THE JOURNEY CHURCH SUMMER MISSIONS HELP REACH NEW YORK CITY FOR JESUS JourneyNYC.com/MissionTeams

BRING A MISSION TEAM TO NYC NEXT SUMMER! This is Kerrick Thomas from The Journey Church in NYC. I lead The Journey s largest location in the heart of Manhattan, and I d like to invite you to bring a mission team from your church to serve with us in New York City next summer the summer of 2017! Think about it... what if your church decided to take a break from the same-old same-old missions trips that you have been on so many times and instead changed lives in the most influential city in the world! During the day, you and your team would be working with us to reach the people of NYC for Jesus Christ by showing God s love in a practical way. We call it Servant Evangelism. Imagine for a moment if your team was: Helping our church impact the lives of Wall Street professionals by praying for them, serving them breakfast, and providing information about Jesus and His church right on Wall Street. Serving the people of NYC in Central Park. They come out to exercise and relax on a hot summer day, and we provide free water bottles. When they ask why, we tell them about Jesus and our church in a non-threatening but highly impactful way. Showing people Jesus love in creative and practical ways on the Upper West Side, Upper East Side and across the Village in the afternoon. Enjoying all that NYC has to offer in the evening: Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Yankees or Mets games, Broadway shows, great restaurants and more great museums than anywhere else on the planet! Not only would your church have a blast but you d make a huge impact together. After a great summer this year, our team is already working on putting together a life-changing (but surprisingly inexpensive) missions opportunity for your church next summer. Inside this packet you will find all the details you need to begin planning your mission trip to NYC.

SAMPLE DEVOTIONAL We ll provide your team with four devotionals that you can use while your team serves in New York City. When we have a relationship with Jesus, we all have a calling. The reason that we are here in New York City this week passing out granola bars and invite cards to people as they head to work and walk around the city is that calling. So what is that calling? Our answer is in Matthew 28. Here is what it says: Then Jesus came to them and said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:18-20 (NLT) Our calling is to not hold our faith in but to TELL OTHERS about the saving grace of Jesus. We are here in New York City because there are people all around the world that live in this city. If someone here starts a relationship with Jesus they could have family in Los Angeles, London, Dubai, and China. What an awesome way to reach the world. We have talked this week about why we are passing out granola bars. These invite cards have led to lots of people come to church for the first time and to meet Jesus for the first time. Nearly one-third of the baptisms at The Journey have come from these invite cards. But here is another point from this verse: it does not say to share our faith only when we are on mission trips. Our calling to share Jesus is a daily one. That means when we are back home, at work, school, the grocery store, etc., we are supposed to be sharing our faith daily with those around us. So here is the question for tonight: What can we do at home that would help invite people to our church? In New York City, it is a granola bar and invite card, but back home it could be. Action steps: Talk about ideas Pray over ideas Challenge group to continue to think about ideas

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What will my mission team be doing? Each team will be doing Servant Evangelism for the entirety of the trip. You will be showing God s love to thousands in NYC by simply giving away free bottles of water or granola bars, along with invite cards to The Journey. Close to a third of the 2,000 people we have baptized at our church trace the first steps of their spiritual journey to an SE outreach! How long is the mission trip? The trip is normally from Saturday Friday. There will be a time of orientation (led by Journey staff) on the Sunday of your arrival, after you ve had the chance to attend one of The Journey s service. Projects will be scheduled Monday Thursday, then you will be able to enjoy a free day in the city on Friday. What are the housing options for my team? Our staff will direct you in contacting some excellent and affordable housing options for your team. There are a few mission house locations in NYC and the surrounding areas that are available on a first-come, first-served basis at an extremely affordable rate. Will there be an orientation for my team? Yes. After attending a service on the Sunday of your arrival, our staff will lead an orientation that will give you everything you need to know for your time in the city. You and your team will also be able to ask any questions you might have during this time. How long is each day of the mission trip? There will be three to four servant evangelism projects projects scheduled on Monday Thursday. The projects will start at approximately 8:30am and will end no later than 4:00pm. Your evenings will be open to enjoy the city! What about the cost? Each person on your team is responsible for paying The Journey Church $350 for the cost of ministry supplies. Your team will be reaching thousands through Servant Evangelism! Therefore, a large amount of supplies (granola bars, bottles of water, invite cards) are needed. What else is my team responsible for paying? In addition to the $350 per person for ministry supplies, your team is responsible for arranging travel to and from the city and booking housing. You will also have to consider costs for food, city transportation (a weekly MetroCard), and any leisure activities. We can direct you on your best options.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS When are our team costs due? A $500 deposit is due to secure your team s dates on our calendar. Then, half of your total team costs for ministry supplies will be due two months prior to your trip date. The final costs for your team will be due one month prior to your team's arrival. How many people should be on my mission team? We can work with teams of any size! If you have a small team (five or less people), we may combine you with another team. Or if you have a large team (more than 30 people), we may split you into two groups. How will my team travel during our time in NYC? On the bus and subway! Each person can purchase a seven-day unlimited ride pass for just $32. Where will we do our Servant Evangelism projects? All projects will be outdoors at parks, squares, and other busy locations around Manhattan (Wall Street, Central Park, etc.). Is NYC a safe place? Absolutely! All of your Servant Evangelism projects will be at busy and safe locations that have been approved by The Journey staff. Anything special that my team should bring? Comfortable shoes, a bag to carry any belongings, and rain gear just in case. Will my team have time to do some sightseeing? Definitely. Your team will have free time every evening during the week, and all day Friday, to have fun as a team in NYC! Which dates can I choose from? Any week during the summer (Saturday or Sunday through Friday or Saturday). What s my next step for scheduling a mission trip? Contact Mark Edington at mark@journeynyc.com or 212-730-8300 x212 to discuss dates for bringing your team here, and figure out the next best steps to make it happen! We want this to be a trip your team never forgets!
