The Point of No Return Exodus 7-11 2

Why study the OT? 3

Who do you obey? 5: 2 Pharaoh said, "Who is the LORD, that I should obey him and let Israel go? I do not know the LORD and I will not let Israel go." Pharaoh, If I am a god of this powerful kingdom, why should I submit to a god of slaves. " To show the Israelites that the God of their fathers is alive and worthy of their worship; To show the Egyptians that their gods is nothing. 4

Almighty God Vs Pharaoh EXODUS 7-12 1. god of the Nile 2. goddess of birth 3. god of the desert 4. god of the air 5. god of the livestock 6. god of health 7. god of the air 8. god of harvest 9. Sun god- Pharaoh 5

THE TEN PLAGUES EXODUS 7-12 God is converting the people first the Israelites and then the Egyptians. No Distinctions Egyptians & Israelites Distinctions between Egyptians & Israelites Distinctions between Believing Egyptians & Unbelieving Egyptians 6

1. The Plague of blood God judgment against the god of the economy The Egyptian magicians also change the water into blood and Pharaoh turned and went into his palace, and did not take even this to heart, 7:23 Result Pharaoh s heart became hard; 7:22 7

2. The Plague of Frogs God judgment against the god of the life. The Egyptian magicians did the same but could not take the frogs away. Pharaoh said "Pray to the LORD to take the frogs away from me and my people, and I will let your people go to offer sacrifices to the LORD. 8:8 When? Tomorrow! Result But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart 8:15, 8

3. The Plague of Gnats God judgment against the god of the earth. The Egyptian magicians could not produce gnats. The magicians said to Pharaoh, This is the finger of God. 8:18-19 Result But Pharaoh s heart was hard and he would not listen, just as the LORD had said. 8:19 9

4. The Plague of Flies God judgment against Idolatry. Go, sacrifice to your God here in the land. 8:25 Pharaoh said, I will let you go to offer sacrifices to the LORD your God in the wilderness, but you must not go very far. Now pray for me. 8:28 Result The flies left Pharaoh, but this time also Pharaoh hardened his heart and would not let the people go. 8:32 10

5. The Plague of Livestock God judgment against the god of the economy of Egypt. Pharaoh investigated and found that not even one of the animals of the Israelites had died. Yet his heart was unyielding and he would not let the people go. 9:7 Result 11

6. The Plague of Boils God judgment against the god of Health & Disease. The magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils that were on them and on all the Egyptians. 9:11 Result But the LORD hardened Pharaoh s heart and he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said to Moses. 9:12 12

7. The Plague of Hail God judgment against the god of Air. This time I have sinned, he said to them. The LORD is in the right, and I and my people are in the wrong. 28 Pray to the LORD, for we have had enough thunder and hail. I will let you go; you don t have to stay any longer. When Pharaoh saw that the rain and hail and thunder had stopped, he sinned again. 8: 27-34 Result He and his officials hardened their hearts. Pharaoh s heart was hard and he would not let the Israelites go.9:35 13

8. The Plague of Locusts God judgment against the god of harvest. Go, worship the LORD your God, he said. But tell me who will be going. 10:8 The LORD be with you if I let you go, along with your women and children! Clearly you are bent on evil. [a] No! Have only the men go and worship the LORD, since that s what you have been asking for. 10:8-11 14

8. The Plague of Locusts God judgment against the god of harvest. I have sinned against the LORD your God and against you. 17 Now forgive my sin once more and pray to the LORD your God to take this deadly plague away from me. 10:16-17 Not a locust was left But the LORD hardened Pharaoh s heart, and he would not let the Israelites go. 10:19-20 15

9. The Plague of Darkness God judgment against the sun god Go, worship the LORD. Even your women and children may go with you; only leave your flocks and herds behind. 10:24 Get out of my sight! 10:27-28 Result But the LORD hardened Pharaoh s heart, and he was not willing to let them go. 10:27 16

10. The Plague of the Firstborn God judgment against the protector of children Up! Leave my people, You and the Israelites! Go, worship the LORD as you have requested. Take your flocks and herds, as you have said, and go. And also bless me. 12:31-32 Result And I will harden Pharaoh s heart, and he will pursue them. But I will gain glory for myself through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD. 14:4 The LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, so that he pursued the Israelites, who were marching out boldly. 14:8 17

10. The Plague of the Firstborn God judgment against the protector of children Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds 14:5 And the Egyptians said, Let s get away from the Israelites! The LORD is fighting for them against Egypt. 14:25 Not one of them survived. 14:28 Result I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them. And I will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. The Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I gain glory through Pharaoh, his chariots and his horsemen. 14:17-18 18

Who do you put your trust in? 14:29 But the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left. 30 That day the LORD saved Israel from the hands of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the shore. 31 And when the Israelites saw the mighty hand of the LORD displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant. 19

Our God is Powerful 4:21 The LORD said to Moses, When you return to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders I have given you the power to do. But I will harden his heart so that he will not let the people go. 22 Then say to Pharaoh, This is what the LORD says: Israel is my firstborn son, 23 and I told you, Let my son go, so he may worship me. But you refused to let him go; so I will kill your firstborn son. Exodus 6 (NIV) 6 Then the LORD said to Moses, Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh: Because of my mighty hand he will let them go; because of my mighty hand he will drive them out of his country. 20

Our God is Patient Exodus 4:8 (NIV) 8 Then the LORD said, If they do not believe you or pay attention to the first sign, they may believe the second. Exodus 9:16 (NIV) 16 But I have raised (SPARED) you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth. 21

Our God Hears, Sees & Answers. Exodus 2:24-25 (NIV) 24 God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob. 25 So God looked on the Israelites and was concerned about them. Exodus 8:30-31 (NIV) 30 Then Moses left Pharaoh and prayed to the LORD, 31 and the LORD did what Moses asked 22

The Point of No Return 23

The Point of No Return For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. (2 Corinthians 7:10) 24
