Kealey Knight Letter SERVING THE KNIGHTS OF GREATER OCEAN VIEW Volume 51, Issue 1 Grand Knight s Desk K n i g h t s o f C o l u m b u s C o u n c i l # 3 5 4 8 B e s t i n t h e S o u t h October 2013 Vol 51 Issue 4 Dear Brother Knights and Family, Another month has come and gone and now we are in October. The weather is beginning to change and football is on everyone s mind. Thanks to everyone that helped and participated in the Labor Day Picnic and the 1st Sunday Breakfast. A special thanks to DGK Bill Duncan for heading up the food and cooking for both events. A lot of work went into preparing for the events and everyone had a great time. And thanks to all that showed for the IP everyone had a great time, especially Carl Lee. Welcome to our newest members: Zach Duncan and Pete Wellman Jr. who completed their 1st Degree at the last meeting and have already gotten their 2nd and 3rd Degrees. Our Knight of the Month for September was PGK Ward Holmes and it couldn t have gone to a more deserving person for all the things that he does behind the scenes for the hall. Don t forget your Football Frenzy tickets they will be on sale by all the council officers until Oct 4th. Bingo continues to have difficulties and we are looking for helpers that can commit to a Bingo Team. Bingo is the primary source of income for the council and this is considered an all hands effort. If Bingo is in trouble, then the Council is in trouble. If you can help out one night every 5 weeks for a few hours, we would love to have you. Please see one of the Bingo Managers: PGK Ed Lambe, PGK Bill Dewey, or PGK Ken Wiley, or myself. October brings lots of opportunity to excel for the council so keep your eye on the council calendar. Keep in your prayers: Fr. McGivney, our troops, and all the sick and/or in distress Brothers and family. Go to mass often and pray the rosary. Why? Because as Catholic gentlemen, that s just what we do! Upcoming Events for October: Oct 6th: Doughnuts after 9am Mass for Recruitment Oct 14th: Open House Presentation for Recruitment and Insurance Oct 15th: Special Meeting with 1st Degree Oct 20th: Sunday Breakfast 9-11am Oct 25th: Weenie Roast Oct 26th: 4th Degree Exemplification in Va. LOTKA News It was great to have so many of our ladies in attendance at our first LOTKA meeting of the year. We welcomed two new members and encourage everyone to invite others to join us. Our new Grand Knight, Pat Nash joined us to let us know what his plans are for the upcoming year and we agreed to help him in whatever way we can. We made up our new calendar of events for the 2013-2014 year and we have a couple of new speakers planned already, as well as our tried and true speakers and activities. Plan to join us next month on Thursday, October 3rd. Here is our list so far: October Christina Maniscalco, will do a Pampered Chef party with 20% of the proceeds going to our treasury. She will make a S mores dessert during the presentation. And there are many new items that would make great Christmas presents for someone on your list. All are asked to start bringing canned goods for the Thanksgiving baskets that the club will provide for 50 families in our community. November Deputy Commonwealth Attorney Linda Bryant will enlighten our group about the outreach office called the Community Collaborative Center in Wards Corner and how it serves the community. Be thinking of what we can do as our Christmas Outreach this year. In the last couple of years, we have helped out a family and it has proven to be very successful. December You don t want to miss our ANNUAL Chinese Auction and potluck dinner for our Christmas party. This meeting will begin at 6:30 so that we can eat early. January Everyone enjoys our Soup and Bingo night. Many of the ladies are generous enough to make soup, or bring bread/rolls/butter to share with the group and we will again follow-up with our Bingo games. February Death by Chocolate desserts and whatever else you would like to share. No speaker yet. (Any ideas??) March We are hoping to once again have our landscaper friend, Mr. Oz come to share gardening tips with us as spring approaches. April We are working on having a financial consultant who often works with older women to offer tips on how to better manage their finances (Still in the planning stages). We will also bring candy and plastic eggs to fill for our children s Easter Egg Hunt. May Still waiting for a suggestion on a speaker??? June Dinner at a restaurant. As you can see, we are still in need of speakers or topics for February and May. Think of something you would like to know more about and we will work on finding someone who can visit us to talk about it, thanks. There are many events that the men are planning that we can join in with. Check the calendar in the hall or Knight s letter for dates. Laura Reese Thanksgiving Baskets Thanksgiving is Approaching. Through the generosity of Brother Matt Hales, we once again have 50 turkeys to anchor our annual dinner give a way. But once again we are looking to our fellow brothers, to help get the rest of the ingredients assembled. Please bring your donations to the Seluga Room, so we may complete this annual task.
