NVAW began in 1976 when the U. S. bishops designated the 28th Sunday of the year for NVAW. In 1997, this celebration was moved to coincide with the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, which falls on January 13 in 2013. Beginning in 2014, NVAW was moved to the first full week of November. You can also find more information at: http://www.usccb.org/ beliefs-and-teachings/vocations/national-vocationawareness-week.cfm

Page 2 With Burning Hearts We Proclaim the Good News November 5, 2017 PRAYER FOR PRIESTS Please pray for the following priests this week: Welcome Bishop Brennan Last week we heard about the Christian imperative of the preferential option for the poor. That is, how we are called to help people who are in need, without counting the cost. When we, in loving charity, help the poor, the orphan, the widow, the migrant and others who are in need doesn t mean that we love others any less. This is a segue into telling you that our parish community has pledged $92,175.00 and collected $86,000.00 of our goal of $104,100.00 of our Together in Mission. Today we have Bishop Brennan with us to encourage us to double down and meet the outstanding $18,100.00 left on our Together in Mission goal. Last year we collected $10,000.00 over our goal. I can t see why we can t do that again. Anything that we collect over and above our goal we keep for use in the parish for whatever our pressing needs may be. In the coming weeks, you will be given an update on With Burning Hearts our Capital Campaign more on that to come. Our parish is blessed with many good and holy things in the way religious education, sacramental prep, charitable works, a rich devotional life, a rich liturgical life, a full school and many good and useful buildings in need of some repairs. The supporting numbers will also be coming in the coming weeks. We have much to be grateful in our church and school. You may have noticed that I don t shy away from asking for help in this parish in terms of time, talent and treasure. This is your parish, and part of my job is to keep you informed about our needs. That means talking about money and constantly asking new people to step up and pitch in in ministry. My philosophy is that, I ll continue to ask and you all will help out in whatever capacity that you can. But, if I don t ask, you may not know right? Please help me welcome Bishop Brennan today by giving him a big warm St. John Eudes Eagle s welcome! Nov 5 Rev. John Coleman, O.Carm., Crespi Carmelite Community, Encino Nov 6 Rev. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received a spirit of adoption, through which we cry, Abba, Father. - Romans 8:14-16 The Holy Spirit reveals many things to us. One of the most beautiful is the Spirit revealing God as our loving Father, our Abba - Daddy. Jesus related to his Father as Abba and never before had God been spoken of in such personal and intimate terms. God as Abba is a uniquely beautiful Christian revelation. The Spirit of Jesus desires to free us from fear and a master-slave relationship to a Father-Daughter or Father-Son relationship. Open to ALL. 101
