THE OUTREACH Mt. Sinai Baptist Church April 2014 The Greatest Story Ever Told We all know the story of Easter and can agree that it was the greatest story ever told. During Easter season, Jesus made the biggest sacrifice for us and it is important for us to understand the reason why he did it. God knew that we were all born sinners and that is why he sent his son Jesus to teach us some lessons before the ultimate sacrifice was made. Jesus was sent to be a preacher, teacher, and healer for God s people. In the bible, he had been preparing his disciples for his death. On Palm Sunday, Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey. People were shouting, Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest! The chief priests and elders of the people began to come up with a plot to kill Jesus, but they needed an inside man. Judas, one of Jesus' disciples, went to the chief priests and offered his services in handing over Jesus to them. They offered him 30 pieces of silver and Judas accepted. He went back to wait for the right time to hand over Jesus. It was time for the Last Supper so Jesus and his disciples were in the upper room. He told them that all of them will abandon him once he is delivered to the people. Peter will deny him three times and that one of them will betray him. Every disciple asked, Is it I? Once Judas spoke up, Jesus confirmed that it will be Judas. He took the bread and wine, blessed it, and said, Do this in remembrance of me. Inspiration A man who was completely innocent, offered himself as a sacrifice for the good of others including his enemies, and became the ransom of the world. It was a perfect act. Gandhi They went to the Mount of Olives and Jesus began to pray to his father, If you could, please take this cup away from me, not my will but yours be done. After Jesus finished praying, Judas came and kissed Jesus, which was the signal to the officers that this was the man. They took him to the Sanhedrin, but he found no fault with him. Then they took him before Pilate and he found no fault with Jesus, but the crowd wanted him crucified. So Pilate brought out a criminal and said, Which one would you like me to release? They yelled, Barabbas, the criminal. They took Jesus and had him beaten and made him carry his cross to Calvary. Then they crucified him and while on the cross Jesus said to his father, Lord forgive them, they know not what they do. Jesus gave up the spirit and died. They took him and buried him in a tomb, but on the third day Jesus rose from the grave. The people were excited about the return of Jesus. However, the interesting thing is the same people who were yelling, Hosanna were the same people who were yelling, Crucify him. No matter what state of life Jesus was in there was always something to learn from the situation. This story of Easter has taught us a lesson that we as Christians are still learning today. The same ones that are giving you praise could be the same ones that bring you down to your demise. Jesus shows us that no matter what people say or do to you keep doing what God called you to do. If you fall down with God, you can rise just like Jesus. Submitted by MG In This Issue The Greatest Story Ever Told Biblical Humor Birthdays Upcoming Events and more!
