WELCOME NEW YOUTH GROUP LEADERS Dear Our Lady of Mercy Parish, My name is Tori LaBelle and I am thankful to join the Our Lady of Mercy family as the new Director of Life Teen. I am originally from Pennsylvania where I earned my Bachelor s Degree in Theology at Duquesne University of the Holy Spirit (the birthplace of the American charismatic renewal!). I most recently worked as the Director of High School and Young Adult Ministries in Bangor, Maine. I have been involved in youth ministry leadership since I was 16, and even met my current husband, Mark, at a Youth Conference in Nashville! I look forward to joyfully journeying alongside High Schoolers as they navigate the difficult cultural climate of today. I am excited to attend Camp Hidden Lake this July with Life Teen students and dive into the school year with a heart yearning to know the relentless Father more deeply! Parents and young adult volunteers are needed to help keep this program successful. If you are interested in joining our team as a volunteer, please send me an email or drop by the Church Office for a visit. In Christ, Ms. Tori LaBelle Life Teen Director tori.labelle@olomchurch.com Dear Our Lady of Mercy Parish, Hello! My name is Delaney Walsh, and I am thrilled to be welcomed into your beautiful community, thank you for your warm reception! Serving as Mercy s new Edge Coordinator allows me the wonderful opportunity to work with Middle School youth and parents. I recently graduated from LSU with a B.A. in Communication Studies. Throughout college I was actively involved in ministry at Christ the King Catholic Church, leading Bible studies, worship, and small groups. I also worked at Camps Kahdalea & Chosatonga as a Middle School Counselor. Through this experience and formation, I feel equipped to continue my call to discipleship within this parish. In John 10:10, Jesus tells us, I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly. Life with Christ is a beautiful adventure. I desire for this youth program to reflect the burning heart of Jesus, and to be a space for encounter, community, and growth! Through programs like Edge nights, Bible studies, service programs, retreats our youth will have ample opportunity to love and know our Lord in their daily lives. I am so excited to be a member of this Church family and serve its youth! I am asking for your prayers and support as we continue to grow our youth ministry. A core leadership of young adults and parents who desire to share their faith in word and example is needed for the success of this program. If you are interested, please stop by my office, or email me. I look forward to working with and getting to know you more! Through the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Ms. Delaney Walsh Edge Coordinator delaney.walsh@olomchurch.com BATON ROUGE, LA 3

Called to Action PARISH LIFE A Letter From the Pastor Would you believe that half of the year 2018 is already behind us? The long, hot days of summer are here and many are enjoying these vacation days. I want to share a few things with you that are on my mind. FIRST, I want to say how exciting it is to look out upon the beautiful, new LOWER SCHOOL. This incredible facility for which we have been planning, fundraising, and constructing will be ready for our children for the start of the new school year in August. What great satisfaction there is to see this important dream for the life of our parish come to fruition. This facility will be such an excellent learning environment for our three year olds through second grade students who will be housed in these 15 new classrooms, library/media center, nurse s station, offices, and teachers lounge. COLEMAN PARTNERS ARCHITECT has done a beautiful design for this state of the art facility. Quite frankly, it has exceeded my expectation and is even more beautiful in reality than on the drawing board. ARKEL CONSTRUCTION has been the contractor for this project and has also exceeded every expectation throughout the construction process. I am so grateful for all who have been involved in the design and construction phase. They have built this new school building with the care, concern, and diligence of building their own homes. I invite you to take the virtual tour of the new school building on the Mercy website (www.olomchurch.com). SECOND, I want to remind everyone that the new LOWER SCHOOL EXPANSION would not be possible without the incredible generosity of all of those who participated in the TRADITIONS FOR TOMORROW CAMPAIGN. Of the 3,330 registered families at Mercy, 1,068 families have participated. These families and individuals have given generously what they could --- some more than others --- but this campaign has been about equal sacrifice not equal amounts. As you remember, I asked each family to consider $5,000 over three years. I do realize that this is too great a sum for many families especially