BRING & SHARE LUNCH Sunday 8 th May @ Cuffley Campus All from both campuses are welcome See Sandy Harvey for more information Working Together, We Can Accomplish More RICK WARREN For we are God s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do (Ephesians 2:10 NIV) God put us on Earth to do a certain work that only we can do. Ephesians says that God made us to do good works and that he planned in advance what we would spend our lives doing. However, he didn t plan

for us to do that work alone. We need people to work with us. You know the feeling you get when you do too much work on your own. You get exhausted and burned out. Why? Because you re trying to do your work alone, while God never meant for it to be that way. God tells us in Ecclesiastes 4:9 that two people are better than one, because they get more done by working together (NCV). When you work as a team, you get so much more done. Plus, having good teammates alongside you is a whole lot more fun and less tiring! Picture this: Each of us is like a snowflake. On our own, we can t make a big difference. However, when one fragile snowflake sticks with a lot of other snowflakes, they can stop traffic. Like snowflakes, we can make a big difference if we work together, each one of us doing only our small part. Did you know that when we work together here on Earth, we re actually practicing for eternity? In Heaven, we will all have to work, but each of us will have just a small piece of work, so we ll never get overloaded or tired. Though no one will carry a heavy burden as each one of us does our small part, all the work will still get done. As you walk through life, remember that you re not supposed to do everything on your own. You need other people to walk alongside you, but you also need other people towork alongside you. As you share the burden of your work with fellow Christians, you ll find that you actually accomplish more for the glory of God. Talk It Over Have you been trying to accomplish too much work on your own? What has been the effect? How does/should the Church exemplify working together to accomplish more for the glory of God? How can you get people to help you in the work God wants you to do? Who can you help? COMMUNION We are now serving a gluten free option for Communion at our Cuffley Campus. Should you require this, please let the person who serves you Communion know. This option will be served on a separate platter to the bread. If you require a sealed packet to avoid any cross-contamination from the bread being prepared, please let your server know. Life Church: God Centred Purpose Driven People Empowering Multi- campus

This Life Group material fits in with the ACTS: Life in the Spirit Sermon Series currently running. As you work through these six sessions there is one question that will bubble away in your small group study and discussion: Jesus, how may we love our community in such a way that it shows what you are like? We start in Acts chapter 8:1, around seven years after Jesus uttered: Acts 1:8: But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. You may have been a Christian for many years and wondered how you may proactively share your faith with those around you, but have lacked the courage to speak of the good news of Jesus. If so, then you are in good company. After Jesus instructed His disciples to go, they stayed! It was only when persecution of the Church started that the disciples in Jerusalem were scattered. Just as well really, otherwise the best news this world has ever been graced with would have remained a secret in a small city for a select few! Session One: Can our community be loved? (Acts 8:1-8) Life Group Study Material Session Two: Good news for each person (Acts 8:26-40) Session Three: Having a Heart for our neighbourhood (Acts 9:10-19) Session Four: What could God do in your community? (Acts 9:32-43) Session Five: Doing a new thing! (Acts 10:19-30) Session Six: What will you do to show others that they are known and loved? (Acts 11:19-30) Note: This material can be downloaded at: www.lifechurch.uk.com. Printed copies are also available. After Jesus rose from the grave, He left His followers with a simple command: Go into all the world and make disciples (see Matthew 28:19). Most Christians today are not known for making disciples, preferring to sit back and enjoy church from a comfortable distance. This is not what God intends for His church Multiply is designed as a simple resource that you can use to begin making disciples. Part I & II of the Multiply Material is available on the church web site: www.lifechurch.uk.com If you would like a printed version of this material, please let Phillip know.

Are You Your Brother s Keeper? David Fadipe It is pleasing to see that our Cuffley is moving in a very progressive, family like direction. Paul Harvey recently preached about being one family from the same father. The following Sunday Barry spoke about getting to know one another better, advising that we sit with someone else in church other than those we already know, so as to get to know them and pray with them. Are you your brother s keeper? This question occurs in the case of Cain responding to God s question in Genesis 4:9; after Cain has just killed his brother Abel because of selfishness and jealousy. We read: Verse 9b: I don t know, he replied. Am I my brother s keeper? and more focus and attention is now on ME, rather than others. People can come to church week in week out oblivious to other peoples needs. We can become bogged down with our very demanding environments. Being each other s keeper means we act as one family of God to one another, loving one another and praying fervently for each other s needs. But, are Christians to be the keepers for other Christians? Yes! Jesus said: Matthew 22:37-39: 37... Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself. Focussing on the second part of this great commandment, as Christians we are not to commit acts of violence against one another. This includes violence of the tongue in the form of gossip, quarrelling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, factions, slander and other forms of disorder. In 1 Corinthians 12:20, we read: As it is, there are many parts, but one body. The text goes on in verses 21 to 22 that none of those parts can say to the other that I have no need of you. We are one body in Christ, and one family in God. We are to show brotherly love towards our brothers People generally (Christians and nonand sisters in Christ with a tender Christians alike) have become selfish, heart and humble mind. Our Vision Statement: To Grow through Living Out the Great Commandment and the Great Commission

I love reading 1 Corinthians 13 where Apostle Paul reminded us that love is even greater than faith and hope. The way of love is that we are constantly encouraged in the New Testament to love one another. Love is the greatest gift of all that we can give to one another as God s children: Romans 12:10-11: 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honour one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord. Finally, 2 Thessalonians 3:13 stressed it further: And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good. Again, love is the greatest gift of all. Let us practicalise God s word by loving and caring for one another. Sit with other people in church, find out their issues and pray along with them, believing that the prayers will be answered. We live in a world full of problems, and despite our identity as God s children, we are not immune to these problems. There are people among us who have health challenges, financial challenges, relationship challenges, and unemployment challenges and so on. But if we work together as God s children, we will see God s miracle manifesting in our midst here at Life Church. Let us conquer the world together through love, and go out and win souls for Christ: Romans 13:10: Love does no harm to a neighbour. Therefore love is the fulfilment of the law.
