GOOD FRIDAY COLLECTION As we continue in the season of Lent, this special penitential season of the liturgical year is an excellent time to turn our thoughts even more toward our mission of growing in a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and supporting our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land. Lent offers another special opportunity to support the Christians and the institutions in the land of His birth, death and Resurrection. This is the third year that the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre are helping promote the Good Friday Collection. None of the monies collected on Good Friday go to the Equestrian Order. Rather 100% of these funds go to maintain the holy sites that are visited by our pilgrims and support numerous Franciscan apostolates that directly help the Christians in the Holy Land. Thank you for your anticipated generous assistance. St. Vincent de Paul Society DONATION COLLECTION ASCENSION PARKING LOT APRIL 7 & 8 Helping Us Help Others! Around the Diocese and Parish Neighborhood ADVOCATE WE MUST The Society recognizes that it must assume a role of advocacy for those who are defenseless or voiceless. We believe our Vincentian voice can make a difference. Elected officials in D.C., our state capitol, and in our city and county governments are there because of voters like us. Their central focus is to respond to voter concerns, and they need to hear from us. No input from constituents about issues that are critical to the well being of the poor, is interpreted as lack of community interest or as an issue of little consequence. On the other hand, the more interest generated by constituents, the more likely they will respond! As Members of the SVDP, we have a voice and an identity, and we are part of a larger faith-based community the Catholic Church. Our Members are homeowners, parents, business owners, and taxpayers who live in the neighborhoods that elected officials represent. Our elected representatives in Washington, in our state capitol, and in our city and county governments discuss legislation that affects those whom we serve. Care for the elderly, fair wages, housing, child welfare, health care, the sanctity of life, education, prison reform, nutrition programs, debt relief all have an impact on the quality of life for many. By educating our representatives and sharing our stories, statistics, and service, we can make a critical and effective difference for those whom Christ has called us to serve. Catholic social teaching provides a framework for action that is deeply rooted in the example and teachings of Jesus. We are followers of Jesus who came to bring glad tidings to the poor... liberty to captives... recovery of sight to the blind. Jesus identified with the least of these, the hungry, the homeless, the stranger. Can you help us with advocacy for the poor and disadvantaged who cannot much help themselves? Become one of our SPOTLIGHTS on the needs of the poor and an advocate for those in need of help.
