Young Teen (Junior High) Visuals Instruction Booklet Winter Quarter, 2016-2017 Using the visual materials Visuals assist the teacher in presenting the lesson and aid the student in the learning process. The visuals consist of one quarterly theme poster, three unit posters that are simple, colorful reminders of the theme of each unit, thirteen lesson posters and twenty-six photomasters that may be used as overhead transparencies or copied and handed out to the students. The quarterly theme poster should be put up at the beginning of the quarter and left up throughout the quarter. The three unit posters will be placed under the theme poster. Unit posters are to be posted at the beginning of a unit and remain up throughout the quarter with the weekly lesson posters that belong to each unit posted under them. UNIT POSTERS Before beginning a unit of study, place unit posters in a prominent place on the classroom wall under the quarterly theme poster. Allow enough room for the lesson posters that relate to each unit to be placed under the appropriate unit poster. UNIT 1 The four lessons in Unit 1, God the Son came into the world in the flesh of a man that He might redeem man from sin, focus on the necessity of the incarnation of Christ in relation to man s redemption. UNIT 2 The five lessons in Unit 2, The Son of God became our example of godly behavior in our relationships with God and our fellowman, focus on the principles which should determine the basis of a Christian s relationships with God and other people. UNIT 3 The four lessons in Unit 3, Jesus Christ, the God-man, died to reconcile sinful man to the holy God, focus on how Jesus lived as a man so that He could die on the cross to bring sinful man into the presence of God. LESSON POSTERS AND VISUALS Lesson posters should be positioned under the appropriate unit poster each week. LESSON 1 Lesson 1 Poster lists some of the characteristics of The Invisible God. God is invisible Spirit but also has intelligence and mass in the person of Jesus Christ. Make copies of Photomaster 1-1 and use during Define section. Students will write the definitions then write sentences using each word. Students will also write about their understanding of the incarnation of Jesus. Make copies of Photomaster 1-2. Students will match the words on the left to the words on the right and write that letter in the blank on the left. LESSON 2 Lesson 2 Poster will show how The Invisible God Became a Visible Man in the person of Jesus Christ who was flesh and blood a physical man. Make copies of Photomaster 2-1. Students will write why it was necessary that Jesus come to earth as a visible person. Make copies of Photomaster 2-2. Students will answer the questions. LESSON 3 Lesson 3 Poster, Humanly Speaking, It s Impossible! will remind students that nothing is impossible with God. Make copies of Photomasters 3-1 and 3-2 or use as transparencies with an overhead projector. Photomaster 3-1 gives Old Testament prophecies and New Testament fulfillment of Christ s birth. Students will answer the questions. Photomaster 3-2 instructions are given under Define section of teacher s book, page 20. 3
LESSON 4 Lesson 4 Poster, A Virgin Gives Birth to a Baby Boy, will remind students of the virgin birth of Jesus. Make copies of Photomasters 4-1 and 4-2 or use as transparencies. Photomaster 4-1 stresses the importance of the virgin birth of Jesus. Photomaster 4-2 stresses that Jesus is Savior and lists things believers will do for Him. LESSON 5 Lesson 5 Poster, The Perfect Man, will stress to students the sinless nature of Jesus and the willing sacrifice He made for all. Make copies of Photomasters 5-1 and 5-2 or use as transparencies. In Photomaster 5-1 students will add words about Jesus then write a paragraph about Him. Photomaster 5-2 deals with the influences in students lives. LESSON 6 Lesson 6 Poster, Me? Forgive That Guy? will impress upon students the importance of forgiveness if they desire the forgiveness of God. Make copies of Photomasters 6-1 and 6-2. With Photomaster 6-1 students will circle the answer that best fits them in each situation. Photomaster 6-2 will ask advantages and disadvantages of forgiving someone. It will then emphasize that the only thing God will not forgive is not being saved. LESSON 7 Lesson 7 Poster, Honor to Whom Honor Is Due illustrates the importance of honor, respect and obedience toward parents and grandparents. Make copies of Photomasters 7-1 and 7-2. Photomaster 7-1 lists some complaints that young people have about parents. Students will answer the questions. The teacher should emphasize the H-E-L-L-O! at the bottom of the page. Photomaster 7-2 will have students list ways to show honor and respect to parents and grandparents. LESSON 8 Lesson 8 Poster, Following the Steps of Jesus, should remind students to have mercy and compassion on others who are in need. They can follow in Jesus steps by remembering the Golden Rule. Make copies of Photomasters 8-1 and 8-2. Discuss questions at top of Photomaster 8-1. Then students will mark which response they might have to the two situations stated. Photomaster 8-2, Random Acts of Kindness, will stress that this action should be a way of life. Students will then write one thing learned from the lesson and one thing they can do to apply the lesson. LESSON 9 Lesson 9 Poster, Only God Has the Right To Judge Men, will remind students that harmful criticism of another should always be avoided. Taking care of our own shortcomings and leaving the faults of others for God to judge should be our goal. Make copies of Photomasters 9-1 and 9-2. In Photomaster 9-1 the terrible condition of Plank-eyetis is defined and symptoms given. Students will write a cure for Plank-eyetis and answer whether they will take the cure for themselves. Photomaster 9-2 will remind students how important it is not to criticize or judge others. It is so harmful. LESSON 10 Lesson 10 Poster will help students learn Oh! How He Loved Us! Jesus sacrificed Himself so that sinful man could be reconciled to God. Make copies of Photomasters 10-1 and 10-2. Photomaster 10-1 gives an illustration similar to what Jesus did for us at Calvary. He paid our penalty for sin. Photomaster 10-2 is a Vocabulary Builder. Instructions are given in the teacher s book on page 52. LESSON 11 Lesson 11 Poster illustrates that Death Couldn t Hold Him! Students will discuss the importance of the resurrection. Make copies of Photomasters 11-1 and 11-2. Photomaster 11-1 will help students understand how Jesus overcame death and why it is important for them. Students will read Photomaster 11-2 and then answer the questions. LESSON 12 Lesson 12 Poster, A Body Went to Heaven, emphasizes the ascension of Jesus back to Heaven. There were eyewitnesses of the event. Make copies of Photomasters 12-1 and 12-2. Photomaster 12-1 will be used during the Define section of the lesson. Instructions are on page 60 of the teacher s book. Photomaster 12-2 will discuss the benefits of a glorified body to that of a natural body. LESSON 13 Lesson 13 Poster, You Have an Advocate! refers to the intercessory work of Jesus on behalf of the saved because Satan continues to accuse the saved even after salvation. Make copies of Photomasters 13-1 and 13-2. Photomaster 13-1 stresses the importance of having someone speak on your behalf. Photomaster 13-2 compares man s efforts in peace talks with that of Jesus and how Jesus results are far superior to anything man will ever do. 4
