We are Thankful November 23, 2011 Thankful for Blessings: 615 We Thank You for Your Blessings Invocation: In the name of the Father and of the (+) Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Cong: AMEN Confession of Sins: God invites us to come into his presence and worship him with humble and penitent hearts, therefore let us acknowledge our sinfulness and ask him to forgive us. Congregation: Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful, and that I have disobeyed you in my thoughts, words, and actions. I have done what is evil and failed to do what is good. For this I deserve your punishment both now and in eternity. But I am truly sorry for my sins and trusting in my Savior Jesus Christ, I pray: Lord have mercy on me a sinner. Absolution: God, our heavenly Father, has been merciful to us and has given his only Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Therefore, as a called servant of Christ and by his authority, I forgive you all of your sins in the name of the Father and of the (+) Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Sermonette: Psalm 145:15-16 Thankful for God the Father The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time. 16 You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing. Hymn: 421 All Depends on Our Possessing Sermonette: Galatians 4:4-5 Thankful for God the Son 4 But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, 5 to redeem those under law, that we might receive the 1
full rights of sons. Hymn: 393 If Your Beloved Son, O God Sermonette: 1 Corinthians 6:11 Thankful for God the Holy Spirit You were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. Hymn: 188 Creator Spirit, by Whose Aid Apostle s Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. AMEN. Thanksgiving Prayer M: Dear Heavenly Father, on a day set aside for us to be thankful, we remember to give you thanks. We thank you Heavenly Father for providing for us and protecting us. We thank you God the Son for suffering in our place, dying, and rising again from the grave. We thank you Holy Spirit that you have washed us and sanctified us, and have called us by the Gospel. We thank you for the means of grace in Baptism and Holy Communion. Through these wonderful sacraments you give us the forgiveness of sins that Christ Jesus won for us. By God s grace we proclaim Christ and His Word with our lips and lives. As Christians, we realize that it is only through the Gospel in Word and Sacraments one can be equipped for discipleship and bringing glory to God. As part of the body of Christ, we keep worship, personal Bible study, and Christian education as essential elements of our congregational life. We encourage our members and all people to grow in their faith and knowledge of Christ and His will for us. Here at St. John, we are welcoming to our community and strive to share God s plan of grace with them. St. John is known as a visible example of God s Love for all people.
