OFFICE OF THE BISHOP 8 August 2018 Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, At all Masses for the last Sunday in August, our parishes take up the special collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious. This collection benefits more than 30,000 retired sisters, brothers, and religious order priests, who have consecrated their lives to serving God and the Church, and especially those orders who have served in the Diocese of Sioux City over the years. This collection is distinct from the Easter collection for the infirm and retired priests of our own Diocese. Our senior religious are a treasure of wisdom and experience in the Church. Their joy, commitment, and hard work laid the foundation for so many of our Catholic schools, hospitals, and charitable works. Their spirit continues to inspire us. Their prayer and witness enrich our faith in countless ways. I am grateful for the service of religious in our Diocese, past and present. I know many of you, too, still recall a sister or brother who made a positive difference in your life. Today, many of these sisters, brothers, and religious order priests are elderly or infirm. Most worked for years for small stipends, leaving their religious communities without adequate savings to meet growing retirement and eldercare needs. Please support these elderly religious with your prayers, and consider faithfully what gift you can make to this collection in thanksgiving for their decades of faithful service. May God bless you most abundantly in all your needs and in your faith. Your brother in Christ, Most Reverend R. Walker Nickless Bishop of Sioux City DIOCESE OF SIOUX CITY 1821 JACKSON STREET SIOUX CITY, IOWA 51105 (712) 233-7555 FAX: (712) 233-7557

Diocese of Sioux City AMDG Memo To: All Priests From: Fr. Shane Deman, Vocation Director Seminarian Poster Parish Bulletin Count Greetings from the Vocation Office! We are preparing a little earlier this year in regard to our annual seminarian poster and bulletin inserts. More on that will be released in the near future. Our goal with this memo is to get a count of how many bulletins your parish prints so we can have one brochure per bulletin. This way we can count and prepare the packages of brochures and posters to be delivered. The posters and brochures will be available in Spanish as well. You can send the count of each English and Spanish to Michelle Steinbach Michelles@scdiocese.org, or phone to 712-233-7523. If you are the pastor of more than one parish please send the amount for each parish in your grouping. We plan to package the materials by parish grouping and deliver to the group s main office. Thank you in advance for your prompt attention in helping us prepare to introduce our seminarians to the people of our diocese.
