They are now called Neophytes a church word that refers to those adults who have received all the sacraments of Initiation. They will continue to gather with our worshiping community every Sunday during the Easter Season and beyond. Their sponsors and catechists will be right along-side of them during the Easter Season. Be sure to acknowledge this extremely important step in their lives and the lives of the communities of St. John and St. Ann. May God bless them. Deacon Brendan My Dear Friends in Christ, While the Easter Day celebrations have ended, our Easter Season continues. Today, as a Church, we celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday. This day, which centers around the Divine Mercy our Lord showed the world in offering Himself on the Cross, was instituted over a decade ago by Pope (Saint) John Paul the Great. He declared that the Church should set aside the first Sunday after Easter for this celebration. This feast, often marked by the recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet, is a reminder to us that the Easter mystery continues. At the heart of Divine Mercy is our cry to the Lord, Jesus, I trust in You. When we recognize that all our trust is to be put in the Lord, we free ourselves to do the work our Lord commanded us, to go out and show others the goodness which God has bestowed on us. Jesus, in today s gospel, shows this goodness when He reappears to the disciples in a post-resurrection encounter. As they are gathered in a room together (quite possibly the same room they gathered in for the Last Supper), Jesus comes to them. Before the disciples can utter a word (they were probably too astounded to speak!), Jesus offers them His gift of peace. It is a peace which only He can bestow, a gift which only He can give. Thomas is not with them, so he doubts that the Lord was present. As a way of quelling all doubt, Jesus reappears to them, this time with Thomas present. Jesus invites Thomas to examine the wounds He suffered at the crucifixion. In a moment of pure faith, Thomas utters that statement of belief, my Lord and my God (Jn 20:28). Notice that Thomas doesn t approach Jesus and examine the wounds. He doesn t have to he knows, through faith, that this IS the Lord. Where are we in relation to the Lord? Do we have to be shown (like Thomas) who God is for us? Do we take it on faith that the promises made by God are being, and will be, delivered? Are we among those who have not seen and have believed (Jn 20:29)? Wherever we are on our journey of faith, may we come to know that God is at work in our lives. May we come to trust in His Divine Mercy. May we share that mercy with all whom we meet, not only in this Easter Season, but in every season, in every time and at every opportunity which God provides us to do so. A Blessed Easter to All, Fr. Paul 3

COLLABORATIVE NEWS AT SAINT ANN S AND SAINT. JOHN S The Next Second Collection May 10, 2018 TheAscension Financial Blessings St. Ann s Budget St John s Budget SUMMARY OF COLLECTIONS 3/25/18 3/25/18 OFFERTORY $3,752 $3,680 $ 4,765 $5,700 GRAND ANNUAL $15,220 $32,000 $25,345 $32,000 The History of the Chaplet of The Divine Mercy In 1935, St. Faustina received a vision of an angel sent by God to chastise a certain city. She began to pray for mercy, but her prayers were powerless. Suddenly she saw the Holy Trinity and felt the power of Jesus grace within her. At the same time she found herself pleading with God for mercy with words she heard interiorly: Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world; for the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us. (Diary, 475) As she continued saying this inspired prayer, the angel became helpless and could not carry out the deserved punishment (see 474). The next day, as she was entering the chapel, she again heard this interior voice, instructing her how to recite the prayer that our Lord later called "the Chaplet." This time, after "have mercy on us" were added the words "and on the whole world" (476). From then on, she recited this form of prayer almost constantly, offering it especially for the dying. In subsequent revelations, the Lord made it clear that the Chaplet was not just for her, but for the whole world. He also attached extraordinary promises to its recitation. Encourage souls to say the Chaplet which I have given you (1541). Whoever will recite it will receive great mercy at the hour of death (687). When they say this Chaplet in the presence of the dying, I will stand between My Father and the dying person, not as the just Judge but as the Merciful Savior (1541). Priests will recommend it to sinners as their last hope of salvation. Even if there were a sinner most hardened, if he were to recite this Chaplet only once, he would receive grace from My infinite mercy (687). I desire to grant unimaginable graces to those souls who trust in My mercy (687). Through the Chaplet you will obtain everything, if what you ask for is compatible with My will. (1731) Prayed on ordinary rosary beads, The Chaplet of The Divine Mercy is an intercessory prayer that extends the offering of the Eucharist, so it is especially appropriate to use it after having received Holy Communion at Holy Mass. It may be said at any time, but our Lord specifically told St. Faustina to recite it during the nine days before the Feast of Mercy (the first Sunday after Easter). He then added: "By this Novena, [of Chaplets] I will grant every possible grace to souls." (796) It is likewise appropriate to pray the Chaplet during the "Hour of Great Mercy" three o'clock each afternoon (recalling the time of Christ s death on the cross). In His revelations to St. Faustina, Our Lord asked for a special remembrance of His Passion at that hour. LOGO FOR THE COLLABORATIVE Month s back we asked the members of the collaborative to come up with a name for the collaborative, it was such a success, that NOW we are asking members of the collaborative to design a logo for the: Together in Christ Collaborative. For more information, contact Chris Graf. The Cursillo method aims at helping to transform, in a Christian way, the environments where people live and work through the involvement of 'new men and women' who have become such from their encounter with Christ. (St. Pope John Paul II, July 29, 2000). Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, "Peace be with you." Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe." - Jn 20:26b-27 New mailing address: P O Box 474 West Bridgewater MA 02379 WEST BRIDGEWATER FOOD PANTRY IS IN DIRE NEED OF HELP! ESPECIALLY MEN ANYONE INTERESTED PLEASE CONTACT: CALVIN GREY 508-559-6569 Excerpts from the Lectionary for Mass 2001, 1998, 1970 CCD. Second Sunday of Easter When children grow up, they begin to doubt certain beliefs they had held as long as they could remember. Some of those beliefs stem from stories told to them by others to bring awe and wonderment to their childhood. Some are beliefs about how things work in the world, and some are concerning where they fit into that world. As children reach maturity, some beliefs will be verified and then held onto for the rest of their lives; other ideas will be cast aside for good, either because they have seen no evidence that attests to the truth of those beliefs or because others have convinced them through words or actions that those beliefs were in error. A great sadness results when someone disbelieves the truth because they have seen no evidence to confirm it. Thomas had a chance to believe because he saw Jesus and touched his scars. But there are people all around us who only see injustice, pain, and sorrow, and Jesus is nowhere to be found. Where are those who bear the name of Christian? Perhaps this Easter season, God is calling you to show the real Jesus Christ to others so they may believe. Every Thursday night At 6:30 In St. Ann s Parish Center Doors open 5:00 5
