Jesus, thou art all compassion, pure, unbounded love thou art; visit us with thy salvation, enter every trembling heart. (VERSE 2)

Breathe, O breathe thy loving Spirit into every troubled breast; let us all in thee inherit, let us find the promised rest. Take away the love of sinning, Alpha and Omega be; end of faith, as its beginning, set our hearts at liberty. (VERSE 3) Come, almighty to deliver, let us all thy life receive; suddenly return, and never, nevermore thy temples leave. Thee we would be always blessing, serve thee as thy hosts above, pray and praise thee without ceasing, glory in thy perfect love. (VERSE 4) Finish then thy new creation, pure and spotless let us be; let us see thy great salvation perfectly restored in thee: changed from glory into glory, till in heaven we take our place, till we cast our crowns before thee, lost in wonder, love, and praise. KNOWING YOU (VERSE 1) All I once held dear built my life upon All this world reveres and wars to own All I once thought gain I have counted loss Spent and worthless now compared to this CHORUS Knowing You Jesus knowing You There is no greater thing You're my all You're the best You're my joy my righteousness And I love You Lord

But we do have other gods that claim our adoration, our time, our energy, our resources, our hearts. Let us confess our idolatry, trusting in God s mercy to save. Prayer of Confession When we limp around altars we have made with anxious expectation of idols we adore, Lord, have mercy. When we whip ourselves with condemnation, sacrificing our very selves for that which cannot satisfy, Lord, bring healing. When we beg our idols to meet our deepest need and there is no voice, no answer, no response

Lord, save us! Amen. [Silent Confession] Declaration of Forgiveness The Lord Jesus Christ poured out his very self to set us free from the idols that enslave us! It is for freedom that Christ has set us free! Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (Hymn #479) O how he loves you and me, O how he loves you and me; he gave his life what more could he give? O how he loves you, O how he loves me, O how he loves you and me! SONG OF WORSHIP: PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE OFFERING OF OURSELVES & OUR GIFTS Rev. Don Meekhof Lois Robertson Invitation to the Offering Hear these words from Paul in his letter to the Romans: So here s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walkingaround life and place it before God as an offering. Offertory A Hiding Place Organ James Southbridge READING OF THE SCRIPTURES Psalm 96:1 9 (NIV) Mickie Moore 1 Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. 2 Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. 3 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. 4 For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. 5 For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the Lord made the heavens. 6 Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and glory are in his sanctuary. 7 Ascribe to the Lord, all you families of nations, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. 8 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering and come into his courts. 9 Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness; tremble before him, all the earth. 1 Kings 18:20 39 (NIV) Chuck Moore

20 So Ahab sent word throughout all Israel and assembled the prophets on Mount Carmel. 21 Elijah went before the people and said, How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him. But the people said nothing. 22 Then Elijah said to them, I am the only one of the Lord s prophets left, but Baal has four hundred and fifty prophets. 23 Get two bulls for us. Let Baal s prophets choose one for themselves, and let them cut it into pieces and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. I will prepare the other bull and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. 24 Then you call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the Lord. The god who answers by fire he is God. Then all the people said, What you say is good. 25 Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, Choose one of the bulls and prepare it first, since there are so many of you. Call on the name of your god, but do not light the fire. 26 So they took the bull given them and prepared it. Then they called on the name of Baal from morning till noon. Baal, answer us! they shouted. But there was no response; no one answered. And they danced around the altar they had made. 27 At noon Elijah began to taunt them. Shout louder! he said. Surely he is a god! Perhaps he is deep in thought, or busy, or traveling. Maybe he is sleeping and must be awakened. 28 So they shouted louder and slashed themselves with swords and spears, as was their custom, until their blood flowed. 29 Midday passed, and they continued their frantic prophesying until the time for the evening sacrifice. But there was no response, no one answered, no one paid attention. 30 Then Elijah said to all the people, Come here to me. They came to him, and he repaired the altar of the Lord, which had been torn down. 31 Elijah took twelve stones, one for each of the tribes descended from Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord had come, saying, Your name shall be Israel. 32 With the stones he built an altar in the name of the

Lord, and he dug a trench around it large enough to hold two seahs of seed. 33 He arranged the wood, cut the bull into pieces and laid it on the wood. Then he said to them, Fill four large jars with water and pour it on the offering and on the wood. 34 Do it again, he said, and they did it again. Do it a third time, he ordered, and they did it the third time. 35 The water ran down around the altar and even filled the trench. 36 At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed: Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. 37 Answer me, Lord, answer me, so these people will know that you, Lord, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again. 38 Then the fire of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench. 39 When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, The Lord he is God! The Lord he is God! MESSAGE Rev. Erika Haub Between Two Opinions *SONG OF WORSHIP: FAITH OF OUR FATHERS (Hymn #692) (VERSE 1) Faith of our fathers! living still in spite of dungeon, fire and sword: O how our hearts beat high with joy when e er we hear that glorious word! Faith of our fathers, holy faith! We will be true to thee till death! (VERSE 2) Faith of our fathers! we will strive

to win all nations unto thee, and through the truth that comes from God, we all shall then be truly free. Faith of our fathers, holy faith! We will be true to thee till death! (VERSE 3) Faith of our fathers! we will love both friend and foe in all our strife: and preach thee too, as love knows how, by kindly words and virtuous life: Faith of our fathers, holy faith! We will be true to thee till death! BENEDICTION Rev.