with children in school or those on fixed incomes. But I would still ask that everyone do something. I even proposed $19.47 a month for the next three years --- why 1947? --- because it was the year Our Lady of Mercy was founded. If we all do something, we can accomplish a tremendous future for our children and the strong presence of Catholic Church in our community. THIRD, This brings me of course to the next phase of construction which is the new GYM. Construction has already begun after having recently received the approval of the Diocese to move forward. The early stages of clearing the property can be seen as daily progress moves forward. The new Gym will be constructed to the left of the present gym and the old gym will be re-purposed and converted into a CENTER FOR PERFORMING ARTS AND MUSIC. I am so excited that this project benefits the entire school, as every grade uses the Gym. The new Lower School is meeting the needs of newer Mercy families with little children and the new Gym will benefit those school families who have been at Mercy for years and have been desperate for a new athletic facility. The Gym project also includes added parking for 76 cars This incredible addition will add a tremendous sense of pride to our school family and make the HOME OF THE BLUE JAYS an awesome place to gather for athletics and the hosting of tournaments. 4 OUR LADY OF MERCY PARISH

Called to Action PARISH LIFE FOURTH, I know that many are waiting the addition of the COLUMBARIUM GARDEN (burial place for cremains). Preparations are continuing and Parish Administrator Randy Arabie is anticipating action on this desirable addition in the early fall. I must apologize because I know that we have been speaking about the COLUMBARIUM GARDEN for over a year now. Many of you have made inquiries and are anticipating the actualization of the project. I regret that this has taken longer than we anticipated. Fulfilling the many requirements for State and Local Government, along with the approval of the Diocese, has been more arduous than originally planned. I remind you that you may take a virtual tour of the proposed COLUMBARIUM GARDEN on the Mercy website (www.olomchurch.com). Design of the project has been done by parishioner, Pete Newton Landscaping and the contractor selected is once again Arkel Construction. A Lunch and Learn is planned for this coming August and sale of columbarium spaces should begin at that time with Mrs. Deanie Smith coordinating the sales process. Columbarium spaces will be priced at $5,000 for simple Cremation Boxes for two people and at $7,500 for columbarium spaces for Urns for two people. Please know that persons purchasing these spaces in the beautiful COLUMBARIUM GARDEN are also helping our parish with this donation. You may call Mrs. Deanie Smith to place your name on the list of interested buyers and priority selection of spaces. Thank you for your patience. Our primary concern is that everything be done properly and that this addition reflects the beauty and uniformity of our campus. Please note that columbarium spaces are available to non-parishioners and non-catholics alike. FIFTH, Our parish is foremost a place of prayer and worship. It is so edifying to see the numbers of people attend weekday Mass during the summer months. Please be mindful that during these months Adorers are always needed in the Adoration Chapel. If you are able to give an hour of your time to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, I ask that you call Martha Wells at (225) 928-4157. Give yourself to Jesus in Adoration. Those who take the difficult early morning hours receive much grace for your sacrifice. Jesus says to each of us, I WAIT FOR YOU. A special word of gratitude to the ACTS MEN AND WOMEN who have taken on the sacrifice of early morning Adoration hours. As I have shared before, the Chapel cannot remain open 24 hours / 7 days a week without faithful committed Adorers. ACTS MEN AND WOMEN retreatants are helping to make this possible. GOD BLESS YOU ALL! SIXTH, July is the slowest month at Mercy --- if one can even use that word slow in the same breath with Mercy. Fr. Joey Aguilar from the Philippines will be returning to be with us during the month of July while I take a little rest and relaxation. Fr. Steve Rodrigues will be returning to visit with us during the month of August. SEVENTH, None of us can simply wait for someone else to do what needs to be done. Mercy is Mercy because of YOU, the faithful parishioners and families. When you cease to do what you do --- Mercy will cease to be what it has always been. Fr. Nutan and I are appointed by Bishop Muench to serve. Pray for us to be good servants and shepherds. I pray everyone will have a wonderful rest of your summer. While you are away on vacation --- DON T FORGET TO KEEP MERCY BETWEEN YOUR LIGHT AND WATER BILL. Our Lady of Mercy, pray for us! BATON ROUGE, LA 5
