A Special Message from our Pastor 18 years. As I begin to reflect on these last 18 years of ministry, I must say that the Lord has proven that He can do anything When I arrived here on September 8, 1996 to preach for the first time as pastor, the Lord revived His promise, I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU NOR FORSAKE YOU As He said He would do, He has done. Over these last 18 years, the Lord has allowed me to be a vessel of hope to those who come through the doors of this ministry and I can only say THANK YOU!! Thank you God for trusting me and thank you MSBC for receiving me. 18 years For 118 years, this church has been a beacon of light for this community and for 18 years the Lord has shown me that His plan for this ministry is still being realized. We are a ministry that believes in BUILDING AND REBUILDING the lives of those who are open to the DIRECTION OF GOD. As we celebrate 18 years, it is only fitting that we celebrate the entire 118 years of the MORNING STAR BAPTIST CHURCH, a church that is SERIOUS ABOUT SALVATION. 18 years There are so many persons who have allowed these 18 years to be so productive with the promise of even greater days ahead Persons who are gone but not forgotten, who showed me and who reminded me TO KEEP PRESSING FORWARD; persons like Nettie Page, Eva Brooks, Earl Debnam and Thomas Ramsey just to name a few. I am looking forward to another 18 years of building and rebuilding lives. 18 years So much of what we do could only be done with the support of persons who believe in the vision and are committed to working to bring it to pass. I want every member and friend of this ministry to know that you are so appreciated for working with me to do ministry. To my staff and every person who serves here at MSBC, you are a pleasure to serve with. To our officers, leaders and workers of every ministry, your labor is not taken lightly. 18 years I must say that what allows me to do what I do is having a family who does not envy ministry but supports ministry. I celebrate the Debnam family for joining me in serving the people of Morning Star. I say this often but I feel it is worth repeating, membership will never understand the sacrifices that you make to make sure that what God wants done is never hindered, only supported. Corey, Jewell, Jared, Courtney and of course Lady Carla, thank you for serving, for giving and for loving me enough to walk with me as we offer ministry to the people of MSBC!! Looking forward to the next 18!!! We are a maturing, Christ- centered ministry building and rebuilding lives by connecting people to Jesus through discipleship, stewardship, relationship and fellowship.

Message from Elder Carla J. Debnam First Lady Thank you is too simple a phrase to let you know how grateful I am to be a part of the Morning Star family. I am proud of all your hard work over these past 18 years and know that you haven t seen your best days yet. Continue to be a watchman on the wall and a shepherd of God s people. You may never know how much you mean to so many who were hopeless but because of your ministry have the strength to rebuild their lives. My prayer for you is that you continue to seek God s face and follow in the path God has established for you to take. You are a wonderful husband, father and friend. Continue to strive for excellence and obedience in every area of your life. I am proud to walk alongside you in ministry. Happy 18 th Anniversary! With Love, Lady Carla J. Debnam

Anniversary Guest Preachers 7:30a.m. Worship Service Bishop Heber M. Brown II, Shiloh Baptist Church in Edgemere, Maryland Heber Marvin Brown II is the son of the late Bishop Heber Marvin Brown, Sr. and Beatrice Mae Anthony Brown. By virtue of the fact that he was nurtured in a strong and loving Christian family, he was led to learn at an early age in whom to place his trust. He was elected and consecrated the 1st Bishop of the Praise Covenant Interdenominational Fellowship on the twenty-second of July 2001 at the Shiloh Baptist Church of Baltimore County Maryland. "Study to show thyself approved..." These words have been taken seriously: * Morgan State University - B.S. in Business Administration, 1977 * Howard Divinity School - Master of Divinity, 1986 * United Theological Seminary - Doctor of Ministry, 1996 "The spirit of the Lord is upon me..." is reflected in the witness of Heber Marvin Brown, Jr. In 1986, he answered the call to pastor the Shiloh Baptist Church in Edgemere, Maryland. As God's undershepherd, he came to Shiloh with a visionary mission; and in 1997 after much prayer, struggle, and sacrifice; his vision became a reality when he and the people of God marched into a brand new sanctuary. In addition to pastoring Shiloh since May of 2000, Bishop Brown has taken on the charge of pastoring the Brown's Chapel Freewill Baptist Church of Newark, New Jersey. "Who will go for us? Here am I, send me..." is the living testimony of Heber Marvin Brown, Jr. During his ministerial career, he has served as Minister of Christian Education at the New Psalmist Baptist Church under the guidance of Dr. Walter S. Thomas, Bible instructor for various Bible Fellowships, facilitator of workshops, revivalist, and conference preacher. The Gospel is being proclaimed as he preaches and teaches throughout the United States. Bishop Brown has served as past president of the Baltimore County and Vicinity Ministerial Alliance of Maryland. As presiding prelate of the Praise Covenant Interdenominational Fellowship, Bishop Brown is committed to the synergistic fellowship of those churches and ministries, which comprise PCIF while recognizing the need for networking, accountability, fellowship, and resource sharing. He serves as presiding prelate/dean of the PCIF Ministers Institute. In January 2003, Bishop Brown was awarded The Fullwood Valued Hours Awards for his many years of generous and dedicated service benefiting diverse segments of the community while exemplifying the true spirit of caring and sharing. Bishop Brown is married to Jacqueline Anita Brown and is the father of five. His goal in ministry is to remain clay in the hands of the Potter that he may continue to be molded and used to the Glory of God. 9:30a.m. Worship Service Reverend Julian Rivera, Fulton Baptist Church, Maryland On Sunday, September 18 th, 2011, Reverend Julian Rivera was installed as the 6 th Pastor of Fulton Baptist Church. A God ordained union of Pastor and people,

