Blessed be God s kingdom, now and for ever. The Lord be with you. And also with you. LA. Sentence: Of Jesus many said, What is this wisdom that has been given to him? What deeds of power are being done by his hands! Mark 6.2 LA. Let us pray Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name, through Christ our Lord. Amen. Kyrie's Lord, have mercy Christ, have mercy Lord, have mercy Glory to God in the highest, and peace to God s people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory.

Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen. 2 Prayer of the Day: O Lord our God, you are always more ready to bestow your good gifts upon us than we are to seek them; and more willing to give than we desire or deserve: in our every need, grant us the first and best of all your gifts, the Spirit who makes us your children. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen. Seafarers Prayer Heavenly Father, we commend to you all seafarers. Guard and protect them in danger and temptation; sustain them in loneliness; and support them in sickness and anxiety. Bless all who minister to them. Watch over those who are near and dear to them, and grant them the blessing of your presence. These things we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. A reading from St Paul s second letter to the Corinthians, chapter 12, beginning at verse 2. 2 I know a person in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven - whether in the body or out of the body I do not know; God knows. 3 And I know that such a person - whether in the body or out of the body I do not know; God knows - 4 was caught up into Paradise and heard things that are not to be told, that no mortal is permitted to repeat. 5 On behalf of such a one I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except of my weaknesses. 6 But if I wish to boast, I will not be a fool, for I will be speaking the truth. But I refrain from it, so that no one may think better of me than what is seen in me or heard from me, 7 even considering the exceptional character of the revelations. Therefore, to keep me from

being too elated, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me, to keep me from being too elated. 8 Three times I appealed to the Lord about this, that it would leave me, 9 but he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness. So, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 10 Therefore I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities for the sake of Christ; for whenever I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:2-10 (NRSV) 3 Hear the word of the Lord Thanks be to God. LA. Please stand as we sing the Gradual Hymn Fishers Of Men Here at the edge of the sea, not withstanding the wise and the wealthy, you came to summon for me to follow. Refrain: O Lord, with a glance you embraced me; then you smiled and whispered my name. I ve abandoned my boat in the harbour; close to you I will seek other shores. Here, in this vessel I own there s no treasure no weapon of war; just gear for fishing and years of toil. Refrain Here are the arms you require tired branches to shelter the wearied; a love that s stringing to grow and blossom. Refrain: O Lord, with a glance you embraced me; then you smiled and whispered my name. I ve abandoned my boat in the harbour; close to you I will seek other shores. 1980 English words by E Donald Osuna, Ozkland, CA Oregon Catholic Press; CAL W3076

The Lord be with you And also with you 4 The Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to St Mark, chapter 6, beginning at verse 1. Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ. 1 He left that place and came to his hometown, and his disciples followed him. 2 On the sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astounded. They said, Where did this man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been given to him? What deeds of power are being done by his hands! 3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his sisters here with us? And they took offense at him. 4 Then Jesus said to them, Prophets are not without honour, except in their hometown, and among their own kin, and in their own house. 5 And he could do no deed of power there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and cured them. 6 And he was amazed at their unbelief. 7 He called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. 8 He ordered them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts; 9 but to wear sandals and not to put on two tunics. 10 He said to them, Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place. 11 If any place will not welcome you and they refuse to hear you, as you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them. 12 So they went out and proclaimed that all should repent. 13 They cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them. Mark 6:1-13 (NRSV) For the Gospel of the Lord Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Sermon LA. Please stand and say the Apostle s Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. 5 PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Urgent or Immediate Prayer List: Wendy Harris, Thomas, Vi, Gerry Vanderkroft. Grant that what we have asked in faith we may by your grace receive, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. LA. God is steadfast in love and infinite in mercy, welcoming sinners and inviting them to the Lord s table. LA. Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, confident in God s forgiveness. Silence is kept Merciful God, our maker and our judge, we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, and in what we have failed to do: we have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves; we repent, and are sorry for all our sins. Father, forgive us. Strengthen us to love and obey you in newness of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Almighty God, who has promised forgiveness to all who turn to him in faith: pardon you and set you free from all your sins, strengthen you in all goodness and keep you in eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. 6 ADMISSION TO HOLY COMMUNION For the first time today we welcome to the Eucharist Caleb. Caleb shares faithfully and regularly in our worship and now wishes to be admitted as a full communicant member with us, in the body of Christ. On the basis of our baptism, which is the sign and pledge of incorporation into the death and resurrection of Christ and the new life of the kingdom of God, we are admitted to full communion with God. Caleb has been baptised, and today he will receive the sacrament of the body and blood of Christ with us, for the first time. He is taking a new step in the life to which God has called him in baptism and which we trust he will later affirm in his confirmation. Caleb stands before the congregation whilst the priest says these or similar words. PRIEST: Cryssi, do you desire the Admission of Caleb to Holy Communion? CRYSSI: We do. PRIEST: Do you believe that he is aware of the privilege of receiving Holy Communion? CRYSSI: I believe so. The Priest then speaks to Caleb PRIEST: Caleb, do you desire to be admitted to the privilege of receiving Holy Communion? CALEB: I do. PRIEST: Will you, with God's strength given to you through this sacrament of Holy Communion, try to follow Jesus Christ faithfully every day of your life? CALEB: I will with God's help. PRIEST to the congregation: As the people of God in this place, are you willing to support this child in his life of faith and his journey with God in this place. CONGREGATION: We are willing. PRIEST: Let us pray together. Lord, pour your blessing upon Caleb, who has been admitted to Holy Communion this day. Amen. Applause

THE GREETING OF PEACE 7 We are the body of Christ. His Spirit is with us. The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you. LA. We sing the Offertory Hymn From All Around The World From all around the world from all the sea. We praise our mighty God who gives to us the victory. People from every shore bring him their praise. Lord of the ocean s roar until the end of, til the end of days. Some sail across the seas toiling each day. They see what God can do amid the ocean s foaming spray. He calms the raging storm. Saves them from harm. He brings them safe to shore and to a haven, to a haven calm. God brings us victory. God, three in one; The whole worlds stands in awe of all the mighty things He s done. His deeds bring shouts of joy from land and sea; our faults defeat us, but our God can make us, He can make us free. Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have these gifts to share. Accept and use our offerings for your glory and for the service of your kingdom. Blessed be God for ever. Anon. Tune Anchors Aweigh

Please join us for Communion Anyone wishing to receive The Ministry of Healing or Prayers, please come to the altar rail at the end of Communion. The Communion Hymn will be sung during this time of prayer. Communion Hymn: Amazing Grace Amazing grace - how sweet the sound - that saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found, was blind, but now I see. Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved; how precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come: tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home. 10 When we ve been there ten thousand years bright shining as the sun, we ve no less days to sing God s praise than when we ve first begun. MP 31 John Newton 1725-1807 Public Domain Sentence: Of Jesus many said, What is this wisdom that has been given to him? What deeds of power are being done by his hands! Mark 6.2 Prayer after Communion Most loving God, you send us into the world you love. Give us grace to go thankfully and with courage in the power of your Spirit. Please stand as we sing the Thanksgiving Hymn Wide, Wide as the Ocean Wide, wide as the ocean, High as the heaven above; Deep, deep as the deepest sea Is my Saviour s love; I, though so unworthy, Still am a child of His care; For His word teaches me That His love reaches me ev rywhere. Deep, deep in the ocean, God has cast all of my sin; He cast them behind His back When Jesus came in; Christ went back to heaven, Mansions for me to prepare, I ll tell the story, give Jesus the glory Till I get there.
