Please do stay for coffee served at the back of church after the service. There is a toilet at the back of church should you need to use it during the service. THE GATHERING We stand at the entrance of the choir and clergy and sing: Hymn 242: Percy Dearmer. GOD IS LOVE: HIS THE CARE, tending each, ev rywhere. God is love, all is there! Jesus came to show him, that we all might know him! Sing aloud, loud, loud! Sing aloud, loud, loud! God is good! God is truth! God is beauty! Praise him!
None can see God above; we can share life and love; thus may we Godward move, seek him in creation, holding ev ry nation. Jesus lived on the earth, hope and life brought to birth and affirmed human worth, for he came to save us by the truth he gave us. To our Lord praise we sing, light and life, friend and King, coming down, love to bring, pattern for our duty, showing God in beauty. THE GREETING Celebrant The Lord be with you and also with you THE PRAYER OF PREPARATION Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.
PRAYERS OF PENITENCE Celebrant Our Lord Jesus Christ said: The first commandment is this: Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is the only Lord. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbour as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Amen. Lord have mercy. Celebrant God so loved the world that he gave his only Son Jesus Christ to save us from our sins, to be our advocate in heaven, and to bring us to eternal life. Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, firmly resolved to keep God s commandments and to live in love and peace with all. Most merciful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we confess that we have sinned in thought, word and deed. We have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. In your mercy forgive what we have been, help us to amend what we are, and direct what we shall be; that we may do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with you, our God. Amen Celebrant Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy upon us, pardon and deliver us from all our sins, confirm and strengthen us in all goodness, and keep us in life eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Gloria in Excelsis is sung - Edwin Le Grice Tune Woodlands Glory to God, we give you thanks and praise; of heav nly joy and earthly peace we sing. We worship you, to you our hearts we raise, Lord God, almighty Father, heav nly King. Lord Jesus Christ, the Father s only Son, you bore for us the load of this world s sin. O Lamb of God, your glorious vict ry won, receive our pray r, grant us your peace within. Alone, O Christ you only are the Lord, at God s right hand in majesty most high: who with the Spirit worshipped and adored: with all the heav nly host we glorify. Celebrant THE COLLECT Almighty and everlasting God, you are always more ready to hear than we to pray and to give more than either we desire or deserve: pour down upon us the abundance of your mercy, forgiving us those things of which our conscience is afraid and giving us those good things which we are not worthy to ask but through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen First Reading Proverbs 9:1-6 THE LITURGY OF THE WORD
Reader This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Second Reading Ephesians 5:15-20 Reader This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God Hymn 169: Maria Willis. Copyright Oxford University Press. FATHER, HEAR THE PRAYER WE OFFER: not for ease that prayer shall be, but for strength that we may ever live our lives courageously. Not for ever in green pastures do we ask our way to be; but the steep and rugged pathway may we tread rejoicingly. Not for ever by still waters would we idly rest and stay; but would smite the living fountains from the rocks along our way. Be our strength in hours of weakness, in our wonderings be our guide; through endeavour, failure, danger, Father, be thou at our side.
Remain standing and turn to face the Gospel: THE GOSPEL John 6:51-58 Reader Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John. Glory to you, O Lord. At the end of the reading: Reader This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. Remain standing until the Priest has introduced the Sermon: THE SERMON AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Let us declare our faith in God. We believe in God the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named. We believe in God the Son, who lives in our hearts through faith, and fills us with his love. We believe in God the Holy Spirit, who strengthens us with power from on high. We believe in one God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.
PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION Prayers for the Church, the world, and for all human need. After each petition the following responses may be used: Lord, in your mercy Hear our prayer and at the end of the prayers: Merciful father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. THE LITURGY OF THE SACRAMENT The Peace Celebrant Christ is our peace. He has reconciled us to God in one body by the cross. We meet in his name and share his peace. The peace of the Lord be always with you and also with you. Celebrant Let us offer one another a sign of peace. As the Body of Christ receives its life from God, and offers its life to God, so we, as members of that Body, greet each other in love. Hymn 273: Thomas Chisholm. Copyright 1923 Hope Publishing GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS, O God my Father, there is no shadow of turning with thee; thou changest not, thy compassions, they fail not; as thou hast been thou forever wilt be. Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see; all I have needed thy hand hath provided, great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me! Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest, sun, moon and stars in their courses above, join with all nature in manifold witness to thy great faithfulness, mercy and love. Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth, thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide; strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside! Celebrant Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation; through your goodness we have this bread and wine to offer which the earth has given and human hands have made. They will become for us the bread of life and cup of salvation. Blessed be God for ever.
THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER Celebrant Celebrant Celebrant Celebrant The Lord be with you and also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give thanks and praise. Father, you made the world and love your creation. You gave your Son Jesus Christ to be our Saviour. His dying and rising have set us free from sin and death. And so we gladly thank you, with saints and angels praising you, and singing: A Gregory Murray, OSB 1905-1992 1975, 1987 McCrimmon Publishing Ltd Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Celebrant Lord, you are holy indeed, the source of all holiness; grant that by the power of your Holy Spirit and according to your holy will, these gifts of bread and wine may be to us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ; who, in the same night that he was betrayed, took bread and gave you thanks; he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.
In the same way, after supper he took the cup and gave you thanks; he gave it to them, saying: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. Jesus Christ is Lord: Lord, by your cross and resurrection You have set us free. You are the Saviour of the world. And so, Father, calling to mind his death on the cross, his perfect sacrifice made once for the sins of the whole world; rejoicing in his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension, and looking for his coming in glory, we celebrate this memorial of our redemption. As we offer you this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, we bring before you this bread and this cup and we thank you for counting us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you. Send the Holy Spirit on your people and gather into one in your kingdom all who share this one bread and one cup, so that we, in the company of Saint Margaret and all the saints, may praise and glorify you for ever, through Jesus Christ our Lord; by whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory be yours, almighty Father, for ever and ever. Amen.
THE LORD S PRAYER Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen. The Breaking of the Bread The Priest breaks the consecrated bread We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread. The Giving of Communion Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Blessed are those who are called to his supper. Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I shall be healed. He whom the universe could not contain is present to us in this bread. He who redeemed us and called us by name now meets us in this cup. So take this bread and this wine. In them God comes to us so that we may come to God.

May we who share Christ s body live his risen life; we who drink his cup bring life to others; we whom the Spirit lights give light to the world. Hymn 114: McClellan, Paculabo and Ryecroft. Copyright 1974 Thankyou Music COLOURS OF DAY dawn into the mind, the sun has come up, the night is behind. Go down in the city, into the street, and let s give the message to the people we meet. So light up the fire and let the flame burn, open the door, let Jesus return, take seeds of his Spirit, let the fruit grow, tell the people of Jesus, let his love show. Go through the park, on into the town; the sun still shines on; it never goes down. The light of the world is risen again; the people of darkness are needing our friend. Open your eyes, look into the sky, the darkness has come, the sun came to die. The evening draws on, the sun disappears, but Jesus is living, and his Spirit is near. Calamus Licence No: 95 C.C.L. It takes group members on a journey through Mark s Gospel to discover who Jesus is, why he came and what it means to follow him.