their mission is to lead people to Christ, grow them in Christ, make them servants of Christ, in order to make a difference for Christ. Reverend Rivera is a son of the New Psalmist Baptist Church, where he served for 19 years under the leadership of Bishop Walter Thomas, Sr. Seven of those years he served on staff as the Minister of Congregational Care and then Minister of Discipleship. Reverend Rivera has a certificate in theology from St. Mary s Seminary. He is also a graduate of Maryland Bible College and Seminary with a Bachelor s Degree in Biblical Studies. Reverend Rivera is happily married for 20 years to his wife Sabrina. They have one daughter, Sarayna; and one son, Isaiah. 11:30a.m. Worship Service Dr. Karen Stanley Bethea, Set the Captives Free Outreach Center, Maryland Dr. Karen Stanley Bethea is a Wife, Mother, Friend, Author, Teacher, Psalmist, Recording Artist, and Senior pastor of Set the Captives Free Outreach Center. She is known for the deliverance mantle on her life. Under her anointed teaching and preaching, many people have been set free from past addictions, pains, wounds, and negative lifestyles and have been brought into a spiritual and wholesome lifestyle. Dr. Bethea firmly believes that she can do all things through Christ which strengthens her! Her eagle mentality is contagious to those around her. Dr. Bethea gave her life to the Lord at the early age of 15 and began preaching at the tender age of 17. She is a graduate of Belmont Elementary, Calverton Middle School, Western High School, Coppin State College/Coppin State University, and Saint Mary's Seminary/and University. She also earned her Doctorate through the Graduate Theological Foundation completing her coursework and defending her dissertation at Oxford University in Oxford, England. She is a member of the West Baltimore Clergy United, Women Who Soar International, Female Clergy Support Group of Maryland, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated-Baltimore Alumnae Chapter, the International/Association of Women Ministers, and the Foundation Board at Coppin State University. She was initially ordained in June of 1988 and has taught and preached the Word of God extensively at Seminars, Conferences, Revivals, Workshops and Meetings throughout the United States, Africa, Bermuda, Canada, and England. Perhaps her greatest challenge came in April 1997 when she was called to the pastorate. After three years of preparation, the church was planted and opened on April 9, 2000. Set the Captives Free Outreach Center, which has grown to over 2,000 members, is a center for healing and an incubator to discover and birth destinies. She is the author of Foundational Steps, an interactive Bible-based children's church curriculum through which children ages 2-14 learn Biblical concepts in a systematic manner. Many churches are using it successfully in their children's ministries. She has also written Doors, (May 2011) and co-wrote Testimonies From Overcomers (Nov. 2010) and Grow Wings (Nov. 2012) with the Women Who Soar. In addition to being a minister, she is a wife and mother. She is married to Pastor Linwood E. Bethea, with whom she co-pastors. They have two beautiful children: Tiffany and L. Jamaal Bethea and two grandchildren Natalie and Jordan. As of February 14, 2014, they have been married for 33 years.
