Creekside Church of the Brethren May 30, 2010, 9:30 a.m. PRELUDE Shout to the Lord *GATHERING MUSIC (9:25 a.m.) Insert No. 69 (Renew) WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS OPENING PRAYER Darlene Zschech Arr. Jerry Ray Shout to the Lord Great Are You Lord Mary Lou Martin *CALL TO WORSHIP All: All creation sings a song of praise. Leader: The birds chirp gladness, the poppies dance joy, All: All creation praises God. Men: The ocean sparkles, dolphins leap, whales play. All: All creation joins in praise. Women: The mountains clap their hands, the trees wave, the sun blesses. All: All creation sings a song. Leader: Look deeply, All: God's choir is singing, raise your voice. *INVOCATION (Unison) Spirit of the Living God, we give you thanks and praise for the intricacies of creation, for your tender care for all things, and for the gifts of community we experience in this place. Break open our hearts once again with the power of your love and the surprises of unexpected grace. In our lives, in our church, in our worship, may you be glorified. Amen. *OPENING HYMN NO. 37 (Blue) Praise to the Lord, the Almighty CHILDREN S MESSAGE (sing Praise Him, Praise Him as children come forward) SEEK, CELEBRATE, SHARE A time to Seek Guidance, Celebrate God & Share Joys & Concerns PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE INVITATION TO OFFERING Teach us, good Lord, to serve you as you deserve: to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labor and not to ask for any reward, save that of knowing that we do your will. Saint Ignatius of Loyola. Offertory Old Hundredth David H. Hegarty *Response No. 119 (Blue) Praise God from Whom *Prayer of Dedication Lord God, we bring our gifts with thanksgiving. May our resources enrich and renew the church, and may we share the Good News today and every day. Amen. (The Preschoolers are dismissed to the nursery.) OLD TESTAMENT READING Psalm 148 HYMN (Insert) Ancient Words NEW TESTAMENT READING Acts 11:1-18 SERMON Living Praise Yvonne Riege *HYMN NO. 546 (Blue) Guide My Feet *BENEDICTION POSTLUDE You ve Got Mail God never intended God's boundaries to be less than the whole world. Therefore, none of us have a monopoly on God's love. We may feel like we do when we look down on someone different than we are... or when we say, "Thank you, Lord, that I am not like them," or "It's too bad they do not believe as we believe." But woe to us when we reek of such arrogance! For when we try to restrict God's grace to ourselves, we cut ourselves off from that very grace. Pierre Teilhard de Chardin said, "It is impossible to love Christ without loving others, and impossible to love others without moving nearer to Christ." (John K. Bergland, Love without Limits) PRAYER HYMN NO. 223 (Renew) Soften My Heart *Please stand as you are able. Bulletins may be recycled in the baskets located in gathering area.
