AAROC is a local chapter of the national Alfa Romeo Owner's Club and is dedicated to the enjoyment of Alfa Romeo Automobiles and the advancement of the Alfa Romeo marque. Subscription to this newsletter is included with membership to the national Alfa Romeo Owner's Club and expressed affiliation with the Arizona Chapter. Classifieds, contributions, and criticisms are welcome and should be addressed to the editor by mail, phone, or email. Technical information, data, or suggestions in this publication are the opinions of the contributing authors, and, as such, their accuracy or correctness cannot be warranted by AAROC or the national organization. All owners should determine the suitability of any modifications: the club will not assume liability for any consequences. Meetings General meetings are held the fourth Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM. The meetings are held at an appropriate Italian restaurant (see the latest newsletter or club website for details). Board meetings, open to all members at the discretion of the board, are held two weeks prior to the general meeting. Website The Arizona chapter now has a website located at: http://clubs.hemmings.com/azalfa/ The website contains general information about the club and a copy of the yearly events calendar. Happy New Year, Presidential Bondo (All the Filler Fit to Print) We have a terrific calendar this year with some new events added. Even our repeat events are often a variation on the theme. For instance, on the Bisbee overnight we will be visiting Colossal Cave in Benson on the way down. Another new event will be an overnight tour in early December. Each event has to have a chair-person to plan and make necessary reservations. It takes time to do this planning and sometimes difficulties arise due to unforeseen conflicts. So the chair-persons have to make decisions to facilitate the event, working around the conflicts, making it a success for us. I want to thank the chair-persons for volunteering their efforts to make these events come about. The new events include the Chili Cook-off, Tovrea Castle, and the Bisbee & Colossal Cave Tour. Bisbee is not new, but I believe Colossal Cave is new. If not new, then it has been many years since we stopped there. All of the events are on our calendar on the website. These include the Alfa Lady s High Tea, Tortilla Flats, Chili Cook Off, Gilbert Museum, Laughlin Overnight, Indy Party, Tonto Bridge, AROC National Convention, Mystery Car Museum, Ricks Breakfast Run, Martin Museum, Tovrea Castle, Alpine Overnight, Progressive Dinner, and Bisbee & Colossal Cave. The particulars will be forth coming as the eventchairs have the details to provide and they will post them on the website. Oct 12 Alpine Overnight Organizer Mark Kirchner Nov 9 Progressive Dinner Organizer Bob DeMarco Dec 7 Bisbee & Colossal Cave Benson, AZ Organizers Joseph Frischknecht & Mark Kirchner Ciao Mark Thanks to everyone who put in so much work to organize the calendar of events for the coming year. Get these items on your calendar and try to attend as many as possible. We have a very active club, with lots of different things for you to get involved in. You only get out of the club what you put into it. Do not forget that we have a monthly meeting from January through October on the fourth Wednesday of the month. Make sure you come to the meetings so you can keep up on everything that the club is doing. Active Rumors/Notes from the Editor If I was going to put a headline at the top of this column for this month, it would read Alfas Dominate Gita Rally. The Gita, organized by the Arizona chapter of Fiat Lancia Unlimited, is a January 1 scavenger hunt that culminates in a great lunch and lots of camaraderie. Points are earned for properly interpreting the clues provided, and then either rounding up the items being described, such as a cup from McDonalds, or taking a picture of the place that you were directed to go. It is quite fun and can be challenging to properly decipher all of the clues. For the 2013 event, Alfa club members or Alfa drivers took the four top spots in the rally. Scott McPherson, whose Montreal is on the front of the newsletter, took first place with his very capable assistant Patricia. Denise and I came in second. Jay and Carol Fuller finished third. In fourth was a couple in an Alfa Spider. Not a bad showing at all. I am writing this just as car auction week is coming to a close. I do not yet have the results of Alfas that sold at the auctions, but I will do a report in the next issue of The Rumor. A sampling of the cars that can be seen at La Bellezza D Italia on February 23. Also, do not forget La Bellezza D Italia on February 23. You have three ways to participate. One is to enter your Italian car. Even better, enter your car and then help Jay Fuller put on the event. There are always jobs that need to be filled. At a minimum, come to the event and invite your friends. All it will cost you is a can of food, or other non-perishable item that will go to St. Mary s Food Bank. Rick Mahrle YOUR AD HERE Classified ads for Alfas and Alfa parts are still free for members. Just email your ad and any photos to me at rmahrle@gblaw.com.
