Page 2 Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time Sr. Teslin Joseph, SH is a religious sister belonging to the Sacred Heart religious Congregation. Sacred Heart religious order is a local missionary religious group begun by venerable Father Mathew Kadalikkattil some 104 years ago in the South Indian State of Kerala, India. There are about 3600 sisters working in 11 provinces, mainly in Kerala. Navjyothi Province - Province of New Light, Idukki, Kerala, is a fairly new Province of the Sacred Heart order. It is only 12 years old. There are 188 members in this province. The main asset of the Province is its dedicated and well trained, qualified sisters. Sr. Teslin Joseph is the Provincial Superior of Navjyothi Province. A clinical and neuro-psychologist by profession, she has completed her Post Doctoral training in Psycho-pharmacology from Alliant University, San Franciso. She has also worked as a staff psychologist at Patton State Hospital for 8 years and upon her return to India at the request of her superiors to begin a mental health facility in India, she was elected the Provincial Superior. The sisters of Navjyothi Province work in a relatively undeveloped area of the southernmost part of India. Thousands of poor people migrated from the mainland into this forested hilly area to make a living through cultivating the forest clearance. A vast majority of the migrants are Christians and require the support of the local church and missionaries. We educate their children, care for the mothers and attend to their health and cultural needs. We have programs for feeding and clothing the children so that they can attend school. We the Sacred Heart Sisters, following our mission statement, experience the compassionate love of Jesus by living a life of gratitude and seeking the will of God constantly, are trying to be someone for these children. Page 8 Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time Hosted by the St. Kilian Pastoral Council, the community will make a pilgrimage to the Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano on Saturday, September 17, 2016 as part of the Jubilee Year of Mercy. This pilgrimage aims to raise awareness of mental health disorders and the associated stigmas. Pastoral Council Members will be outside of Mass in the coming weeks to take registrations for this event, which will include the pilgrimage, Mass, an opportunity for confession and plenary indulgence as well as lunch and a forum of resources for those struggling with mental health issues and their families. The cost is $25 through August 25, 2016 and includes a t-shirt, transportation, lunch and refreshments. The cost will increase to $30 from August 26 through September 10, 2016, when registration will close. Join us to stomp out the stigma of mental health disorders.
