WE CENTER OURSELVES ON GOD Welcome to a time of Sabbath, rest, and renewal \August 19, 2018 Glade Matters Shared moments of information and inspiration about our church family Prelude I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked Geoffrey O Hara (Bonnie Clowes & Tim Kueberth) *Call to Worship L: When we come to worship, we bring the fullness of ourselves to this time. From the past, we carry our worries and our joys. P: Staring into the future, we bring our hopes and our dreams. L: God desires our pasts, to bless and heal them. P: God gives us our present, to inspire and encourage us. L: God holds our futures, to give us purpose and hope. P: We bring the fullness of ourselves to this time. L: Seeking the Creator of that is, may we offer our thoughts and our dreams, our questions and our doubts, our hearts and our very selves as we worship God now! *Processional Hymn Be Now My Vision #451 *Prayer of Confession (Offered by All) Holy One, you delight in us and desire nothing more than we live at our best. You have dreams for your creation: that all may dwell in harmony, that peace would be the rule and order of things, that everyone may have all they need for abundant life. However we have our own dreams: to be the best, to be the richest, to be the healthiest, to have the most fame and success. Often our pursuit of these dreams comes at the expense of others, as we turn from you and listen to the myth of scarcity. We trust more in our abilities and talents than we do your dreams and power. When we chase after our selfish dreams rather than being open to the paths you intend for us, forgive us. In those seasons when our dreams interfere with the desires you have for us and for all creation, forgive us and open us to your wisdom. We seek your voice and your way. Amen. 2
Words of Assurance L: Beloved of God, the Holy One never gives up on us. In unfailing love, God seeks us out and forgives that which needs healing. God gives us new dreams for our flourishing and for the sake of the world. P: This is the good news that brings us life. Thanks be to God! Amen. Scripture Reading 1 Kings 3: 5-15 L: The Word of God for the people of God. P: Thanks be to God!
