Tri Cities girls in grades 2nd - 6th are challenged to meet the Savior right where they are. An annual theme, scripture passage, Bible studies, service projects, crafts, games, and just plain fun, help them learn to accept Jesus' love and live as He did through their words, attitudes, and actions toward others. May 6, 2018 weekly news Pastor Laura de Jong I have seen resurrection in my life when. a group of 8 th grade girls asking if they can have a Bible Study devotion time in my room and then hearing them pray for each other, their teachers, and the school. put the Adirondack chairs out on the deck for the first time of the season, and see a beautiful sunset. Renewal at its best! all 200+ members of the G.R. Symphony and Chorus travelled safely to NYC/ Carnegie Hall and home without any trouble. Several apprehensive flyers but smooth flights and a great, affirming performance there. Bonnie and Ralph Veldboom would appreciate prayer for Bonnie s hip replacement surgery scheduled for May 7. May 13 - Ascension Day: Pastor Laura will lead us in worship from Acts 1:1-11. Adult Enrichment: Cal Keuning on CPR After 51 years of service, 45 of them at Second CRC, our faithful organist Jan Zuidema is retiring. Jan's last service will be May 20, and as part of this service she will be playing an extended prelude. We therefore invite you to come early and listen, and help us celebrate and give thanks for the gifts and generosity Jan has blessed us with for so many years! church news church news LOVE TO LEARN - "Love to Learn" is tomorrow in the parlor 9:00 A.M - 10:00 A.M. Topic: "Seventh-day Adventism Exposed" Nursing Home Visit Coordinator: volunteers invited. After ten years of faithful service, Cathy Brolick will soon retire from this role. The Outreach Committee invites volunteers who are ready to carry on this important ministry to congregation members and others living in elder care residences. The coordinator's principal responsibility is to forward scheduling information from Love in Action to Life Groups and schedule which group from Second CRC will offer a brief service of Scripture and song on the Sunday afternoons assigned to us. Is this an area where you can serve the congregation and the community? Dinner provided. Chaos: Our next CHAOS is May 9, 6:45-8:30 p.m. at church. Summer Trip: This summer we are going on a 3-day, overnight canoe trip down the Manistee River. We will leave on Monday, July 16, and return on Thursday, July 19. We will be canoeing 3-5 hours a day and setting up camp at different stops along the river. We will be able to experience God s beauty in nature, enjoy each other s company, swim, fish, and play around. All-inclusive cost for the trip will be $125.00 each. This trip is for anyone going into 9th grade and above. We will have male and female adult leaders going so guys and girls are welcome. If your child, or any friends, would like to reserve a spot, please turn in your $125.00 to me by May 31. Mission Trip Cuba: A few things for next year's Cuba (or backup Puerto Rico) trip. In order to get better airline pricing, they have advised us to start looking at booking 11 months in advance which would be July of this year. Due to this we would like to have a least a general idea of how many people are tentatively planning on going. To do this we are going to ask for a $300 deposit by June 1st to hold your spot. The deposit at this time will be refundable until I get a date from the airline and Experience Mission of when payments become due which I will pass onto everyone. You can either write a check to 2nd CRC (2021 Sheldon, GH 49417) or use funds from your fundraising account if you participated. parish nurse - Manette de Jonge Parish Nurse office hours will be on Tuesday, May 8, from 9:30 to 11:30 am. Feel free to stop in! The next blood pressure screening will be held today after the service. Here s to your Health: I would like to highlight yet another opportunity for you to reach out to our neighboring community. The church is hosting a blood drive for the American Red Cross on Thursday, May 31 from 12:00 pm to 5:45 pm. Your contribution to this could mean a great deal to someone in need. Please consider helping out the day of the drive by working a scheduled shift or by donating blood. Many people that may not be familiar with our church will come into the building that day. Let s be visible examples of Christ s hands and feet in our community! Volunteering is good for your health! (May 20 at church). The next major expiration date is June 1 and this is the LAST TIME we will be mailing them in before summer vacation! Remember each one is worth 10 cents and they can add up when they're turned in on time! D&W / FAMILY FARE receipts - We will be adding up the ones that have been received since February and give you an update by the end of May. Our goal is to collect 150,000 DIRECT DOLLARS to raise $1,000 for our school. Every WHOLE RECEIPT you turn in, no matter how big or small, gets us closer to our goal! Turn the BOX TOPS and receipts to the box at our information desk in the atrium.

Needed: A person to run the projection system on a 3 person team. No special computer skills needed. Scheduling is done around your vacations etc. On an average you would be scheduled every 3rd week. That event will happen at Covenant Life from 7:00-8:00 pm. Garden Club Enjoy the many wild flowers of Hager Park on May 15. The park is located at 8134 28th Ave., in Jenison. Lunch afterwards will be at Main Street Pub in Allendale. Plan to meet at church at 9:30. community news AN EVENING OF BACH, MOZART AND MORE: Tonight (May 6) at 7:30 the Bach Chorale of Grand Rapids will present its spring concert, featuring choral and instrumental music by Mozart, Bach and Bruchner under the direction of Martin Werner at Central Reformed Church (East Fulton at College in downtown Grand Rapids). Pianist Roman Salyutov, guest soloist last fall, returns to perform a Mozart piano concerto with chamber orchestra. Three members of Second CRC (Laura DeJong, David Hoekema and Henk Ottens) sing in the chorale and hope you will be there to enjoy a glorious evening of sacred and secular music.
