Changing Lives for 900 years www.stmarylebone.org Information Relating to Funerals and Memorial Services at St. Marylebone 2018 We offer you our condolences at this time of bereavement and remembering a loved one. This leaflet will help you decide what might be best for you as you think about planning a service at St. Marylebone. Can you arrange a funeral or memorial service here? Yes, you can. We are very happy to meet with you to discuss your specific requirements. Date & Time Personally, or through your Funeral Director, please make an appointment to meet the Rector or one of the other clergy on the staff. Discuss what date and time you would like the service to take place. The longer notice we have the easier it is to meet your requirements.

How much will it cost? Funeral/Memorial Service invoices will, usually, be sent to the Funeral Director, unless we are informed otherwise. Payment can be Electronically (BACS) by using the following details: Account Name: St Marylebone Parish Church Sort Code: 20-03-53 Account No.: 50808210 IBAN GB27 BARC 2003 5350 8082 10 SWIFTBIC BARCGB22 Music Music at a Funeral or Memorial Service can be very important. We have a very fine musical tradition here at St Marylebone with a fine choir of professional classical musicians. We will be happy to talk with you about your choice of music, and recommend organ and choir pieces suitable to the occasion. For the recommended list of Organ Music and Choral items, please see the list appended to this document. Please do not feel limited by this list of suggestions however. Please note that recorded music cannot be played at Funerals or Memorial services at St Marylebone. A Standard Funeral at St Marylebone (which includes the organ, an organist, ten professional singers, Director of Music, Fees, and up to 100 printed Orders of service is 2825.00. We can provide additional solo instrumentalist (cello, violin, etc.), if required at an additional cost

Readings Every Funeral or Memorial service will include at least one reading from Holy Scripture. You may find this website helpful. It lists suitable Bible passages: http://www.churchofengland.org/prayer-worship/worship/ texts/ pastoral/funeral/readingspsalms.aspx The Funeral Service You have a choice from two different funeral services. One uses contemporary language (you, yours), the other uses traditional language (thee, thou). The Rector will discuss the options with you. Both services may be found at this website: Contemporary Service: www.churchofengland.org/prayerworship/worship/texts/pastoral/funeral/funeral.aspx#service Traditional Language Service: http://www.churchofengland.org/prayerworship/worship/texts/1928/series-one-burial-services/an-orderfor-the-burial-of-the-dead.aspx Order of Service On the day of the Funeral or Memorial Service the congregation will need to follow the proceedings in an Order of Service. This will include within it the words of the hymns, the names and words of the musical items, the reading(s) etc. St. Marylebone will undertake the printing of up to 100 good quality copies. The printing fee is included in the Parish Fee. The Orders of Service are printed professionally. Additional copies are charged at cost. Flowers We are very happy for you to have flowers in St Marylebone, and

these can be ordered through the church at an extra cost. Some families wish to engage a local florist to arrange flowers specially for the funeral or memorial service. Recording We are very happy for this to take place within certain parameters. It is important however to take note of the policy of this Parish Church (and other similar Greater Parish Churches) concerning the recording of services (video and/or audio). If your Funeral or Memorial Service is to be recorded in any way by anyone when a professional Organist and/or Choir are present, then the music fee increases by 50%. Reception The Crypt Hall can be made available for a Reception following a service in church at a cost of 160.00. We can also arrange catering for you should you wish. The smaller Browning Room is also available at a cost of 80.00. Funerals and Memorial Services: the choices you need to make It is helpful if you understand the structure that the service will take and what decisions you will need to make concerning music & readings. The structure of a typical service is outlined below and at the end of this document. The choices you will need to make include: Music before the Service (organ music) At a Funeral: Music when the coffin arrives in church (organ processional or Croft/Purcell Burial Sentences) (congregation) up to 3 Reading(s) from Holy Scripture up to 2

2 or 3 Anthems (choir) Reading of Poetry/Prose (optional) At a Funeral: Music as the coffin leaves the church (organ recessional) At a Memorial Service: Music as the congregation leaves (organ recessional) You will also wish to think about a sermon or homily or a series of family/colleague eulogies Interment of Cremated Remains St. Marylebone has a Columbarium in the Crypt where cremated remains can be safely and appropriately deposited. If you would like to make use of this facility, please discuss the options with the clergy. A one-off fee of 500.00 is charged for this. Conclusion All of this can sound a little overwhelming at first, but with time and thoughtful planning you will end up with a Funeral or Memorial Service which will be able to give comfort to family member, friends and colleagues of the deceased. Music for Funerals and Memorial Services: Some ideas to help you Organ Music Here is a list of some organ music that is suitable for a Funeral or Memorial Service: Before the Service: Bach, J S Air (from Suite no.3) Bach, J S Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring (from Cantata No. 208) Bach, J S Bach Leibster Jesu BWV 731

We recommend that you consider having up to 3 hymns. The clergy will be happy to discuss this choice with you, but here are some you might like to consider: The Lord s my shepherd Abide with me, fast falls the eventide The day thou gavest, Lord, is ended All my hope on God is founded All people that on earth do dwell And did those feet in ancient time ( Jerusalem ) Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart Dear Lord and Father of Mankind Guide me, O thou great Redeemer Immortal, invisible, God only wise King of glory, King of peace

Love Divine, all loves excelling Now thank we all our God O worship the King, all glorious above Praise to the Lord, the almighty, the King of Creation Praise, my soul, the King of heaven The King of Love my shepherd is Jerusalem You are not limited to these hymns; they are a suggestion only. If you are not sure of the tunes which accompany these words, then visit this website: www.cyberhymnal.org. The tune will be played for you.
