Middle East Institute Arabic 103 Beginners III Syllabus Instructor Name: E-mail: Phone: MEI Phone: MEI Email: Purpose of the Course To enable students to further consolidate their reading and writing skills in Modern Standard Arabic (the language of radio, television, and newspapers throughout the Arab World), as well as to enable them to communicate with native speakers of Arabic on more a wide range of elementary topics. Requirements 1. Regular class attendance and handing in homework assignments. Regular attendance and class participation accounts for 20% of the final grade. Completing homework assignments and preparation accounts for 25% of the final grade. In addition to the drills that are assigned from the text book, students should always expect assignments given in handouts. Preparation before class is extremely important for being able to follow the class. 2. Midterm exam to be given at the end of the fourth week of classes (25%). 3. Final exam to be given at the end of the course (35%). 4. Students must use the DVDs corresponding to the material offered in the classroom.
