December 21, 2014 Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Hainesport, New Jersey Page 3-565 A Message from the Padre On this Fourth Sunday of Advent, we light the fourth and final candle of the Advent Wreath. This candle signifies the peace of God for all of us by the birth of his Son on Christmas Day. Yes, Christmas is the most joyful time of the year.it is a festive day for all Christians. But there is that sad reality that needs to be addressed, especially on how we greet one another during the Christmas Season as seen by the secularized world that it is politically correct to wish each other Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas. My dear friends, we do not seek to impose Christmas on anyone but as Christians we should celebrate and rejoice in the birth of Christ and not be afraid to say Merry Christmas. Remember this is just not an ordinary time of the year for us, it is the Birth of Our Lord, the most important and joyful time of the year. In fact, the message of our Gospel is to rejoice in the birth of the Emmanuel who brings to us the good news of salvation. So on this Fourth Sunday of Advent let us rejoice proclaiming Merry Christmas and thanking God for the birth of his Son for if Jesus had not come into this world, none of these joys would be present in our lives. Fr. Joe Stewardship of Treasure Due to the bulletin s early publication for the holidays, the collection totals for December 14th will appear in next weekend s bulletin. In Celebration of Christmas the Parish Office will be closed Wednesday, December 24th Thursday, December 25th and Friday, December 26th The Parish Office will reopen Monday, December 29th at 9:00 AM Lord God, Almighty Father, creator of mankind and author of peace, as we are ever mindful of the cost paid for the liberty we possess, we ask you to bless the members of our armed forces. Give them courage, hope and strength. May they ever experience your firm support, gentle love and compassionate healing. Be their power and protector, leading them from darkness to light. To you be all glory, honor and praise, now and forever. Amen Please pray for the men and women now serving in the military, especially the loved ones of our parishioners: Michael Blaser Kenneth Fama Chris and Amy Price Megan Cobb Scott Shaffer Kyle Shaffer Joel A. DeLuca Daryl Caufield PRAYERS FOR OUR MILITARY FAMILY The safety and success of our military serving at home and abroad defending our country should be prayed for daily. All should be recognized for their outstanding commitment to risk their lives so we can remain free. Members of our parish family are requested to provide the names of their loved ones so they can be remembered in our prayers. To include their names in our prayer list please contact Carol Nasife by email at carol@olqponline.org or by calling 609-267-0230 ext. 16.

Christ is with you: be not afraid! ~ Address of John Paul II to the Bishops and Apostolic Administrators of Albania on their Ad Limina Visit, February 3, 2001 2001 Libreria Editrice Vaticana. Used with permission. We are facing an enormous and dramatic clash between good and evil, death and life, the culture of death and the culture of life. We find ourselves not only faced with but necessarily in the midst of this conflict : we are all involved and we all share in it, with the inescapable responsibility of choosing to be unconditionally pro-life. ~Pope John Paul II, Evangelium Vitae, 28 Libreria Editrice Vaticana. Used with permission. Religious Education News NO RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES Monday and Tuesday December 22nd and 23rd Fourth Sunday of Advent As we close in on Christmas, we begin to focus more intently on plans we will have to set aside. Maybe we do not really have to make one more trip to the store if we have done what is essential for the coming celebration. One of those essentials is to belong to Jesus Christ, as St. Paul reminds us. Just as it is easy to get distracted by seasonal advertising pitches and lose track of what is really necessary, so can we easily overlook the simplicity of the Christian message. If we allow ourselves to belong to Jesus Christ, to build a relationship with him and seek his mind in all that we do, then we will find the real peace of this season. THERE WILL BE NO CHILDREN S LITURGY OF THE WORD Sunday, December 21st and 28th EPIPHANY SERVICE JANUARY 6, 2015 Our annual Epiphany celebration with our neighbors and friends from St. Paul s Lutheran Church will take place on Tuesday, January 6, 2015. We will gather at St. Paul s for dinner beginning at 6:00 PM, followed by the Prayer Service at 7:30 PM. St. Paul s Lutheran Church is located at 910 Marne Highway, Hainesport.

December 21, 2014 Page 6-565 Fourth Sunday of Advent CATHOLIC CHRISTMAS CAMPAIGN To care is to share Dear Parishioners: World Meeting of Families Love is Our Mission: the Family Fully Alive We are very excited about the news of Pope Francis visit during the September 22-27, 2015 World Meeting of Families. The incredible, world-wide popularity of the Holy Father will make his attendance and celebration of Mass on the Parkway on September 26th a big draw for Catholics and non-catholics alike from all over our region. People are asking the Diocese if they will be able to attend. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia is the host diocese and has already begun the registration process for the weeklong events- except for the Papal Mass. We will have to wait for more news about the Pope s itinerary as it becomes available. Right now, we do not have that information. As soon as the Diocese hears, they will post it on their website, wwwdioceseoftrenton.org. For information currently available about the meeting, please consult the meeting website, www.worldmeeting2015.org. SOCIAL JUSTICE MINISTRY FOOD PANTRY The Social Justice Ministry would like to thank those who generously donated to our Food Pantry. The format of this gathering will be a visit to the Diocesan House of Discernment where you will have the opportunity to meet and chat with some of the priests and some of our seminarians of the Diocese of Trenton. If you are a faithful, single, Roman Catholic man between the ages of 18 and 40 and are asking yourself whether God is calling you to be a priest, you are cordially invited to attend this month s Open House Discernment meeting on December 28th, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at The Church of the Sacred Heart Rectory, 343 South Broad Street, Trenton, New Jersey, 08608.
