A place for faith and fellowship with family and friends. Rev. Mike Winters Pastor Ben Harding Music Director Dr. Ray Jones, Jr. Pastor Emeritus WISE BAPTIST NEWS Dear church family and friends, A PUBLICATION FOR MEMBERS AND FRIENDS OF WISE BAPTIST CHURCH When something goes wrong, two words may apply: repair and resuscitation. When something is damaged, we repair it, but it is often of lower quality. If someone stops breathing, we resuscitate, restoring life as before. Repair and resuscitation are the best human beings can offer. The Bible uses two different words: redemption and resurrection. Redemption means to reassign proper value. The Bible says we are created in the image of God (Gen. 1:26) and Jesus died for us all (Rom. 5:10-11). That gives us value no one can take away. The world deems (assigns) us a certain value. God redeems us with a new and permanent value. Resurrection means transformation, higher quality than before. Jesus is our example. After He died, He was not resuscitated, restoring His human body to its previous state. He was resurrected. Mary spent three years with Him, but did not recognize Him when He first appeared to her after His resurrection. While the disciples shook with fear in the Upper Room, Jesus went through the walls and locked doors to appear to them. When God enters our lives, the work of resurrection begins. God puts something (Someone) in our lives not previously present. There is hope, help, forgiveness, peace, and purpose not otherwise possible. We have the privilege of being about His kingdom work here and we have a place waiting for us in heaven. God wants more for us than repair or resuscitation. He offers redemption and resurrection! To God be the glory! Let s spread the word! See you Sunday. Love, Pastor Mike How to Join Wise Baptist Church: Express one of the following to the Pastor during the closing hymn: Transfer of Letter Transfer membership to Wise Baptist Church Baptism Desire to express faith in Christ through baptism Statement of Faith Baptized believer not on a membership roll Watch Care Desire to be connected to our Church family without official membership August 29, 2017 Important Dates Small Group Bible Studies August 30, 6:45pm New Sunday School Year/Classes Begin September 3, 10am BCM Meal September 4 Missions Committee September 6, 5pm SON Golf Tournament September 16, 8am Youth Tailgating At UVA-Wise Game September 23, 1:30pm Inside Announcements Page 2-3 BDays/Anniv.
