king noblemen, bishops... Knights, nuns, monks... servants, peasants, soldiers...

Medieval Society was organized in a feudal tree or pyramid system. WHO WAS ON THE TOP OF THE SOCIETY? The King owned all the land. He gave parts of his land to the most important noblemen. The noblemen supplied the king with knights and soldiers in time of war.

Everyone worked for a person higher up on the feudal pyramid. the king. the noblemen. the knights. worked for The servants and the peasants

The Middle Ages THE LORD He rules the Manor All the people that live in the Manor have to obey his rules. work for him.

And the bishops, the monks and the nuns? Heaven Hell People strongly believed in Heaven and Hell.

And the bishops, the monks and the nuns? If they prayed for you, you went to... If they didn t pray for you, you went to...

People didn t want to go to Hell, so... The Catholic Church was a poweful institution.

Do you want to be the king? You own all the land in the country. You are very rich. If you loose a war, you will loose land and power. You decide who is a Lord. You command the Lords. The Lords and the knights fight for you in times of war. Your father was a king.

Do you want to be the a Lord? You rule a manor You are rich. Many servants and peasants work for you. You have to obey the King. You have to supply the King with knights in time of war. Everybody in the manor obey your rules. Your father was a Lord or a king.

Would you have wanted to be a knight? You live in the castle of the Manor You have some servants who obey your commands. You have to obey your Lord. You have to fight for your Lord in times of war. You have a horse and an armour. Eventually you can become a Lord. Your father was a Lord.

Would you have wanted to be a servant? You live in the castle of the Manor You have to obey your Lord You have to work very hard. You can t leave the Manor without the permission of your Lord. You are poor. Your parents were peasants or servants

Would you have wanted to be a peasant? You live in the village of the Manor. You have to obey your Lord You have to work very hard. You can t leave the Manor without the permission of your Lord. You don t have any possession. The land you work, your animals, your house, your clothes, your food all belong to the Lord of the Manor. You are very poor. Your parents were peasants.
