sessions 7pm 9pm (11th Oct/8th Nov/6th Dec/31st Jan/28th Feb/21st March/11th April/9th May) + closing Saturday (18th May) Suggested donation: 150 ( 130) Please note: it is possible to arrange to pay for all courses and retreats by instalment/standing Order. A dedicated bursary fund is also available for retreats and some courses. Please enquire if you need assistance with costs.

ISC Retreats Take time to pause and find space for quiet reflection and prayer... Residential Silent Retreats... Notre Dame Apostolic Centre, Skelmorlie 6-day retreat: 15th 22nd September 2012 The Notre Dame Apostolic Centre in Skelmorlie overlooks the Clyde and the Isle of Arran. Retreatants meet individually with their guide each day. As an aid to prayer and reflection, these retreats are held in silence. A maximum of 7 retreatants can be accommodated full board in single rooms. Suggested donation: 320 Catholic House of Prayer, Iona 6-day retreat: 20th 27th July 2013 A residential individually guided silent retreat accompanied by a member of the ISC team on the beautiful historic island of Iona. The Catholic House of Prayer provides full board residential accommodation in well appointed single rooms. Space for up to 5 retreatants. Suggested donation: 450 The Bield, Blackruthven A silent mid-week individually-guided retreat with members of the ISC team. Retreatants have access to The Bield s excellent facilities which include a chapel, art room, swimming pool, labyrinth and extensive grounds. Accommodation is in single rooms (max. 9) Arrivals from 4pm Tuesday 28th May finishing after breakfast Friday 31st May 2013 Suggested donation: 240 ISC, 35 Scott Street, Glasgow The guided retreats below are offered on a nonresidential basis at our centre. The retreat will include some themed input, space for quiet and creative reflection using the centre facilities and individual accompaniment meetings with a prayer guide. Tea/coffee, biscuits and fruit are provided but retreatants are asked to bring their own lunch. The retreats start at 10:30am on Saturday morning pausing at 4:30pm, and resume at 10:30am on Sunday morning finishing at 4:30pm on Sunday afternoon. The Xaverian Conforti Centre, Coatbridge A good introduction to a peaceful retreat experience with others without being completely silent. Cowcaddens Underground is approximatel5 mins walk. Please note Garnethill is a restricted parking area. The nearest public car park is located in Cambridge Street. Donations towards costs To help cover costs, the ISC suggests a donation for events at the Centre. A lower offering is suggested in brackets for students and registered unemployed. However, some bursary support is available so please do not feel excluded for financial reasons do enquire if you need assistance with costs. Our usual suggestion is: 25 ( 20) full day event 15 ( 10) evening or half day event Some events may be higher to cover cost of staff, materials or similar.
